Could any of you old ladies point me in the way of a football discussion?

We've started off the year with a non-conference bang (last year we were a dismal 12-15).

Last week, the ODAC went...

4-2 overall
2-0 vs the USAC
1-0 vs the CC
1-0 vs the NCAC
0-1 vs the OAC
0-1 vs the SCAC

This week we have the following games...

Bridgewater vs Shenandoah (USAC)
Hampden-Sydney at Gettysburg (CC)
Washington & Lee at Frankling & Marshall (CC)
Randolph-Macon vs Johns Hopkins (CC)
Guilford at Methodist (USAC)
Catholic vs Ohio Wesleyan (NCAC)

I think our chances are good against SU, GC and F&M ... but JHU, MC and OWU will give us some trouble.

Thoughts?

Kid, Llama, Skoal, Hug,

Mind if I stop by Stone Station on Saturday? You can meet my main squeeze (who is also a BC fan!)  I'm VERY excited for the first home game of the season..woo hoo! I thought I wasn't going to make it because everyone I know seems to be getting married during football season...the nerve! See you fellers soon!  :-*

Ask and thou shall receive!

I think its a positive sign for the conference that its teams did so well in the first week. Looking ahead too, I think they can keep the out of conference winning percentage over .500.

Of the teams on this week's schedule, Hopkins and Hampden Sydney are the two that stand out the most. Both were expected to be winning teams based off of their recent success, but both lost to mediocre teams. Each team now has a game against another middle of the road opponent as well. I feel better with HSC's chances since they did put up some points last week, and Gettysburg lost a low scoring game. Hopkins has primarily won with defense lately, and they might easily control Randy Mac, who still seems to be rotating players in at QB from other positions. Maybe Coach Arruza has things figured out with his offense now, but I'm not sold. This wouldn't be a game that I would want to lay money down on.

Ohio Wesleyan is an unknown to me, so who knows what will happen at Catholic on Saturday.  I feel confident with BC and GC, and it will be interesting to see how well the Generals do in their season debut.

Have any ODAC teams played Franklin and Marshall in the last couple of years? W and L hasn't played them in recent history and I have really no idea what to expect?

Apparently, in a great show of sportmanship, the F and M coaches decided it would be unwise to send the Generals any film. Probably a smart move on their part, but the boys are now even more fired up in Lexington, ready to take out 3 weeks of camp frustration on somebody with a different color jersey.

Good analysis.  I'm not sold on R-M's offense either.  While I'm grateful for the win over Denison, the RT-D account of the game had one guy doing everything on offense.  I was somewhat horrified. . . . :o

I picked Macon because I love my school.  But to be objective, I wouldn't put money on this game either.  It's just too early in the season to tell what R-M will do.

F&M's on its third coach in four seasons. Not sure we know what to expect of them.

Haha, now we just need a Sydney fan and an Emory fan to post today, and that would be at least one fan from each team to post on here in one day!  Has to be a first.  C'mon Tigers and Wasps ... post something ... anything!

Anywho, I'm sure you also saw that the new SID at Catholic (Barbara Jones) posted a 10-page game notes for the CUA-OWU game this weekend!  Haven't read over them yet, but I'm off to lunch now and have printed it off to take with me.

Yikes, that's not cool about the game film.  That has to break some NCAA (or at least ODAC/CC) rule.

As far as who F&M has played in the ODAC in previous years, Catholic used to play them every year up until 2003.  Other than that, no one has played them.

The 2006 Kickoff has some good insight on what the Dips have. :)

I hope the Generals have a breakout game against them like BC did against McDaniel.

I hope W&L didn't send a tape!  If I remember while I was at BC a team refused to send us a game tape and when they did it was from several weeks before.   I'm hoping both BC and W&L go into their matchup undefeated.  I'm just glad the game is AT BC this year.. Lexington scares me!  ;D

The karma is not the thing.   In my opinion, a minority of readers may have simply misinterpreted what's posted.  All I'm asking is for folks to try and see the different sides of a discussion.  It's a common case of hermeneutics (yes, it was named after Hermes).  Imagine a single controversial football play seen by two different fans sitting side-by-side, especially fans of opposing schools.  They both know the rules, they are both honest and they are both paying close attention to the game.  Then ask them to describe what just occurred.  Not surprisingly, you will often get two diametrically opposed descriptions of what happened only moments earlier.  They both saw the same play and from the same angle, but their interpretations can be drastically different.   Both sincerely think they are correct and cannot understand why or how the other fan could see it differently than they do.  With this in mind, if I offended anyone, I'm sincerely sorry and I apologize.  I'll be back ... eventually.  Even I know this board is probably better with me than without me.  lol  For starters, some of you can be a better speller if you'll just follow my lead.  (this is a joke for those that may misinterpret)  That's an arena in which I did literally make the playoffs.  :)  Peace.

The film exchange deal is only an issue if W&L sent tape under the assumption that they were getting something back, and F&M sent nothing. Some coaches don't feel like you can get a lot of information by looking at last year's tapes or scrimmages, so they might just forego the exchange early in the season.
There are no rules regarding whether or not you have to exchange, but its an unwritten rule as far as I know that you give only what you get.

I'm not quite sure why you are apologizing?  I didn't even know you "did anything."

Anywho, hopefully the poll question on most impressive statistic has helped your opinion of their unbiased nature.  Two BC players listed, two votes between them.  Shoot, I was only one of two that voted for the H-SC QB.  A freshman going 22-for-30, 4 TDs, and no INTs is most impressive.  He did his part ... where was the Tiger defense?
