Congrats to E&H on a fine game.

As I read the predictions and scenarios I would like to point out a couple of things.

First if I were an E&H fan I wouldn't read more into the victory over BC than a win. You beat a team that was flat after being stunned the week before.  I don't think BC staff was ready for the rushing attack by GC and it stunned everybody.  By all accounts of the game the BC Eagles failed to execute like they had in the past.  I think the team's psyche was bruised from the week before.

I am very concerned for the Generals prospects for this coming Sat for that very reason, I just can't see the staff at BC facing three straight weeks of losses.  I think you will see the kitchen sink thrown at the W&L defense.  I think BC pride in their program will shake them out of the stupor that gripped them last Sat against E&H.

With that said I would love for Kid to really break down the numbers.  As a casual observer I think Frank's boys have really embraced his love of defense.  It showed against HSC and GC.  They just don't give up much.  How many passes were dropped by GC recievers AFTER they had the ball in their hands and were hit by W&L DB's?  The D-line had the push all afternoon.  For the past years Frank's D helped the Generals win the games they were supposed to win and keep them in games the shouldn't have been in.  Now he has an offense to give his D some rest.

I think the Generals can run the table in the ODAC IF they survive the onslaught of the first half against BC.  If they control the first half they will win the game.  But I am telling all of you they will face a fury like they haven't seen all season during the opening of the game this Sat.  I think our boys will keep their composure and grind it out against the Eagles and come out the with W.

As far as Emory & Henry we will see if last Sat means they are the real deal.  They have to beat W&L and GC to rise to the top and I don't think they can.

I'm been awol for awhile on the board, but the Cheeks squadron is driving down from NYC to the Water for the game on Saturday.

A generic comment on the tailgate would be helpful....

GATA GATA GATA

Its been 5 years since the Cheeks played the 'Water, but driving thru B'Water a few weeks ago en route to lexington, the loins of the Cheeks felt the buzz of the legendary battles that have gone down on Wilson and Jopson fields....

May the Cheeks be with you

In response to WLU78 assessment of the Bridgewater-E&H game, I would say that you could not be any far off.  Usually a team does not come out flat after their first loss in the ODAC in the last few years.  If anything they came out flat in the loss to Guilford, and I fully expected them to come out with a chip on their shoulder.  That is what most teams do, and I am betting that that was the plan from Bridgewater.

Saying that, Bridgewater wanted to run right over the Emory defense and that just doesn't happen anymore.  Their defense is kind of like a bend don't break d, and they give up some big plays in the air every once in a while, but in a grind it out game I give the edge to Emory.  Their offensive and defensive lines get better every week.

If I was W&L and Emory, I would not be talking about conference championships just yet.  I would worry about next weeks opponents and take it week to week because neither teams has been in this position in a long time.  You see the Emory and W&L game is meaningless if Emory loses the next week to Guilford.  Just as the W&L faithful wants to talk about that game, well they need to take care of bussiness against a Bridgewater team that is really gonna come out fired up to play and avoid a 3 game skid.

Lastly, hats off to the coaching staff of Washington & Lee and Emory.  W & L had a very strong season last year, and are a step away from being the class of the ODAC this year.  Good luck to them.  As for Emory, the improvement has been monumental.  Every week gets better and better.  Don Montgomery has instilled character and toughness in the program and they are on the way back.  The next few weeks could be magical.  Good luck to all.

WHAT IS GOING ON???????????????????

IMHO - 2 Words - Coach Colbert
well the delayed draw play that worked for E&H (to the tune of 64 yards and a touchdown) had nothing to do with Coach Colbert, nor did the trash talking penalty that put the ball on the 5 yd like with 2 minutes to go in the 4th quarter.  A little too simplistic of an answer, Eh

I totally agree.  I've seen every home game and even the games we've won didn't always look crisp.  Yesterday I saw at least three times that open receivers were overthrown.  And a lot of the receptions weren't on target.  Including 3rd down in the last series of the game, when I think it was Winston Young was open in the end zone for what would have been a game winning touchdown.  Just inconsistent.  The 57 yard td pass was beautiful though!  But to say its because Coach Colbert is gone is just an excuse.  Of course the team will miss him, but the players have to make plays!
Play for pride now BC!!

From Matt: "Trust me ... I know it's a stretch, but it's still "possible."

Stretch or not there is a chance and as long as there is a chance football teams will play their guts out until the lights go out. Almost everybody gets their shot....soon.

COngrats to Wasps, Monty and staff on a great win, and making the turn around this season. GUess everyone else in the ODAC is beginning to realize what we at Mount have known about Monty in building a terrific program and a proven leader. Glad to see the ODAC is going down to the wire and best of luck to everyone.

I felt like I was watching a replay of the Bears/Cards game from Monday night. It just seemed that BC was playing not to lose instead of playing to win.

We have the talent, we have the coaches, we just got to find our hearts for the game.

It's time to breakout the "Rocky III" movie. Let's get our swagger back.

GO EAGLES!!

Welcome back a**hole!! (Just kidding, I have always felt you are one of the most entertaining posters on this board.)

Is "The Cheeks" going to make an appearance at Jopson this week?  If so, slide by Stone Station.  I'll be the guy in the green pickup blaring "Monsters of Rock" 8)  If you come by I'll have a cold one waiting.  The 'Gennies look really tough this year.  Should be a great game.

cannot believe I am pulling for Eagle feathers and it is not playoff time yet. They got to pull down those Bow Ties.

It's certainly something to play for ... we won't be the ODAC champs, but we can say we were the only team (in the conference) to beat the eventual ODAC champs.  Clark will probably be pressing that upon the guys this week.

Congrats to E&H for the huge upset and W&L for putting themselves well ahead of the rest on the ODAC at this point. The D was everywhere.

This was my take on the game as well.  Their D was smothering.  It was enough to make me go and guzzle my favorite beverage after the 3rd quarter.

I'm fascinated by E&H's rapid turnaround (and as an R-M fan, who'd really be surprised?).  They are getting after it.  Other than Monty, anyone have any theories on it?  This is a discussion I'd really like to read. . . . ???

Either W&L or E&H can become ODAC champs simply by winning the rest of their games.

Kid has outlined a scenario in which Bridgewater wins the ODAC championship.

I'm looking at whether there are scenarios that send Hampden-Sydney, Catholic, or Guilford to the NCAA Tournament.   There may be.

Congratulations to E&H and Monty....those who know Monty and his passion had no doubts that he would get it done, I am happy for him and his team...he is an outstanding coach and better man..

For many years, Monty was the biggest heart of the Mount Union football program , and you will not find many (if any) of his former players who would not storm the beaches with him  anywhere,anytime...

Although I should not be, I am a bit surprised it is happening this quickly...
