It's not a matter of reading selectively Mr. Coleman.  I, along with several other alumni, interpreted those remarks to be very sarcastic.  I think it can honestly be said that nobody but those young men wearing blue and white Saturday thought Emory would win.

Trust me, all week, BC fans were worried about this game.  Not only because E&H was coming in with a 3-3 record, but also with our Eagles' performance against the Quakers.  I'm pretty sure there was no overlooking the Wasps, but just like you will with your Wasps, BC fans were certainly hoping the Eagles would win.

No need to come on here and say no one gave Emory & Henry respect.  The Wasps earned all that on the field today - that's why BC fans are coming on here with congratulations and not excuses.

*Cue the fight song*... So rah rah for Emory and Henry.  Rah rah for Emory and Henry.  Rah rah for Emory. Rah rah rah!

Great win today Waspers.  Now its Catholic at home then on to W&L for what could be the ODAC Championship Game.  Ah, how sweet those words sound to my ears.

BC has excellent players, it just seems that they couldn't get it together for all 60:00.  Please beat the W&L Bow Ties next week to shake things up a little.

Pat, how many points do you have us as underdogs for next week?  I don't think 55 was quite enough.

Jeez, I go to bat for the underdog and honestly suggest that I think the BC/EHC game could go anyway, and your punk self and fellow Buzzers read into it sarcastically.

Well - I hope you spent all game thinking..."man oh man, that Cummings was so "wrong" when he was sarcastic about our chances."

You know why - because then you wouldn't be enjoying the fact that I thought you did have a chance, and that EHC did go out and win the game.

If you don't see the proof in the ODAC Pick-Em, I don't know what to tell you.

From last week's column..."Emory and Henry seems to have found their stride with a 3-3 mark through seven weeks and will travel to Bridgewater looking to pull a previously unfathomable victory."

Guess that was sarcastic too.  If BC wallops Guilford, no one gives EHC a chance.  That didn't happen, I gave EHC a chance - picked them - and voila.  Guess that 1-9 bitter taste is still lingering.

So my suggestion - shut up and enjoy it.  The Wasps could win the ODAC...another quote from last week...

"The ODAC race does not come down to just W&L and Bridgewater. Factor in Guilford, Catholic and Emory & Henry. Any team with one loss must be feared and with four weeks of football remaining, four ODAC teams have one defeat and W&L plays three of them."

Again - no sarcasm there.  It's true - believe it.

Pat, I'll apologize.  I admit that I don't check the Pick 'Em Contest- ever.  I sincerely regret that I didn't see that and I misinterpreted your remarks.

Great observation EHCPride, I couldn't have said it better.

Cliff note version of my thoughts:

1.  Our OL misses way too many assignments (do we miss Colbert?).
2.  Highfill needs to play a lot better.
3.  Our playcalling is too predictable.  The third time we lined up in the shotgun with Winston and Carter flanking Highfill, the E&H coaches in the press box called the inside give to Carter (probably b/c it's the same play we'd run the 1st two times in that formation).  Of course, that's exactly what we did, for negative one yard.  (Do we miss Colbert?)

Bottom line.  Colbert is gone.  This season is basically shot in terms of what our goals were.  What I'd really like to see the rest of the way is some heart and pride from BC.  We need to fight, scratch, and establish a new identitiy to carry us into next season and beyond.  Which players (and coaches) are going to step up and take this charge?

We need to re-claim the ODAC, and we need to start next week against W&L.

Thanks.

If I'm being sarcastic, I'll lay it on real hard.  You'd know it.  Congrats on the big win.

EHCPride

Thanks for accepting my apologies Pat.  Tell you what, I'll go ahead and open myself up to ridicule and pick the winners and scores for next week's games right now.

First off, my Waspers.  Great win today, but I'm hoping they aren't overlooking Catholic in favor of a trip to W&L.

Catholic 3
EHC 21

Guilford at Macon.  Macon has no D, Guilford has a great O.  Look for Vogelbach, Rushing & Co. to put up gaudy stats.

Guilford 56
Macon 7

Dickinson at HS-C.  I don't know anything about Dickinson, other than what is posted on this site.

Dickinson 17
HS-C 10

Finally, BC/W&L- I hate the Generals, I'll admit that openly and freely.  Too many chants of "That's alright, that's okay, you're gonna work for us someday."  I also think BC will rebound big in a close one to shake up the ODAC.

W&L 10
Bridgewater 14

+1 EHCPride,

Everyone loves Cinderella, unless she turns out to be as mean and ugly as the mean, ugly step-sisters. :o  :P :-\

The ODAC's turn of events has just garnered quite a bit more press this season, because we see some new faces showing up.  That is what is fun!

Let us enjoy the return of the Wasps! :)

onlinemom...perhaps your 2 losses will not bother you at the end.

Poor PLU
LINFIELD has them by the neck in the early 4th 41-7
I appreciate the sentiment but they sure aren't looking good at the moment.   Maybe I'm just down tonight but I hope we rebound with a passion next week.    And I am thrilled that my other O-LIne did so well that Linfield had 41-21 at the end.  I don't know what's with those last 2 touchdowns by the Lutes.  Gig Harbor text messaged me during the game because I wasn't going to be near a computer.  It was fabulous.  I knew it as soon as it happened.  It's been a really bad week at BC.  We lost a faculty member in a car wreck and we lost an emeritus due to a stroke so 2 memorial services.  I wouldn't want to redo this week again, that's for sure.  Thanks for the kind words for my guys!!  I hope you are right for their sakes!!!  E-brownies to you!! :)

WOW!!!!

