I agree with some previous posters regarding turnovers.  I think they're key.  Right now, Guilford has not shown me they can overcome too many against a good team - and I think BC is a very good team!  I'm sure the Guilford players and coaches have worked on holding on to the ball and not throwing into coverage.  Hopefully, as one poster worried, the Quakers have already surrendered their  2006 quota.  :)

Congrats to Stuart and W&L for making the front page!  8)

Washington and Lee's Stuart Sitterson, a preseason All-American as a return specialist, threw for two touchdowns, ran for 90 yards and had 79 receiving yards in the Generals' 28-0 win at Catholic. His first touchdown was a throwback to quarterback R.J. Varner, while his second was to 2005 All-American Jack Martin.

These photos are of Guilford's campus, Homecoming and the Greensboro game.  At 342 shots, it's a bit much for most of us, but the first 30 or so photos are some great shots of the campus and the last 20 or so photos are a good view of Barnette scoring the winning TD in the 2nd OT.

I add my congratulations to W&L and their front page coverage.

Hey Hasanova, you didn't tell me I could bring my fishing pole Saturday! ;D

Sure!  Those are some nice shots, aren't they?  :)  I'm not sure what's in the lake, but it's "reel" close to where you guys will probably be setting up (it's behind Ragan-Brown Fieldhouse and the tennis courts if you want to walk - or drive - down there).

A few historic posts that have some meaning this week:

Posted by Llamaguy after the Ferrum game-

Yes Guilford did exactly as I thought. One point some failed to see was that Guiford was opening their new and improved stadium. Did you really think they would come out flat on such a historic day in the turn around of Guilford football? I said early that the Guilford game with BC will be the "game-of-the-year" in the ODAC in 2006. Oh, and I wasn't around to drink the losing kool-aide in the past so that didn't sway me in this year's Ferrum prediction.

Now wouldn't that be an interesting site to see. A fully crimson painted man driving a nova around the new field while spouting lymerics as "We are the Champions" is blarring from the 8-track in the dash.
Regardless I will definitely be in attendance and will experience the reaction firsthand either way.

Llamaguy - It would be interesting to see, if not do, no doubt about that!  A few corrections are in order, however.  I would probably not be "fully painted in crimson" - I'm sure there would also be some tasteful hints of gray.  Driving the red '68 Nova around the track:  can do if the police look the other way - I'm not Luke in the General Lee you know!  Where is Cooter Davenport when you need him?  How about a few doughnuts in the end zone?  Please note: this car was last driven around the Guilford track at the 1970 Homecoming parade (yes, I owned it when I was a student!).  Sorry, the 8-track was removed about 30 years ago - guess we'll have to use some more modern technology.  Got iPod?  Limericks - not a problem!  Let's see "eagle, beagle, legal, Spiegel - it's anapestic, of course, but give me a minute, I'll rhyme it!  He's British, gay and dead (three things I'm not!), but Freddy Mercury did sing a mean sports anthem or two.  I'll put him on the play list along with "another one bites the dust!"  lol    I hope a lot of people will be in attendance on October 14, but unfortunately it's fall break for the students.  I've got my tickets already, so I hope I'll meet some of you guys.  I should be easy to spot - I'll be the crimson (and gray) guy driving a '68 Nova, reciting a limerick that rhymes with "kick an eagle's butt" or some such line and cranking up Queen to about 120 decibels!

Roll Call:
Who is in this weekend for a trip to Greensboro? Either way it looks like one teams' fans will be celebrating pretty hard! :o

Yeah but I wouldn't go any where near that pond at Guilford because it is the most disgusting thing i've seen in my life. If your wondering whats in there, well theres probally about 10 golf carts from students driving them into the water. So if you fish there be aware of the golf carts.

I hope that Guilford can come over the interception disease that they are on right now and pull this game out. It should be at least close unless the Quakes start turning it over again.

Kira & Jaxon's Dad

I noticed a golf cart or two in some of the pictures, are those standard issue or something?  :)

Great pictures by the way.. the campus and field look great!  I wish BC would invest in a few of those brick walk ways.. they look much nicer than what we have.  ;D

Matt Barnhart (kid)

I was looking over their last 11 games (in which they have gone 8-3), and this is what I found...

They've won by an average of 11 points in their eight wins, with seven coming against teams with a losing record.

2005
1-point win over 1-9 Greensboro
2-point win over 7-3 Washington & Lee (in Greensboro)
8-point win over 2-8 Randolph-Macon (in Greensboro)
7-point win over 3-7 Catholic
36-point win over 1-9 Emory & Henry (in Greensboro)

2006
14-point win over 1-4 Ferrum (in Greensboro)
16-point win over 2-3 Methodist
6-point win over 2-3 Greensboro (in Greensboro)

I think their win against W&L last year (at home) is certainly a sign that they can beat a quality team, but Vogelbach still threw four interceptions in the win.  So he clearly doesn't need to have a TO-free day for GC to win.

Also, in the eight wins, he threw 20 INTs to 34 TDs, still not a good average.

As far as running the ball, in the eight wins, the Quakers only averaged 74 yards on the ground, and eclipsed the 100-yard mark once.

Point being, we keep saying "oh, Vogelbach needs to cut down on TOs to win" ... and ... "Guilford needs to find a running game to compliment their passing attack."  Well, the above stats show otherwise.  Or is it simply that they can defeat inferior competition with TOs and no running game?

In Guilford's three losses during their 8-3 run the last two years, the problem seems to be always playing catch up.

Against BC last year, they went down 27-0 by the second quarter and never had the lead.  Against Averett this year, they never had the lead after the 13-minute mark of the second quarter ... and very similarly, against Hampden-Sydney, they were never up after the 11-minute mark of the second quarter.

So I guess the keys won't be GC running the ball, or GC not turning it over ... perhaps it'll simply be GC sticking to their passing game and coming out strong to not let it get away from them early?

BC's offense has scored 190 pts.
25 TD
23 XP
5   FG
1   S

thus far this year Guilford's offense has scored 189.
26 TD
19 XP
4   2XP
2   FG

Yes the two points separating the two team's offenses is a safety that BC's offense scored for the other team.

Wait.. it looks like someone from GC kidnapped a Bridgwater resident!   :o

lol  I was wondering when someone would mention Max.  That's Max Carter, the Director of the Friends Center and Campus Ministry Coordinator.  He is a true Quaker and a good guy.  I've never seen him around campus in a car and I've never seen him clean shaven.  :)  He's an alumnus of Earlham, which is also a Quaker college, in Indiana.  If you ever meet him, stop and talk.  He has a great sense of humor.  Someone asked him once why he never shaved and he said, "You mean besides the $10 I've saved in my life on shaving supplies?"  lol

That's a true small college character!  BC has several but it just caught me as funny as I could swear I've seen this guy riding down the roads of Bridgewater on his Tractor....  ;D    Someone needs to update that guy on the cost of shaving supplies.. iit's at least $10 for just the freaking razor blade heads!  :D
