kid, I think all serious Guilford fans know your points are absolutely valid.  I've watched a lot of football in my life and personally seen the Quakers play 2 out of 3  times this season.  The offensive imbalance and the defensive weaknesses are nerve-wracking and certainly not "conventional" football, but, like the proverbial train wreck, you watch it anyway just to see what happens next.  lol  For my part, I believe there is some "nervous anticipation" about the HSC game that is best served with very little pregame bravado.  In my opinion, the Quakers have not yet earned the right to be very cocky.  lol  Win it on the road and we may have the springboard for a breakthrough season.  Lose another game similar to the Averett contest and things revert to "I told you so" or "the new Hampden-Sydney."  :)  I think the Quakers will win, but the Tigers have got to be hungry at 0-2 and entering their first home game.  We'll see.

On a personal note, I've been pretty busy with work and helping my Mom deal with the death of her oldest sister about 14 hours ago.  She was 97 and 20+ years older than Mom, but she's been living with my Mom for the past year and a half.  The funeral is at 2 pm on Saturday in Stuart, VA, so I won't be able to attend the game or listen on the internet.  I trust some of you fellows will write good reports so I can play catch-up on Sunday.

Good luck to everyone on Saturday, but especially to my Quakers!  :)

PS I'll settle for 47-45 again as long as we have the 47 this year.  lol

I've sorry to hear about your aunt.  We'll do our best to breakdown the game for you!

Trust me, ask Llamaguy why I wasn't posting much before the Ferrum-Bridgewater.  I was nervous!!  So I know what you mean. ;)

Is it Saturday yet?!

Thanks.  I sincerely appreciate your condolences.  I figured you knew what I meant about thoughts leading up to an important game.  I think BC going to Ferrum last weekend was a perfect example of what I'm talking about.  BC was favored, but the Eagles knew they might be in for a fight.  Hopefully, after this weekend, I'll be able to see all the remaining home games (Greenboro, BC and CUA) plus RMC and maybe E&H on the road.  I wish I could go to Lexington again this year, but I think October is going to be too busy.

Hasanova, rethink the Lexington gig.  It is beautiful in the fall, if you've never been.  There aren't too many places in VA that beat Lexington.  One of my favorite spots.  Ashland is beautiful, but after a few beers at the Palms, and a stroll on the W&L campus. . . . it's just too hard to beat.

And I'm no Mink fan in any sense of the word.  But I'd recommend it to any of the most diehard fans here that post.

Hey jacketlawyer, good to hear from you.  Actually, when I used the word "again," I was rather poorly trying to say I had been to Lexington before for GC/W&L games.  I remember going the first time in 1991 when Guilford joined the ODAC and again twice in the late 1990's when Christian Batchelor was QB for the Generals.  Christian graduated from Patrick County HS and is the stepson of one of my childhood friends, who is now a physician in Stuart.  Fortunately, at least for me, I have seen the Quakers win all three times I've gone to Lexington.  I've eaten at the Palms, enjoyed some outdoor concerts and stayed at least once at a very nice Comfort Inn (I think), which is very close to campus.  I've seen Traveler and walked around the VMI parade grounds!  Being the amateur history buff and antique collector that I am, it's a perfect weekend when you combine it with a beautiful venue for small college football.  I may still go to Lexington on the 21st, but Oct 7-8 is a trip to Charlotte to see the Panthers, Oct. 14 is BC in Greensboro and Oct. 28 is a trip I hope to make to Ashland.  Somewhere in there, I've got to paint some shutters and clean the gutters!  lol  :)

By the way.. since when is a reverse or a fake punt a "trick play"?   I would consider the fun Half Back Pass a trick play but a fake punt?  Really?

A better question is, when the heck are you going to come out to a BC game this year?!

