Never heard of such a ridulous rule......as for the wives and girlfriends I refuse to go there.

EHCPride

Remind me not to take a few days off of the boards again.

1) Frenjr, I can appreciate the fact that the Waspers are winning and I congratulate the players and coaching staff on the fact that last weekend was a big win.  That being said, I still hold that Monty needs to throw the ball more.  He's got a proven QB in Woods and an awesome receiving corps.  Throwing the ball more will result in teams not stacking the box against his obviously favored run game.

2) I have to agree the Bridgewater posters are being sincerely gracious in the past week.  I have to also state that I love the sound of the EHAC, but I ask that the use of that term is prohibited until the Waspers win another ODAC title.  Here's to hoping that the Eagles beat the bejeezus of the Gennies to make that more of a possibility.

3) The NCAA rule is still in effect- for all sports.  I was at an Emory b-ball game last year and the student section had to be asked to stop using the noisemakers they were employing to get under the skin of the opponents.  As if the King Center heat wasn't enough...

Until next time, I bid you all adieu and let's hope the right ODAC teams win tomorrow (Emory, Bridgewater and Macon).

Tags: Artificial Noisemaker Rule, Cow Bells, Mike Slive, NCAA, SEC, Traidition.

Yeah, the SEC sucks that bad. Anyway, here is the story.

The SEC has released a statement after receiving special permission from the NCAA to continue its ban and penalties against artificial noisemakers.

The NCAA has granted the Southeastern Conference's request to retain the penalty structure for its artificial noisemaker rule during football games this season.

Prior to the start of the 2006 season, the NCAA Football Rules Committee eliminated the "crowd noise" rule, which, in turn, eliminated the penalty structure of the SEC's artificial noisemaker rule.

The penalties, to be given by the on-field officials at their discretion, are as follows:

(a) The first time the referee detects the significant use of artificial noisemakers by those in the crowd, he will call a referee's timeout and issue a verbal warning through the public address system.

(b) On the second incident involving the significant use of artificial noisemakers, a 5-yard penalty shall be assessed against the offending institution.

(c) On the third, and any subsequent, incident involving the significant use of artificial noisemakers, a 15-yard penalty shall be assessed against the offending institution."

This rule definitely biased and targets only one school, Mississippi State, and the tradition of fans bringing and ringing cowbells to cheer on their team. Nevermind the fact that opposing fans could bring cowbells of their own, ring them, and cause the other team to receive a penalty.

I have never seen any rule so ridiculous that would allow someone off the field to cause a penalty to the players on the field. How many other conferences have received special permission to retain this rule?

I say "Bring 'em and Ring 'em!"

Bejeezus is my daughter's favorite word.  I don't think Gennies have Bejeezus (or is the plural Bejeezi, I don't no cuz I'm jist a BC gradudate) because they clash with bowties.
GO BC!

Most of the current players don't know who I am and they don't know anything about what i'm about to say but someone please pass this on to them ('cause they shouldn't be on here ;) ) and explain what it means.  The tradition, where the championships started, the playoffs began.  It all started with a couple sayings/quotes/songs/chants whatever you want to call them.  To the defense:  Tomorrow we need you to go out and "pimp dem hoes".  To the team: "We ain't, go-in nowhere, we ain't, goin nowhere
We can't be stopped now, cause it's BC for Life
We ain't, go-in nowhere, we ain't, goin nowhere
We can't be stopped now, cause it's BC for Life".  Re-focus, be relentless and bring it together fellas!

callme6,

I'm glad you're still lurking around these boards!!  We sure do miss having you out there ... especially the leadership.  You sure will go down as one of BC's greatest and most of the credit goes to you and your boys for turning this program around!  Thanks for what you did!!  Gave a lot of us fans something great to follow!

Matt,

Thanks a lot!  Everybody worked together and we did it as a unit.  I still remember coach Colbert saying that as much talent as we had on O he had never been around a team that no one complained about not getting the ball.  We were all good friends and just wanted to win.  I'm just proud to be a part of this school, the fans, and the success.  I'll always be lurking around..........  :)

I hate to be so negative but I have been very disappointed with their presentation this year.  I think their numbers are down but seriously, last week during the 3rd quarter there were almost as many visitors in the pep band section than members.

not to be a pepband defender,(although I was in the group for a couple of years) but I think they are going through some transitions as well this year.  I fully expect them to be back in full spirit and force next year!!!

they've graduated a lot of people too  ;)
HELLO MAMMA G by the way!!!!

