You all make it sound so easy...

"Just build this, add to that, install this ... bam boom bing."

Again; $.
No, it is not easy.  If it was, Guilford should have done it 20 years ago.  I have repeatedly talked about the financial commitment.  It was just Guilford's time to say this is what we need to do now and take the monetary plunge.   I realize you are fervently trying to defend your point and I respect that.  Colleges have many needs and there are a lot of hands trying to reach in the limited collective coffers.  It's up to the trustees and college administrators to discern where the priorities lie.  Personally, I would rather spend an extra dollar on the library or a chemistry lab than the football stadium, but sometimes it's difficult to separate the interaction between these two seemingly opposite needs.  It's not a secret that athletic success and pride in one's alma mater can translate into increased alumni and corporate giving, which, in turn, can be used to fund academic resources.  This same athletic success, in my opinion, is influenced by money spent on athletic facilites.  Is it a vicious circle?  Sure, but it's the only track on which we can run.

About because of that we will have a refurbished dining hall, Eagles Nest and various other fixer-uppers that have been needed around campus.

Have to take of the needs before the wants.

let me change the first sentence to "in the last 5 years we havent had the runningback"

You need a bunch more Nolan Jeffries in many positions, but that isn't likely to happen.  He's off coaching football back home.  Now that was a football player and a nice, nice young man too.  Of course I think he's special because he's from my home town!!!

I had the privilege of playing with Nolan for two years. Class guy. Where is he coaching at now?

I don't need them, and I doubt anyone who donated, need those upgrades either. But I need better and more restrooms at the football field.

I imagine you could make a donation that could only be used by a certain department if you wanted to.

But the Student-Athletes who put the W's in the win the book do.  So if you enjoy attending football games where your team wins, then yes you do need an improved dinning hall and Egales Nest because the students who bring you your sucessful football team need them.

You got it.. more often than not by the time practice ends the dinning hall is closed or close to be done for the night.. the Eagles Nest does need improving and I'm glad they're throwing some money at it.

Ollinemom,

Not sure if you saw my reply to you on the ASC board so I will put it here too!

Can't make it, dadgum it.   :(   I am still responsible for running the high school stadiums in my school district on Friday nights.  However, I am going to watch my Roos take on Ralph's McMurry team on Saturday.  Thanks for thinking about me and maybe we can meet again later on !    ;)
Anything that you ardently desire, vividly imagine, totally believe and enthusiastically pursue will inevitably come to pass !!!

What's your plan when you don't make the playoffs?  I think they'd make lovely over-sized planters.  lol  You have to love your enthusiasm and God only knows you have some recent past history to back it up, but the rest of us aren't ready to concede the 2006 Championship just yet.  What do you say we play a few ODAC games first?  :)  Peace

I'm looking forward to the game, though plenty worried about your team!!!  But the positve karma, there's a time limit.  Like every 18 hours or so.  It could be longer.  I'm not sure.  But I like giving positive karma for positive and thoughtful comments and discussions.  And the Ghiradelli chocolate brownie mixes are great, and then with the additions, they become even better.  You'll see.  I wonder if GCOL is going to be able to come.  I'm pretty sure he graduated last year.  I'd like to meet him too as I enjoyed talking to him on web as well.  See you soon!  Good luck this weekend.

I saw GCOL at the last game. So I'm sure he'll be at the homecoming game too.

;D ;D BROWNIES!! BROWNIES!! BROWNIES!!!!! ;D ;D

Also, how does the karma thing work? Do I not have enough posts yet or something? I'd love to send out karma but I'm not sure how to do it!! any help??
I think you need around 200 posts but not exactly sure.  But I remember it was hard waiting to be able to do it.   :)
Brownies for Film Day--Now there's a Slogan I can live with!!!:)  Go EAGLES!

Come on ... you know as well as we (BC fans) do that Guilford will go 10-0 this year.

How can you lose when you have such a stud at QB, depth at wide receiver and a solid offensive line?  I don't think I've ever heard of a team with that kind of fire power on offense, not be able to win the big ones during the regular season and have the opportunity to prove themselves in the playoffs.

Oh wait, Hampden-Sydney the last three years. :o

Show you can run the ball (3.4 yards a carry isn't going to do it) and play some defense (giving up 333 rushing yards a game isn't going to do it) and then you won't have to rely on Vogelbach each and every game.  Yes, he had a stellar game against Ferrum (who was ranked 112th in the nation last year against the pass) ... but can he do that nine more times?  Ehh...

Having said that, can Guilford and Washington & Lee beat Bridgewater this year?  Absolutely.  I'd be disappointed, but not shocked.  During our 35-game ODAC win streak, we've come very close to losing ... so one will eventually go the other way.