Well considering I moved to GA in May to live with my Fiancee I may have to wait until next year when BC comes to LaGrange.. if that happens.  :P  I'm getting married in November so my schedule has been taken away from me this Fall.    I did get an early birthday present from my girl to the Falcons/Bucs game this past weekend.. they should have kept JT.. he wouldn't have HURT the team!  :D  Anyway, I probably won't make a game this year.. which will end my streak!  :-\  Oh well!    I'll take the sacrifice for a wedding!  ;)

Yes, I was forced to write Jon Gruden that he was a linebacker short of a good defense.  ::) ::) The guy who chooses which player to keep?  His elevator doesn't go up to the top.  But the allusions may have been too highbrow for Coach Gruden.  Wonder if they can really score or defend?  So far it really doesn't look like it. ;D ;D ;D ;D

Hey wrighthall220, I did a doubletake for a second on "live with my fiance" until I saw "I did get an early bithday present from my girl."  "Not that there's anything wrong with that," to quote an old Seinfeld episode.  Never underestimate the importance of that extra "e" on the end to distinguish between "fiance" and "fiancee."   Just messing with you a little.  :)  Peace and good luck to BC against LaGrange!

Hasa--he just didn't have any French when he was matriculating at BC.  If he had, he would have put the extra e there.  Oh well, at least I've been to Lagrange once.  They have a beautiful baseball field, but there isn't much else there.  I'm planning on making the bus trip next year if Ellen has one!

I thought I remembered reading that LaGrange would travel to BC for 2006 AND 2007, then BC would not travel there until 2008.  Does that ever happen and does anyone know for sure about going there in 2007?  Didn't BC play Shenandoah at home and then at their place a couple years in a row?  I tried to find the article in the archives from last year when they made those arrangements with LaGrange but had no luck.

I believe the Shenandoah deal was due to their stadium not being ready for play the first year and we needed a home game the next year, thus we went up there two years in a row to even things out. LaGrange has facilities so I would assume we would travel next year.

Thanks, olinemom.  Hey, do you and jacketlawyer have part ownership in any restaurants and hotels in downtown Lexington or are you on retainer from the Chamber of Commerce?  lol  I know it's a great trip - I've enjoyed it every time.  I'll think about it some more.  :)  A quick story about W&L football - in 1991 my car was in the shop and I had already promised to go to the game in Lexington with my then 9-year old son.  So, at the last minute, I was forced to borrow from my brother a raggedy '71 dark green stepside Chevy pickup with FARM USE ONLY tags and a treated lumber 2x12 for the front bumper.  Well, it was Homecoming at the "Double-U-N-L" and the only place I could find to park was to squeeze between a new silver Jaquar sedan and a vintage chauffeur-driven black Rolls-Royce.  They probably thought the Beverly Hillbillies had just rolled into town, but we struck up a pretty nice conversation.  I offered them some KFC extra crispy and a 5-gallon sheetrock compound bucket for a seat and they offered me some pate de foie gras and a tax tip on how to write off camouflage duct tape as a business expense.  lol  Anyway, they got to try KFC for the first time in their life and I got to eat pate for free one more time!  I offered to repair a broken flask with the duct tape, but they said no.  Go figure.  All kidding aside, they were good folks and understood that sometimes you do what you have to do!  They were careful, too.  After the game, I didn't see a single ding on our doors with either silver or black paint.  :)

Yes, you are correct.  Lexington is a great place to take in a D3 Football game.  My 11 year old Daughter lives there along with my oldest Brother who has 3 children.  Actually, I'm traveling over there tomorrow to pick her up for the weekend.  I've made that trip from Lynchburg to Lexington over 500+ times in the past 7 years.  My other older Brother graduated from VMI so once a year he invites me to a VMI game to host the tailgate for his BR's. Stone Station represented!!!!   Two years ago we saw quite the show.  A CH-47 Chinook helicopter actually dropped out some sky-divers twice.  Once was the first trial run, the second was the actual deal for kick-off.  Then after the Helicopter dropped the sky-divers for the kick-off, it landed on the Parade Deck.  Quite the site as I have it on video tape.  They then let us tour the inside and talk to the crew.  Great Atmosphere at Lexington as well as VMI.  And I too have been to Harry Palms many a time.  Great wait staff and very friendly regardless of where you are from.

Just my two cents for whatever it's worth......And I'm sure most of you here reading on D3Football.com know my ex-wife.  From what I've heard, she is known in D1-A, D1-AA, D2, NAIA, and D3......

Just a joke if she ever reads this....I was being humorous.

SkoalTrain rolling to BC 9/29/06.  ETA 3:00 p.m. which is actually 22 hours before kickoff.

I hope that GC plays from the first half this year, b/c if we would have done that last year the 47 would have been on our side. Good Luck to the Quakers this weekend.

Sorry to hear about the death Hasa
