Now that statement has been truer than most Eagle fans want to admit. :)

Go Generals..................... sounds like they might make some noise this season.

See you at the club!!

any comments on  E&H vs Averet(sp) scrimmage  ,,,

Emory "won" 17-0.  Going on second hand info.  D was great all day and may be returning to the prominence we used to enjoy defensively.  Our backs ran hard and got up field.  All comments seem positive.

Very, very early but that's encouraging.

Here is my first half analysis for the Guilford- Newport News Apprentice.
When both teams had the starters in Guilford was dominated on all three parts of the game.

The head coach was yelling at the offense because they were playing lazy. They didn't run their routes full speed and they seem scared running the ball.

One play a parent from Guilford's side started to cheer for the other team because he stretched out the Wide Receiver for guilford with a helmet to chin play.

First half score was 14-7 Newport News Apprentice ahead. The Newport News could have scored again because they ran a fake punt to the 9 yard line, but took a knee to run out clock with 19 seconds and a couple of timeouts left .

Volgenbach (Sorry if special is wrong) had a horrible first half he completed less than half of his passes.

Micah Rushing #17 didn't play until the last two drives of the half. And the QB threw to him evey play except for one. The one play, Volgenbach eyed him the whole time and 3 defenders was on him.

If Volgenbach does that during the season he will lead the league in INT's because he always look at Micah Rushing evey play.

He threw 1 INT and 1 TD during the first half.

Mr. Rushing is a dynamite receiver nad the first pass he caught, he went up for it for a 16 yard gain. The second pass he caught was a quick screen but was tackled behind the line.

Guilford RB #42 He is tall and runs high. He was chopped in half numerous times. His seems to be more of a powerback. His seem slow but had  power.

Guilford punter #39 booted a 50 yard punt (with the bounce a 70 yard punt for a touchback). The next punt he hit it off the side of his foot and almost hit me and my wife in the stands.

The defense was the most dissapointing today. The couldn't stop the running of #22 who had close to a 100 yds. rushing for the first half.  Newport News Apprentice QB #3 (Lefty) who shouldn't be playing D-3 football was throwing all over the defense.

The Guilford DB # 15 was easily beat deep.

The replaced him with #36 and the man answered wiht an interception.

Overall, the Guilford team was mentally, physically, and out coached at the game.

I was going to stay for the second half of the game but i had to take my wife to the Hampton mall.

Sorry for the errors in grammar and spelling.. i have to go to the movies in a couple of minutes

Get it together Guilford.. i had you picked second in the ODAC but you might be last with this performance I saw today.

I also liked Guilford's #40...good vocal leader on the field..

Perhaps you should have added the next line for context...

"The Bridgewater Eagles have become the Atlanta Braves of the ODAC: pick against them at your own peril.  Now while the Mets may have a sizable lead over the Braves now, it seems near impossible to count out the magic of Bobby Cox.  "

...actually the insinuation was a dig about the lack of postseason success by either team.

Remember the W&L Generals have two national championships under their belt!! :D :D :D :D

When?

I'm guessing 1873 and 1890, right?

enzoneking6 - Thanks for the update on the NNA/GC scrimmage.  What you wrote doesn't sound so good, but I appreciate your candor.  You're right, if Vogelbach is telegraphing his passes, it'll be a long season.  I only recognized two of the numbers you mentioned for the Quakers.  Number 36 is Joe Battaglia and #40 is Captain Mario Paylor.  Lots of newcomers this season (and a new Defensive Coordinator), so I'll have to wait until I see what numbers the new guys were assigned.  Sounds as though they have some work to do and we have a strong Ferrum team at home September 2nd.  I hope they can make some quick adjustments.

abnrgr

Paylor must be a 5th year senior by now.

Can we spell sophomoreitis? (somebody can) If Vogelbach has a case of this cancer GC-Q will be meat this year.

As with most years I and can bet (it has to be a guess)  this year it will be the same; the line on both sides that will be the weakness.

They usually have 2 good guys on both sides but you need 5 and 4 good ones. HSC and CU usually has a few hogs but GC-Q usually does not have the hogs. You got to have some mobile beef. This coupled with a bad soph year and uhhhhh
Never shall I leave a fallen comrade

I'd be proud, WLU...I mean, after all, once Lee realized he couldn't be president of the USA, he decided to be president of a college.  Now that's history on your side, right?   What a step down.

Man, don't be so down and out on Guilford so early! Its only a scrimmage. I remember a few years ago when McDaniel got waxed in a scrimmage I believe against Salisbury. Point being, one week later McDaniel beat BC in Westminster. I personally think that Guilford will open the newly renovated stadium with a win. ;D I guess I must be one of the few. :-\

I looked on the W&L football site but could find the mention of only one national championship: 1961 College Division title awarded by Washington Touchdown Club.  To my knowlege W&L has only been to the post season once losing to Wyoming in the 1951 Gator Bowl.  That leaves W&L with an 0-1 playoff record compared to the 10-6 playoff record owned by Bridgewater who remains to this day the only ODAC school to ever win a playoff game not to mention play for a national championship.

"...to this day the only ODAC school to ever win a playoff game..."

That is simply not true.

I agree Llama.  I was at the McD/Salisbury scrimmage in 04 (yes it was Salisbury) and the Green Terror looked absolutely horrible.  No push on the line and couldn't tackle.  I thought the Eagles would soar in an easy one....I guess that's why they play the game, huh?!!  Of course the Gulls went on the have a pretty good season too.
