It would be nice if BC could have just half of this setup!  Cortland has a great stadium..  :o

Holy Crap! Now that's a sweet stadium. Can you imagine the recruiting ODAC schools could do with that football Cathedral.

When you get to 200 posts, it'll be automatically available to you.  There will be an "applaud" icon and a "smite" icon on the left side.  As Olinemom mentioned earlier, you have to wait 18 hours between actions for the same person.  That way someone can't get mad and zap someone repeatedly.  It also means that someone can't prop up their friends every time they sign on.  I also found, in doing some reading about the site, that there is a lifetime limit of "applauds" and "smites" for each person.  I don't know how much that is, but someday you can try to reward or negate someone's karma and it'll say "sorry, no more."   Hope that helps!

thanks hasa  :)

Yes, that is pretty nice.  Cortland is a state school with taxpayer funded resources.  It's hard to compete unless you're a private college with a really big endowment.

congrats to Rushing, Burt, and the BC OL on garnering team of the week recognition... ODAC making some noise nationally I LIKE IT!

speaking to Cortland's stadium: that's about 20 minutes from here. I've driven by it and yes it is definitely one of the nicer ones i've seen in D3. CNU's would be close, but not quite as nice.

Keep in mind fellas that most the schools in the ODAC (if not all) don't have the fan base to even have a stadium that large (5500 seats).

Jopson (BC's football stadium) is plenty big at 3000 seats.  We only averaged 2455 for home games last season, which included only 2400 fans for the first round playoff game last year vs W&J.

So as much as I'd love to have really nice facilities, and have 5000+ fans fill the stadium for a Saturday afternoon game in Bridgewater, Virginia, I also realize that the student population is only 1500 and a town population of around 5000 ... so we've pretty much maxed out on how big of a crowd (week to week) we can have.  If we had a 5000-seat stadium, it would be half full for every weekend but Homecoming.  That'd be silly.

Clearly Clark and Co. can recruit without having the best facilities.  The players don't mind playing on REAL grass - and I'd bet that most prefer it.  And as much as we fans gripe about the stands, press box, scoreboard, restrooms, etc., in the end we still have a place to sit (or stand), a place for media, a structure that shows the score, down, time, just fine, and a place to pee.

Sure, what Guilford has done with Armfield is nice, but from the looks of it, you won't be able to walk the fence (a Bridgewater fan favorite).

In the end, bettering the surroundings while we cheer, eat and pee won't change the performances on the field.

Yeah, I know what you mean.  kid, I read your post and I agree.  You don't need Cortland's stadium if you're a small private school.  Guilford has 2700 students, but 1300 are adults attending at night - most of those don't influence our attendance either.  Greensboro is a medium-size city, but it's not like we're the only show in town.  Here's what else I'd like to see at Guilford (and some of it is going to happen):  1) totally revamp the visitor side seating - scheduled for summer of 2007 2) get the stadium seating to around 3000 - after adding home seats in 2006 and with revamps to visitors' side in 2007, it'll be close - there is plenty of room to stand at big games such as Homecoming and the Soup Bowl 3) build a fieldhouse with a concession area!  As far as I know this is not planned, but there is plenty of room on the north end between the football field and the baseball field.  That way, baseball, football and both lacrosse teams could use the facilities.  If that ever happened, I think we'd be in great shape.  Not sure if any of you have ever been to a game at Davidson, but I think they have the perfect small college environment.  That's the roughly picture I see at Guilford if there was a fieldhouse on the north.

Dang kid, you sound like you work for BC or something. :P

Actually I agree in principal. But!

Concessions, Restrooms, and Press Box. They are the worts I've ever seen. A high school wouldn't get away with having the restrooms we have.

So when is the right time to upgrade? Is it going to take a few losing seasons? I hope not. Isn't having the worst facilities in the ODAC (South Region) enough?

I think GC used to have some of the worst facilities, but I'm personally glad we don't any more.  Yeah, I agree that good teams should be able to recruit without great facilities.  Good players want to play on winning teams.  With that said, however, Guilford brought  in 50 kids this year and I don't think I've ever seen that before.  In the long run, I think improved facilities will ultimately yield positive results on the field.  I certainly know it makes going to a game a lot nicer experience!  I also know from talking to people "in the know" at Guilford that new facilities and improved campus aesthetics have helped increase donations.  Once you get that ball rolling, I think it positively influences so many things.

I do know that an addition is planned...however I think it may only be something like a ticket area. Lord knows why they couldn't just do that when they did this last renovation.

In past years, I have heard talks about a medium size facility being put between the football and baseball fields. This would house a training room, locker rooms, and I believe a couple of class rooms. This also brought up the topic of putting concessions in that area.

Ideally, I'd like to see the building I spoke of placed there and then put concessions behind the stands in the area toward the scoreboard. I believe that would make for a perfect fit.
I have include two, highly sophisticated, architectural renderings to help you visualize.  ;)

$$$$$$  I think they needed to raise more money to do more than they did in 2006.  Look for a better ticketing area in 2007.

The location you did on the map is exactly where I visualize a fieldhouse.

They're more sophisticated than what I could do.  lol  Thanks

Ok, so yes I work for Bridgewater ... but I've always felt that our facilities and size match what and who we are.  Blue collar baby!  When Hug needs to pee ... would peeing in a brand-new bathroom facility with three stalls, five urinals and five sinks make your experience any better than the porta-john(s) we have?! :) ... I do believe your pee would still come out just fine ... and your experience no different.

And you make it sound so simple.  You make it sound like President Stone and the athletic department are turning away opportunities to expand and better the football facilities.  Shoot, if a major company (Verizon, Coke, etc.) came along and offered, I'm sure they wouldn't say no.  And how about a Hug, Llamaguy or skoaltrain give about half a mil for these upgrades?  It takes money my friend ... and it's just not there at the moment.

And geez, don't make BC sound SO bad.  I peed in a porta-john at Hampden-Sydney ... a press box at W&L is non-existent (I think the radio guys sit OUTSIDE) ... and the visitors stands at E&H are, well, not that impressive (do they cart that thing in from the soccer field or something?!).

So this whole "we have the worst facilities in the conference/south region" is a bunch of bull and you know it.

Keep this in mind, too ... Llama and I were up in Shenandoah's nice press box talking with their SID last Thursday, and we were going off on how nice their new stadium/locker rooms/restrooms were ... how jealous we were, blah blah.  The SID said back "well, we'd also like to have the conference championships you have."  Keep that in mind as you pout about what we are lacking.

Uh, I'm not so sure.  I've had the hunch that BC has had grumblings to upgrade their basketball facilities.  So rather than choosing which sport to spend money on, the've decided not spend it at either place.

Here is what I propose:
1) Grade in the back of the bleachers to the road.
2) Add a 12 row section to the top of the bleachers with the middle section being chair-backs for eagle club members
3) Concession area added to the back of the stands with Press box on top, and small Womens and Mens restrooms on both sides of the concession area.

Whole thing should cost about $300 bucks.

Hug

I think I'm going to post the naming rights to my new BC facility on Ebay.  Starting bid $300.
