Any thoughts on LaGrange?  I looked over the stats on bridgewaterfooball.com and the records of their opponents here on D3  and I'm not sure how they stack up as a first year team.

A few telling numbers (thanks to bridgewaterfootball.com)
2.3 Points PG
84.3 Total Yards PG
46.0 Opp. Points PG
435.3 Opp. Total Yards PG

The best one is being 1-for-37 on third down conversions. :o

Quote from: wrighthall220 on September 18, 2006, 11:03:17 AMA few questions I have..

Does BC's D pitch another shut out?  Even with the potential for 2nd and 3rd teams playing?

Can BC's D keep LaGrange under 50 yards?

Will BC's O finally have a HUGE game and hit the 600 yard mark again?

Or will LaGrange come out with nothing to lose and make a run at BC?

Any thoughts?

The shutout is possible, yes.  But the other things I actually hope don't happen.

I want to see a lot of young kids in the 3rd and 4th quarter, which means we'll probably not score a whole lot and we will more than likely give up a few yards.  I know Clark and Co. want to keep the 1s and 2s in game shape for Homecoming (vs. H-SC on Sept. 30), so we might see them no matter what into the 3rd quarter.

I'm egger to see some freshmen OLs, RBs, WRs and DBs that haven't seen the field yet.

Good points.. but if the 2nd, 3rds and even 4ths are as strong as they have been in the past 600 yards added on to whatever the 1st string pulls off may be possible!  The 2nd and 3rd string teams have put up a few points in the past..  ;)

The 1-37 on 3rd down is insane.. as is the 2.5 punt return yards.. how many times have teams punted to them?

I'm excited about this game and I hope LaGrange stays on the schedule next year and that it's in GA!  It's hard to get to a BC game now that I'm in ATL.  :D   I'm excited for all the young guys and for all the guys that aren't so young but have put  a few years being a 3rd/4th stringers... always a fun week when there's the potential to see some game time!  ;D

What would this guys stats look like if BC ran the ball 70 times a game?!?!
Marcus Washington    Years 02-05     Points 268

:o

Haha ... well, let's see :)

Vogs will definitely shatter the NCAA record for attempts for a career if he keeps his freshman season pace up.  So let's say Washington had enough carries per game to break the NCAA record for rushing attempts in a career.

That means he would get about 43 carries a game.  For his career, he averaged 6.6 yards a carry ... but since he's carrying the ball more now, let's be realistic and lower his average to 5.0 yards a carry.  So in 46 career games, he'll carry and ball 1,978 times and ... *drum roll*

... he would have 9,890 career rushing yards.  Thus shattering the NCAA record (which is 7,353).  Shocker. ::)

Of course there will be those that argue "Well, could Washington carry it 43 times a game?  Could he gain 5.0 yards a carry?" ... valid questions.  Since Bridgewater has had tailback-by-committee, we'll never know.  I'll take the five rings instead.

So are you saying that even as great as Ricca was at HSC and how absurd his numbers were/are he's already been replaced/forgotten by a new arm... and 6 rings will always be remembered... interesting!  8)  I agree 110%  :)

Those are some scary numbers for Marcus by the way.. I'm going to go out on a limb and say the guy could carry the ball 50 times a game because he was A) That good and B) in great shape.

A couple of notes about GC's 70 pass attempts versus AU.   First, that isn't even the GC record - the Quakers attempted 75 passes against CUA last November!  Second, what an imbalance of run and pass.  There were only 11 rushing  attempts for 29 net yards.  Truthfully, about half of those were scrambles by Vogelbach on plays he intended to pass!  lol  To say we need some semblance of a rushing game, even 75-80 ypg, is an understatement.  Third, I realize a running back with 70 attempts per game could put up some awesome numbers, but I think that's just almost physically impossible.  A Running Back takes a lot more punishment on a run than a QB does on a pass attempt (sacks and late hits being the exception).  A Running Back is going to get hit on almost every play and I think 40-45 attempts is about the practical limit for most guys.  I wish GC had a 3:1 ratio instead of 10:1, but I guess the coaches are going with what they think works and gives them the best chance to win.  Until the Quakers find a running game, I see much more of the same.

It's too bad we've had a great team the last six years. :-\

Joking aside, like I've said before, our ODAC run can't last forever.  I still think W&L has the best shot at beating us because they've kept it close lately because of their team, not any particular player or players.

The key for Bridgewater against Guilford this year will be to jump on them early like they did last year.  We went up 28-0 in the game's first 17 minutes, and scored the first two times in the 2nd half to make it 48-12.  And Quaker fans can't say it was turnovers that hurt GC ... Vogelbach threw only one INT all game, and the team never fumbled.

If we let Guilford get a lead - it'll be lights out and hasanova and Trenches will see their post totals rise like a moe foe on here. :)

I'll be catching my first ODAC game of the season at Newport News watching the younger but bigger Lehto get some time at full back against emory and henry.  Good Luck to BC This weekend

Uncle Jessie

Here are two nice articles about the SU Hornets. I know some of you are fans of SU so you might like to read them. One is about the recent win the Hornets had up in Waynesburg. By the way if anyone gets a chance to go see a game in Waynesburg, GO!. Its a beautiful stadium. The other article is about how football has impacted SU the last 6 years after adding the program.
Two questions for anyone; Waynesburg had instaled that new style turf. Im sure its the same that Catholic put it. It looks fantastic. Are any other ODAC schools planning on instaling it any time soon? The other question relates to the article about football and SU. It cost $26,000 a year to go to school at SU. Considering the Hornets and Bridgewater are compeating for many of the same players for we are so close to each other how much is it for Bridgewater a year?

GO HORNETS!!!

Uncle Jessie, Guilford is installing field turf next summer for the 2007 season.  As I understand the Phase II stadium renovation plan, there will also be revamped visitor seating, lights to allow night games and a larger, improved ticketing area.  Phase I this year was a new press box/restrooms, 176 new seats with backs, revamped existing home stands, a new scoreboard and a new exterior wall/concourse with landscaping.  So far, looks real good.

Jessie,

Turf would be cool addition to Jopson Field (BC)  however, we have the potential of a natural disaster ruining an artificial surface.   A few hundred yards from the football field is a river that has at times of heavy rain flooded to the point where the field has been underwater.    I'm sure some of the older BC folks can explain the past floodings but unless BC were to do a great deal of ground work to prevent flooding I can't see turf being added.

Should I answer and show my age?  Oh well, too late now!!  How about the field being covered by so much water that it was lapping at the buildings, Flory, Memorial and Yount.  We had propane tanks kissing each other in the turbulence and students jumping in the filth thinking it was cool--hey it had overrun the water treatment plant, among other things.  But I do like the field turf . . .

I love the smell of grass when it is fresh and green but i like being able to play in the rain without tearing up the turf. I noted with interest that the BC JV game was called a few weeks ago because of field damage to the new bermuda.

Meanwhile, at EMU (where I work) we were getting requests from area schools to use our new A-turf  (similar to Field Turf) field. It costs more up front, and it isn't as pleasant on hot days, but you can handle the activity that would take 5-10 grass fields, and in any kind of weather. When you consider the minimal maintenance and operational cost, no mowing, no water, no fertilizer, no striping, over the life of the turf it evens out. If land is in short supply and very expensive, turf is very cost effective. Here's a story on the dedication.

my older brother and I were hoping biggums would get back into the game because that boy is a monster.  i just wish they would give him the ball and let him do something with it.  He has a lot of time though being this is his freshman year.  He toted a retired 215 pound receiver around many times.  Whats up with you outsider?