How can we win when you are not there in sandals and shorts, Plabrass?  What's wrong with this picture ??? ???

To this years seniors:

Thanks guys.  You have been a part of a special time in Bridgewater Collge Football history.  You have given us "old guys" an avenue to "live vicariously" through your effots the last four years.  It's been a great ride.  I think I speak for many alumni that have been blessed to be able to re-connect with Bridgwater College through the football community.  It's a really great thing, and something that I think few small colleges can share.  Again, thank you.

Now, as far as a pep talk....................

Guys, you still have an opportunity to cement your impression in the "annals" of BC football.  Whatever happpens with playoff bids and whatnot, these last three games will speak to your contributions and your legacy.  Get fired up, let it all hang out, and make it your mission to go 3-0 over the last three games.  The chips will fall where they may, but you guys have earned a special place in the hearts of us die-hards.  You also set the tone for the future of BC football next year and beyond.  Let's go guys, BC............ODAC.........

Lets go guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!  We'll all be there cheering with all we got.

Sincerely,

Miz

p.s.:  Kid, do you think you can "normalize" those sack totals to reflect opponents number of passing attempts when I played?  I think I should rank higher on the list due to the fact that teams we played in the mid-90's ran the ball 70+% of the time.......................... Oh well, it was worth a try.........

The way the conference is playing out this year the next three weeks should be fun.

E&H could win all three or lose all three.
I agree  the future looks bright again in wasper land whatever happens the rest of the year.

I expect Bridgewater to play with tons of pride today.

W&L might be the real deal. Losing both starting QB and running back is not slowing them down much. Defensive stats look very impressive.

I just wanted to reinterate my call that the Eagle Feathers would smother those bow ties because their butts were against the wall.

ODAC Standings after today's games:

Washington & Lee  4-1
Emory & Henry 3-1
Hampden-Sydney 3-2
Bridgewater 2-2
Guilford 2-2
Catholic 1-3
Randolph-Macon 0-4

This was a big win by Bridgewater over W&L today!  it was also a good win for Guilford, as it keeps them in the race for the ODAC title.  Unfortunately for Bridgewater, the Wasps victory over Catholic today eliminates the Eagles from another trip to the NCAAs.

W&L can go to the NCAA by winning next Saturday's game:

November 4, 2006
Emory & Henry @ Washington & Lee

Emory & Henry can go to the NCAAs by winning out:

November 4, 2006
Emory & Henry @ Washington & Lee

November 11, 2006
Guilford @ Emory & Henry

This is the scenario for Guilford to go to the NCAAs:

November 4, 2006
Bridgewater @ Randolph Macon
Catholic @ Guilford
Emory & Henry @ Washington & Lee

November 11, 2006
Bridgewater @ Catholic
Guilford @ Emory & Henry
Randolph Macon @ Hampden-Sydney

muchacho

Updated Standings

W&L - 4-1
E&H - 3-1
HSC - 3-2
GC - 2-2
BC - 2-2
CUA - 1-3
RMC - 0-4

The Wasps win and the Generals loss sets up a probable ODAC title game next week. Whoever wins that game should be the front runner for the conference crown. If W&L wins, they clinch. If E&H wins, they still need to beat Guilford in week 11 to finish as the only team with 1 loss.
A scenario with E&H beating W&L and Guilford beating E&H leaves the ODAC with 5 teams with 2 losses, assuming Catholic and Macon don't pull an upset in the last 2 weeks. I'll let somebody else figure out the tiebreaking scenarios.

Unfortunately for Bridgewater, the Wasps victory over Catholic today eliminates the Eagles from another trip to the NCAAs.

Check that.  Today's E&H win keeps BC from getting the ODAC bid to the playoffs.  There's is still a (very small) chance we finish 8-2 and get an at-large.

What that game does do is keep BC from earning a share of the ODAC title.  Even if BC finishes 4-2 along with W&L and E&H, then the Wasps would be the sole ODAC champs with wins over W&L and BC.

I'll be cheering for the Generals next week, because if they get the ODAC bid to the playoffs ... that'll help BC's (very small) chances at an at-large bid.  Not to mention our 8-2 season would sound a lot better if we can say we were the only team to beat the ODAC champs.
