Only problem I see is that Volgebach person  and his teammates.  He scared me to death last year and I am even more worried this year.  But that's why I'm on the sidelines and my guys play the game.  Can't wait to meet more DIII friends!!!

Hey, everybody.  These 'brownies" truly seem to be world-famous and legendary in ways that have reached mythical proportions!  I'm looking forward to my first (and second?) "brownie" as well.  In fact, I've notice a direct statistical correlation between the word "brownie" and positive karma, so I figure the more often I use the word "brownie" in this post, the better it'll be.  They do call them "brownie" points, you know!  lol  Thanks, Olinemom, for the "brownie" invitation.  I'm a bachelor, so I'm just glad I discovered the mixes for Ghirardelli Triple Chocolate "Brownies" at Costco.  Even I can't mess up those "brownies"!  lol  Trenches and I haven't met yet either, but I hope we can at Homecoming on September 30.  I'm absolutely certain there will be large crowd of folks from BC on October 14, so you better bring lots of "brownies."  I look forward to eating "brownies" and putting faces with the names, so to speak.  I really wish it wasn't fall break at Guilford, but that's the way the schedule goes, I guess.   It should save more "brownies" for the rest of us, though.  Stay cool at all times, eat lots of "brownies" and wear your shades day and night!  Peace

I'm searching for just the right word to also convey my congratulations - what about "ditto"?

Now I never said Dewey was a genious if you will go back and look at it. I said Monty was a defensive genious. I just stated that when Dewey was in control of the offense we were doing great things. I know that he had his favorites, but we were putting up lots of points on the scoreboard. I cant say anything about Dewey in the 90's, but I had no problems with him when I played. I just cant see why Monty changed a primarily passing offense with a QB with tremendous confidence to a running style offense. As you stated, the offensive line pass blocked well but struggled to run block. If it were me, I would pass the ball more which would open up the run and make the draw a great play when the opposing team pulled men out of the box to coverage. This would also open the screen out of the backfield. But, I am not the coach.

But yes, I know that Monty has the team stronger than ever. The Wasps will work harder than ever and it will eventually pay off. And, Marshall Doss is one heck of a player. He has the attitude to do whatever he wants to on that field, if he can stay on that field. This means staying healthy and out of trouble.

why change the pass happy offense under Lusk?
EHC's record under Lusk from 2001-2004  was HOW MANY GAMES UNDER .500? EHC won 11 ODAC titles with a 75/35 run to pass ratio in all but seasons under Gary Collier in the 80's and Shannon Johnson in 2000.

If you will look back, every team that won the ODAC since 1994 either had an 1000 yard rusher or lead the conference in total rushing. Emory rolled out JD Davis, Oliver Jordan, Andy Stanley, David Schammel, Ernest Cheatem, ect ect. Catholic's first year in the league was able to win the title largely thanks to the efforts of Anthony Notarfrascatero (I am probably brutalizing his name, but he was a hell of a power back), and Bridgewater has been dominant behind a terrific mixture of great running backs and passing. Every "pretender to the throne" since the mid 90's (Randolph Macon back in my day, HSC over the last couple years) has been a predominantly pass oriented offense that failed them at big moments. EHC revirted to the pass happy system because they quit recruiting quality offensive and defensive linemen and tailbacks (thank you President Morris for cutting financial aid) and the pass offense was the only way they were able to remain competitive, but it destroyed the core ethic of the team, and Coach Montgomery was left to pick up the pieces.  All the traditional D3 powers function with offenses where the run sets up the pass, even at schools with great passing traditions like Mount Union. If EHC wants to return to greatness, they may not need to line up in the I and run  35 times a game, but they need to be able to run the ball in key situations.  The offensive line currently being better at pass blocking is not a justification for being more dependant on the passing game. Coach Wellenhoffer's job is to make those guys better RUN and PASS blockers. I think Josh is a good guy, but I (and several other ex players in the endzone) were shocked by how poor the line exhibited basic fundamentals like a proper stance, coming off the ball low, and drive blocking.

There is a reason you hear the phrase "throw for show, run for dough."

I am not saying that when a good running back is there that we still need to pass so much. But in the last 5-6 years we havent had a good running back that could carry the ball 25-30 times a game. Yes i do believe that we need to be able to run the ball more. But, when you look back on the 2003 and 2004 seasons it wasnt the lack of offense that lost games, it was scoring 45 and allowing 55. I dont know much about seasons prior to 2002, but in 02 we had Shannon, a running QB, Dan Hammonds and Satterfield. Neither of the two running backs showed an ability to gain 3+ per carry, which is needed to have a succesful running game. But, in 2003 Todd Woods put unbelievable numbers up with Brennan Stewart and Jerad Jackson catching his passes. Both Stewart and Jackson are still there. So why wouldnt you play to your strengths in order to better your weakness. When a team is primarily a passing team defenses most of the time dont put as many in the box in order to cover the good receivers. Then you should run the ball when there is not so much pressure in the box. I am by no means saying that Emory should be a primarily passing team but when you are putting up offensive numbers and Monty's defense is playing so well it is hard to argue that things wouldnt be better with the offense of two years ago.

let me change the first sentence to "in the last 5 years we havent had the runningback"

I will say that Vogelbach and the other Quakers seem very poised and "in synch" the past 5-7 games.  It took a few games to get to that point last year, but most of the players on Offense have now played eleven games together.  Be very afraid ....  lol  Seriously, it should be a good (and high scoring) game!

I'm looking forward to the game, though plenty worried about your team!!!  But the positve karma, there's a time limit.  Like every 18 hours or so.  It could be longer.  I'm not sure.  But I like giving positive karma for positive and thoughtful comments and discussions.  And the Ghiradelli chocolate brownie mixes are great, and then with the additions, they become even better.  You'll see.  I wonder if GCOL is going to be able to come.  I'm pretty sure he graduated last year.  I'd like to meet him too as I enjoyed talking to him on web as well.  See you soon!  Good luck this weekend.

You need a bunch more Nolan Jeffries in many positions, but that isn't likely to happen.  He's off coaching football back home.  Now that was a football player and a nice, nice young man too.  Of course I think he's special because he's from my home town!!!

When you get to 200 posts, it'll be automatically available to you.  There will be an "applaud" icon and a "smite" icon on the left side.  As Olinemom mentioned earlier, you have to wait 18 hours between actions for the same person.  That way someone can't get mad and zap someone repeatedly.  It also means that someone can't prop up their friends every time they sign on.  I also found, in doing some reading about the site, that there is a lifetime limit of "applauds" and "smites" for each person.  I don't know how much that is, but someday you can try to reward or negate someone's karma and it'll say "sorry, no more."   Hope that helps!
