So, Nick, who is your brother playing for?  I'm curious.  Great to see you back on the board!!!  Are you coming up for Homecoming?

Hello Olinemom
My younger brother plays for Newport News Apprentice.  He is in school to become an electrician.  He made a visit to Bridgewater and was looking to become a tight end here but decided to put football on hold for a little while.  Definitely looking forward to homecoming, i have antony hunt living around here with me now so we are hoping to make an appearance at the stone station.  That atmosphere doesn't get any better.  Hope all is well

skoaltrain

This type of tailgate you can't plan in three days before it happens.  Many days and hours and money goes into the preparation way ahead of time.  Llamaguy and The Doff are involved and according to the menu and events planned, it should be the best EVER!

Low and Behold, we have a great menu coming up for all attendee's.  Pork BBQ from SkoalTrain himself.  We will have a run or two of Chicken Quarters from Llamaguy and The Doff himself.  Expecting 200+ so please be patient while we serve.  Great day of weather on hand as well as some great D3 Fellowship.  Bridgewater College can compete on the D1 Level.  Tailgating that is.....

Skoaltrain Rolling ETA: High Noon on 9/29/06.  That's 25 hours before kickoff.  Who's with me? Llamaguy, I know you are there....

P.S. It's pretty quiet today?  Is that a good thing?  I hope everyone is planning on Homecoming.  Focused efforts.....

Bonus Obscure College Score: Ursinus 6, LaSalle 2. The Explorers' faithful lament -- if only we'd gotten three more safeties! Located in Philadelphia, LaSalle University has a faculty member who is an expert on Robin Hood.

Bonus Combined Obscure Scores: Saint Francis of Indiana and Saint John's of Minnesota beat Pikeville and Augsburg by a combined 123-0. Running up the score is not saintly behavior!

Running Up the Score Watch: TCU held the boastful Texas Tech to a field goal in a 12-3 victory. Two years ago, Texas Tech relentlessly ran up the score on the Horned Frogs, notching 70 points; TCU had been smarting for vengeance, and by the hammer of Grabthar, they were avenged! Meanwhile Mount Union College -- year-in, year-out home of the worst sportsmanship in Division III -- relentlessly ran up the score on Otterbein, winning 71-14.

National Champions - 13: 1993, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2012, 2015, 2017

I can only relate to the 66-0 drubbing that the Eagles took in 2003.  A few thoughts.....
1) A few classless fans heckled the BC crowd the entire fourth quarter, in front of security and the MU pressbox. Absolutely could have been stopped but wasn't.
2) MU starters were left in the game way too long, in my opinion. I kept thinking to myself, if your stud left tackle goes down with a MCL when the score is 48-0, then it would serve you right.
3) Kicking field goals on second down is crap.  I know playoff rosters are limited, but put your worst team on the field, run it up the gut 4 times, if you score, you score.

I had no problem with what MUC did with the BC game in 2003.  I wasn't there to deal with the fans but I know in 2001 at the Stagg Bowl the MUC fans ran their mouths until we scored on the very first play and then they were great!  :)   Now, having been a coach on a totally different level.. coaching 8-10 year olds I know that it can be really hard to coach a game when your team catches fire and can't be stopped.  Without the ability to punt I had to keep switching players into their "dream" position... I had to stick OT at RB just to waste downs.. it's a no win situation..

Hug, your beloved BC Head coach has done the same thing so it is just a part of the game or let me guess it is ok when BC does it because they very good reason.
I remember a few years back (2001) BC was beating CUA really bad and fake a punt , ran a reverse, and a few playaction passes deep in the second half. By the way BC had already clinched a playoff berth and it was the last game of the season.

My take is that the BC coaches wanted that stuff to be on film so our second round opponent had to plan for it.

Running punt returns out of bounds with no one in sight and kicking field goals on second down is just wrong.  I'd rather them play until the end.  Had it been 103-0, so be it.

I can totally agree with this now as a coach because you constantly want your players to be learning and getting better. But as a player it is no fun and at times it makes you think about giving up. You never want to but you just happen to because you don't think there is anyway to stop them. I have also seen this happen many times and that also makes the blowout even worse.

I also don't think that in the playoffs you can complain about anything with score because all rules have been thrown out in the playoffs. The teams are trying to win at all cost and try to intimidate your next oponent

The high school that I am coaching at now has been getting beaten pretty badly recently and we are looking for them to get better throughout the game so we want them to keep playing with no running clock or anything like that. But sometimes it gets rediculous when a school is still throwing the ball while they are up by 45 or more.

I think this also had something to do with the cheap shots CU gave BC the year before.  But Kid is correct. Its mostly to get things on film to have other teams prepare.

I too had a problem with MUC kicking field goals on 2nd down. Think that is more of an insult then running the score up. But you can't really complain if you can't stop the other team.

I'm sure that if MUC (or any other school up big) keeps running and scoring touchdowns that there would be many on here bashing that as well.  I think it is a no win situation.

BC faithful should not be talking about cheap shots. As a former player I got plenty of (and saw many other)cheap shots from the BC players. I am sure every team has their few players that are cheap shot artist so please don't make that the reason for the coaches calling for a fake punt and reverse. I can understand the player wanting to do "damage".

Sometimes revenge is a motivating factor.  If memory serves me correctly, the most lobsided score in college football history was the 222-0 pounding put on Cumberland (TN) by Georgia Tech in 1916.  Tech coach John Heisman (yes, that Heisman!) was still mad because of the beating Cumberland put on his baseball team the previous spring (he accused Cumberland of using some professional players under false names).  Just found a couple of links if you want to read it:
