I'd be interested in hearing about the R-M game from a poster that attended.  The RT-D article indicated that it was a close game which R-M led for most of the time.  The article cited "anemic offense" as the reason why we couldn't close the door on Johnny Hop.

Any takers? ::)

Evidently not. :P

My need for information has been rejected. :-[

Also pretty lame when ya gotta quote yourself. ;) ;D

Heated convo on the AU-GC game. Let's sum it up real quick and be done till Saturday afternoon.
Season Thus far:
Averett: AU has started 0-2 vs. 2 very tough opponents. Mt. Union blew them out and WU dropped 'em by 21 (if i remember correctly). The secondary got worked through those to games. No reason to drop the head but questions still need to be answered.
Guilford: Started 2-0 against 2 quality teams (co-champs of the USAC). These teams lost their key playmakers but still have plenty of talent and theres no way you can take from the start GC has had. But each week will get more intense for them. This week will be no different.

The Matchup:
GC heads into AU with AU steaming after two big losses. Some teams would fold after that but I see AU coming out strong. And I do see this being a dog fight between two teams who are toward the top of their conference.

Prediction:
In the end I see GC being GC; they will continue to wear down the secondary...Vogelbach's streak of 300 yard games will continue. And the D will do what it needs to.
Guilford 38 Averett 28

Well, I noticed you didn't get any responses, but the words "poster who attended" ruled me out.  :)  Once you get into the ODAC schedule, I think you'll get some comments.   To be honest, the Centennial posters have been pretty quiet this year.  In the future, why don't you just throw in something inflammatory such as "xxx College's mama wears Army boots" or something kind such as "I love brownies"?  Then, you'll get a response!  The reply may have absolutely nothing to do with what you originally asked about, but you WILL get a response.   Just a tip for you in later posts.   ;)

One thing that is going to factor into the Guilfrod-Averett game is that Guilford hasn't faced a team yet that has a real passing attack. We all know that Ferrum is a run-the-ball-down-your-throat kind of team, and the team has even acknowleded that they don't have any go-to guys among the receiving corps. I appreciate the mention that Ferrum is defending co-champs of the USAC, but they aren't nearly the team they were last year.

As for Methodist, they are weak at quarterback -- and that certainly shown through with the measley 112 yards passing against Guilford. The air game is hurting without Roncketti. Still, Guilford stuck it to the Monarchs better than I expected they would.

Averett, however, has lots of potential to bring a tough passing game. AU threw for over 100 yards more than Wesley did (266 vs. 153 yards) and even had more total offense. Turnovers killed them, and turnovers could very well kill them on Saturday. There's no denying that.

I think Guilford will be a tough game -- I said that in an earlier post. But Guilford isn't the same caliber as Mount or Wesley (few teams are), so I hope that gives Averett an edge heading into the weekend. And I hope no one (read: Averett) takes Guilford for granted anymore.

2.7 seconds. An average football player may need more time to score; a great one finds a way. I've seen greatness happen.

I do not follow either of these two teams, ( as I only follow conference champions) but I would think that Guilford is prepared against the pass, as they do practice against their offense.  So what, Guilford hasn't played against a real passing attack, they practice against one every day. Which one do you think would better prepare you for a passing team, playing against one or practicing against one? Just my thoughts.

Agreed, they haven't seen a potent passing attack. But to their credit they did well to stop what they have seen. They have seen 85 rush attempts, but against the pass they are 14-33, 168 yds, 1 td, 3 ints through 2 games.

That goes for GC too... Do not take AU lightly. They always bring their game.

I can't due to work. I will likely do some online updating again. But I believe Hasa said he was going.

True. I'm sure this will go a long way in helping out. Like you said, it helps to have that attack on your own team when you haven't seen that caliber in a game thus far.

I'm 99% sure I'll be there.  It's only about 50 miles or so one way for me.

I will say I'm impressed so far with Coach Vite, the new Defensive Coordinator, who just joined Guilford in June (I think).  I could tell he made some adjustments for the Methodist game after the Quakers gave up 35 versus Ferrum.  As I mentioned before, I think the Defensive effort versus FC was about 21 because two of their scores came on a very short field after turnovers.  I know all the scores count in who wins or loses, but the GC effort and execution was better than the final score would indicate.  AU does have a lot of good players, including an experienced QB, so I can tell you without a doubt the Quaker players and coaches know they need to bring their best effort to Danville on Saturday.  Let's tee it up and see what happens!

Thanks, Hasanova!!  Good advice!  May have to resort to it if my requests continue to go unheeded.

Was doing my mid-week disection of Bridgewater's opponent, and ran across something interesting.

Back in May, the Daily News-Record reported that Harrisonburg High School's Andy Owah (who rushed for 1.374 yards, 17 TDs his senior year) picked Ferrum over Bridgewater, Averett, Emory & Henry and Shenandoah.

Well I can't find him on any of those rosters.  Anyone know where he went?

Quote from: religion_major on September 12, 2006, 04:17:15 PMThe Bridgewater folks would understand your non-violent methods.  The Brethren at Bridgewater have perfected the art of talking everyone to death. ;)  Of course there's plenty of free trade coffee to go around.  After we stuff them full of food at the potluck dinner, we bring them back for more talking.  I believe this would be the more vociferous manifestation of the Quaker experiance. ;D
Hey, speaking of talking, well-said.  I have a black brimmed hat I no longer need (crimson doo rag, remember?).  Want to borrow it?  lol  By the way, Quakers believe in decision-making by consensus, not majority votes.  Talk about, well, talking!  Get 20 or 30 Quakers together and try to decide how to allocate the budget or even what to have for lunch!  If a few die from hunger, then it starts going a little faster.

Sure, I'll borrow the black brimed hat. :D  See the Brethren make sure nobody starves because we eat before we start talking.  That's why all of the decisions are so well influenced by the "weighty brethren." ;D

EHCPride

Can EHC win this weekend, or will they win this weekend?  Which question is more appropriate?  Certainly we saw in the opening game that this team is greatly improved from last year, but they need to cut down on the mental mistakes (i.e. two fumbles in scoring range, blocked punt that lead to a TD).  The secondary and the Oline are still the biggest concerns for the Wasps, but hopefully Monty will get the kinks worked out for this weekend.  And much like Averett v. Guilford, while NCWC isn't Marietta, they certainly aren't a team to take for granted.
