True Pat,
I was at the game and was not offended by the early field goals, etc. I was just wishing there was some kind of slaughter rule like baseball. Personally, my respect for coach K grew. I agree that he was in a no win situation. Everything they did worked and nothing the Eagles did was effective after the 1st qtr. I came to understand what a dominant system is in place at MUC where experienced guys are in the pipeline at every position.

Quote from: wrighthall220 on September 20, 2006, 03:19:11 PMBy the way.. since when is a reverse or a fake punt a "trick play"?   I would consider the fun Half Back Pass a trick play but a fake punt?  Really?
A better question is, when the heck are you going to come out to a BC game this year?!
Well considering I moved to GA in May to live with my Fiance I may have to wait until next year when BC comes to LaGrange.. if that happens.  :P  I'm getting married in November so my schedule has been taken away from me this Fall.    I did get an early birthday present from my girl to the Falcons/Bucs game this past weekend.. they should have kept JT.. he wouldn't have HURT the team!  :D  Anyway, I probably won't make a game this year.. which will end my streak!  :-\  Oh well!    I'll take the sacrifice for a wedding!  ;)
Hey wrighthall220, I did a doubletake for a second on "live with my fiance" until I saw "I did get an early bithday present from my girl."  "Not that there's anything wrong with that," to quote an old Seinfeld episode.  Never underestimate the importance of that extra "e" on the end to distinguish between "fiance" and "fiancee."   Just messing with you a little.  :)  Peace and good luck to BC against LaGrange!

:D  Thanks I made a quick edit!  I knew that word didn't look right when I typed it out.. by the way I've enjoyed the whole engagement thing except for that Fiancee word.. it makes my skin crawl.. it just screams of a word used on the W&L campus!  ;) :D

You clearly didn't follow my lead.  I got engaged during our idle week, married during the summer, and moved closer to Bridgewater.  :)

Ah I know.. I got her to a BC game last year.. BC/GMU and she loved the town.. not quite what she's used to though as she went to FSU.   I have been online for every game so far this season.. my only problem is the horrid sound the radio feed has from 1360.. I can't quite get my volume settings right to have the best sound possible.  Oh well! If BC keeps the game here in ATL next year I'd be more than happy to help any of you out if you travel down here.. assuming I'm in town!  If anything I'll try my best to represent BC fans well.. even if I'm alone in the stands of LaGrange!

Hey, I know what you mean.  In North Carolina, as long as there's a pig-pickin' somewhere in the wedding festivities, we don't get too worried about spending time at a country club.  You have to feel for people who don't think a two-person tree stand is an appropriate wedding gift.  Personally, I think it's fine as long as it's monogrammed and the silver inlays don't clash with the camouflage paint scheme.  :)

Now that is a funny statement! There is about as much chance of you being alone at LaGrange as the world coming to an end tomorrow. The VA Tech of D-III football ALWAYS travels, no matter where. I know Stone Station will be more than ready to view a few Georgia peaches next September!  ;D

You beat me to it, llamaguy.  I KNOW there will be some Eagles flying down to Georgia in 2007.  lol  "The Virginia Tech of DIII."  It's true - and the BC fans should be proud of it!

Fly?!  Shoot... it's only a 600-mile drive.  Gas is now only $1.99/gallon in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

I took an alumna of The Ohio State University to a Salisbury State at Guilford game in 1988.  She bleeds OSU red and STILL teases me about our game.  The OSU band TBDBITL (The Best Damn Band In The Land, of course) is probably bigger than the "crowd" we had that day.  lol  To her credit, she took me to a game versus Illinois in Columbus and it's an experience I'm truly glad I got to do.  Quite a spectacle - especially when the tuba player dots the "I" in Ohio!  :)  Guilford's pep band could probably spell a passable "G," but I honestly think they might only get about halfway through the "U" before they ran out of bodies.  lol

Just a little poetic license with "Eagles" and "fly."  I didn't mean it literally.  :)

$1.99 up there... $2.19 down here.. it's a good hike.. about 8 hours from BC I would guess.    We will all have to get in touch as that game approaches as I may be able to host some of you... my town house has 2 spare bedrooms and a finished basement and pullout bed/couch.

:D  You've got it!  As long as nothing comes up I'm hoping to make it a BC weekend! :)

Alright people ... come on.  Big game this weekend with Guilford visiting Hampden-Sydney.  Where's the talk!!  We're plenty reactive with games, but I want to see more proactive chit chat...

This will certainly say whether the Quakers are the new Tigers of the ODAC (as far as being a pass-happy threat to the Eagles).  I still think, even with their season-opening loss, that the Generals are the favorite to upend BC.

But GC-HSC will be interesting as far as both teams coming off losses.  I wouldn't go as far as to say the Quakers were favorites in the Averett game, but the Tigers were certainly (in years past, at least) the favorites against Sewanee and Gettysburg.  Here is my take on Guilford...

-The fact that Guilford running backs have touched the ball 36 times in three games for a total of 102 yards (2.8 yd/avg) won't cut it once they build leads with their passing attack.  Both RBs are freshmen and the FB is a sophomore.  They've combined for one career touchdown.

-The Quaker defense is still give up 30+ points a game.  Last year they went 1-4 when their opponents scored 40+ ... which means if their offense has a bad game; game over.  Their defense will have to win games, and holding Hampden-Sydney under 20 wouldn't be a bad start.

-Through the Quakers first three games, I've read a lot of "well, the game wouldn't have been so close (or we wouldn't have lost by 20) had this or that not happened" ... well guess what, "this or that" is what will always win you or lose you games.  In Guilford's case, it was turnovers, special teams and big plays.  Just because you can march down the field on someone (or force the opponent to punt more often than not) doesn't mean you're a good team.  Good teams makes sure they take care of the ball, play sound on special teams and make sure the big plays and momentum changers don't occur.

-As Cummings pointed out in his ATR, when you pass more you'll turn it over more.  Once the reception is made or the ball carrier has the pigskin, a fumble is always possible.  But the ball has to get there first when you pass, thus opening the door up for a defense to make a big play (sacking the QB, intercepting it).  If the Quakers aren't going to implement a ground game this season or pay much attention to defense or special teams, you can count on scores not being indicative of how the game went.

-It was odd to see that GC hasn't scored a point in the third quarter.  38, 38, and 34 in the other three, respectively.  I can understand not scoring in the Ferrum game (they were up 35-7 at the half), but they were tied in the Averett game and up by only eight in the Methodist game at the break.  Historically, that has been one of Bridgewater's biggest scoring quarters.  Making adjustments at the half and either putting an opponent away or climbing back into a game.

These thoughts are simply to get people talking ... I do think Guilford has a much better team than in years past and will definitely fight HSC, BC and W&L for ODAC supremacy.  That's why I'm stunned there isn't more talk about this weekend!!  Quakers haven't won the last six meetings, but are coming in the favorites.  Interesting.