It's been a while since I've posted, but what an interesting day in the ODAC.  Congrats W&L looks like the D was a little to tough for us today.  Congrats ECH, I truely didn't see that comming but way to go.

It sure was great getting to meet all the BC folks last weekend when they came down.  Kid, Llama Guy, and Olinemom I'm sure I'll see you guys soon.  I might have to come to the Stagg bowl if for no other reason then to get another one of those brownies. ;)  Like I said at the game last weekend, if I got those brownies on a Monday during film, we would have won a lot more games when I was playing, lol.

GCol, yes I got phone calls all afternoon announcing the W&L-GC scoring.  It sounds like W & L really has it all together.  And in consulting with Llamaguy, I can say that we will be at the Stagg Bowl to spread good cheer in the tailgate section.  You know I'll have the brownies and now that you have had some, I hope that you will really do your best to come.  It usually a fantastic game.  The fans that come are very congenial.  A good time, that's for sure.
However, today was another matter.   :( :( It was better than last week, but not good enough.  4th and 17 and you let the guy catch the ball and then to compound the problem you trash talk and get the ball to be put on our 5 yard line.  You can't win like that.  What a costly mistake that mouthing off was!!!!!
At any rate, tomorrow is another day.  After the death of 2 colleagues this week, one realizes that a game is, after all, a game.  Coach Clark spoke at the memorial tonight for one of my friends.  A really good message.
We need to focus already on the next game.  Today we weren't the best team on the field.  That honor belonged to E&H  (Congrats to my friend, Nolan Jeffries.  Your team won this time!!!!)
Sending you e-brownies for the moment until you can come to Stone Station on the road and have the real thing!! ;D ;D

The last two weeks have been interesting in the ODAC, pretty much just because Bridgewater lost. I think everybody got used to playing for 2nd the last few years. Seeing Bridgewater with 2 losses in conference is absolutley bizarre. My take on the state of the ODAC...
W&L - The Generals have had a good defense the last few years, but have finally seemed to find a decent offense to make them a winner.
EHC - Wasps are contenders again. EHC is rebuilding quickly, and Monty might make them favorites to win the ODAC in 2007.
H-SC - Marty Ball isn't as strong without a Ricca at the helm, but he has shown that the Tigers aren't quite dead.
GC - Beating BC is huge, but is their win a sign of their emergence or more of a sign of BC's fall from the top.
BC - Still dangerous every week, but vulnerable like they haven't been in years. While Mike Clark appears to be a great coach for everything that has happened over the last 6 years, Coach Colbert seems to have been more responsible for BC's success than otherwise thought.
CUA - Not sure what to think of Dave Dunn yet. Tom Clark saved the program over the last 2 years, and Dunn is trying to put in his system with Clark's pieces. They are definitely improved, but still have a lot of work to do.
R-MC - Wins matter, and Coach Arruza isn't getting them. Don't know how long he will last without making strides in the ODAC standings.

WHAT IS GOING ON???????????????????
They need your support,  a good talking to and some mentoring.  Are you available?  E-brownies now and real ones if you can make it up for a game.  We only have one more ---against the Gennies.  If anybody is not worried, they have holes in their heads.

WHAT IS GOING ON???????????????????

IMHO - 2 Words - Coach Colbert
well the delayed draw play that worked for E&H (to the tune of 64 yards and a touchdown) had nothing to do with Coach Colbert, nor did the trash talking penalty that put the ball on the 5 yd like with 2 minutes to go in the 4th quarter.  A little too simplistic of an answer, Eh

If the following happens over the next three weeks...

October 28, 2006
Catholic @ Emory & Henry
Guilford @ Randolph Macon
Washington & Lee @ Bridgewater

November 4, 2006
Bridgewater @ Randolph Macon
Catholic @ Guilford
Emory & Henry @ Washington & Lee

November 11, 2006
Bridgewater @ Catholic
Guilford @ Emory & Henry
Randolph Macon @ Hampden-Sydney

...then this is what the ODAC standings will look like at season's end:

1. BC (4-2)
2. WLU (4-2)
3. EHC (3-3)
3. H-SC (3-3)
3. GC (3-3)
3. CUA (3-3)
7. R-MC (1-5)

Trust me ... I know it's a stretch, but it's still "possible."  :)

It would certainly be nice for Eagles' fans if things play out like that!

I'm looking at how easy the Eagles' non-conference schedule has been this year (no CNU), with 3 of their wins against the likes of Shenandoah (2-5), Ferrum (1-5), and LaGrange (0-8), and they are currently only 1-2 in the ODAC, so I have to go with the Generals to win next week's game.

These are my picks for the next three weeks...

October 28, 2006
Catholic @ Emory & Henry
Guilford @ Randolph Macon
Washington & Lee @ Bridgewater

November 4, 2006
Bridgewater @ Randolph Macon
Catholic @ Guilford
Emory & Henry @ Washington & Lee

November 11, 2006
Bridgewater @ Catholic
Guilford @ Emory & Henry
Randolph Macon @ Hampden-Sydney

This is what the ODAC standings would look like at season's end:

1. WLU (6-0)
2. EHC (4-2)
    H-SC (4-2)
4. BC (3-3)
    GC (3-3)
6. CUA (1-5)
7. R-MC (0-6)

So when was the last time the Generals won the ODAC or went to the NCAA Football Playoffs?

Of course, if my picks are right except that I'm wrong on the Emory & Henry at Washington & Lee game, then the Wasps and Generals will both finish 5-1 and the folks from Emory will be getting their first NCAA playoff game since 2000.
