gone,

I was not happy when the reverse and fake punt was called. I did not think that was the right thing to do.

I remember a few years back (2001) BC was beating CUA really bad and fake a punt , ran a reverse, and a few playaction passes deep in the second half. By the way BC had already clinched a playoff berth and it was the last game of the season.

My take is that the BC coaches wanted that stuff to be on film so our second round opponent had to plan for it.

Running punt returns out of bounds with no one in sight and kicking field goals on second down is just wrong.  I'd rather them play until the end.  Had it been 103-0, so be it.

I think this also had something to do with the cheap shots CU gave BC the year before.  But Kid is correct. Its mostly to get things on film to have other teams prepare.

I too had a problem with MUC kicking field goals on 2nd down. Think that is more of an insult then running the score up. But you can't really complain if you can't stop the other team.

BC faithful should not be talking about cheap shots. As a former player I got plenty of (and saw many other)cheap shots from the BC players. I am sure every team has their few players that are cheap shot artist so please don't make that the reason for the coaches calling for a fake punt and reverse. I can understand the player wanting to do "damage".

Ok but on the other hand all you had to do was stop the fake punt, stop the reverse.. I'll agree with you in regard to the cheap shots.. there's a few every game and there's not much you can do about it because it may not be RIGHT but it's a part of all sports.

Agreed, If you score 100 points with your 2nd and 3rd stringers in the game then shame on your opponent but to try and "trick" a team when you are up big is (dare I say it about the great Mike Clark) classless

I'm sure that if MUC (or any other school up big) keeps running and scoring touchdowns that there would be many on here bashing that as well.  I think it is a no win situation.

True. :)  I suppose I wish we would have given them a game, ugh.

In 2001 the 1st and 2nd string players alternated series.. the QB stayed in but the skill players and O-line rotated.   But you have to also remember that the game was far from over in the 3rd qtr.    The score was only 42-0 which is far from a safe score considering the score in 2000 was 46-33 in favor of BC.  Coach Clark put the nail in the coffin and started the 2nd half with the 2nd string players and by the end of the 3rd qtr the 3rds were playing.    I'm not trying to justify anything that the coaching staff did or should have done but I'm guessing that the hard feelings on the part of the CUA fans and players comes from the fact that you all were used to winning.  All you have to do is look at the scores CUA put up in 2000 and 1999 to see they shouldn't be throwing stones at BC.   40+ games happen a lot and when teams are used to winning it stings more.  The day will come when a team gets a jump on BC and they'll score as many points as they can... does it make it right? I'm not sure but I wouldn't be a sore loser over a 55-13 game when you've put other teams on the other end of that score in the past.

The 2001 CUA-BC game you speak of...

The fake punt was attempted during the midway point of the second quarter.  Sure we were up 35-0 at that point, but shame on you all for letting us score on five of our first six possessions.  Oddly enough, the next play Jason Lutz was intercepted.

The reserve was run on the second play of the third quarter.  You tackled our wide receiver for a loss of three yards.

The play action passes in the second half were to get our backup quarterbacks ready for the playoffs (if we needed to use them).

Our 2nd string QB played the entire third quarter, and the 3rd string QB played the entire fourth quarter.  Hardly proof we tried running the score up.  The "trick plays," again, were to put it on film for our playoff opponents to have to prepare for.  I guess you could say it sort of helped in our run to the Stagg.

By the way.. since when is a reverse or a fake punt a "trick play"?   I would consider the fun Half Back Pass a trick play but a fake punt?  Really?

A better question is, when the heck are you going to come out to a BC game this year?!

Well considering I moved to GA in May to live with my Fiancee I may have to wait until next year when BC comes to LaGrange.. if that happens.  :P  I'm getting married in November so my schedule has been taken away from me this Fall.    I did get an early birthday present from my girl to the Falcons/Bucs game this past weekend.. they should have kept JT.. he wouldn't have HURT the team!  :D  Anyway, I probably won't make a game this year.. which will end my streak!  :-\  Oh well!    I'll take the sacrifice for a wedding!  ;)

You clearly didn't follow my lead.  I got engaged during our idle week, married during the summer, and moved closer to Bridgewater.  :)

Check this out.  Craig Smith named to the D3 Team of the week.  Cool!  I was only 15 yards from the OT plays.  Wow!  Impressive.

"LB Craig Smith, Sr., Bridgewater (Va.)
Smith recorded 14 tackles (six solo) in the Eagles' overtime victory against Ferrum. He was instrumental in Bridgewater 's goal-line stand in overtime. On second-and-1 and on third-and-1, Smith made the tackles to keep the Panthers out of the end zone."

Hey wrighthall220, I did a doubletake for a second on "live with my fiance" until I saw "I did get an early bithday present from my girl."  "Not that there's anything wrong with that," to quote an old Seinfeld episode.  Never underestimate the importance of that extra "e" on the end to distinguish between "fiance" and "fiancee."   Just messing with you a little.  :)  Peace and good luck to BC against LaGrange!

As I stated before it is not a problem (with the other team) if you can not stop their 2nd and 3rd team players from scoring TDs. Not once during CUA "winning" years did we do something like that. The score may indicate a lopisided win but we never fake punts or ran reverses with that kind of score.
BTW, I can even understand playing your some of your starts on the 1st or 2nd drive in the 3rd quarter. The score did hurt but the plays that I am talking about was a slap in the face.
But my point was that the BC faithful should not complain because their team is just as guilty.
But enough of this topic.
Good luck to everyone in the ODAC and Go Cards, time to bounce back from a disappointing loss.
We are still in your corner!!!!!

To the 2003 semifinals, MUC/BC: In the playoffs you have only 52 men on the roster. Might have even still been 48 in 2003. There's not a lot of bench to empty.
