I don't want WLU78 knocking me down so let me correct my previous post.

too should have been "two."

Quote from: Ron Boerger (BfB) on October 29, 2006, 10:29:09 AMIf folks expect professionalism, they also have to exhibit it.

Ron, you hit it on the head.

I can be blunt at times, but I have never once come out swinging at a person on these boards. When in doubt, I err on the side of caution. But at some point, what you give is what you get. We're all adults here, and I don't believe in the characterization that someone employed by the site has to act differently than the people he is in a discussion with. Perhaps it would be nice, but we're human.

My major flaw is a tendency to be consumed with discussions. I don't mind them at all, but I acknowledge that flaw by only coming to these boards to discuss specific issues. If I am engaged once I get here ... well, you see the results.

I even tried to stay away for a couple of days to be the bigger man and let it die down, but when I signed back in to fulfill a promise I made to check on something for you guys ... all I found was this discussion still going on.

Now,
for what I showed up to discuss.

I have not learned anything different than what the Harrisonburg DNR reported the other day. I'm assuming that link has been shared here, but for posterity's sake: http://www.dnronline.com/sports_details.php?AID=7074&CHID=3

I guess the issue is that Guilford didn't know it was using an ineligible player, and because of that, the NCAA will be handling the discipline phase. I can certainly see where that would be disappointing, especially since the transfer was from within the ODAC, and there may be an expectation that the Quakers would have known who they were dealing with and wondered why the player left the school he was previously at.

To be honest, most cases of an ineligible player are like some third-string member of the kickoff team. This involves a more prominent player than any case I can remember at any level. Usually it's some player who does not affect the outcome much who causes forfeits. This is definitely unusual in that the player was in position to affect the outcome and no forfeits are yet forthcoming.

Hasanova, thanks for your input on the Guilford mid-90s offense comparison. I had a lot of fun going up against those guys, I think they were the best skill kids I played against.

Llamaguy, regarding your post about the commissioner's office. I think your clarified points make sense, for the most part. Fair enough.

Quote from: hasanova on October 29, 2006, 09:32:24 AMVogelbach has got to lower the number of interceptions!  I know it's your alma mater, Keith, but if RMC was any good offensively they should have turned 5 picks, often deep in GC territory, into more than 2 FGs.  A much better offensive team would have made us pay big time!

I agree with you, Hasanova  Not turning those 5 picks into points made me want to ram my head into the nearest wall!! :P  Still, the Macon defense was very impressive.

K-Mack, our inability to find the endzone made me wish for Partlow and Chappell big time. :-[

JL,
You're a better man than me. At least you can go and watch.

Sounds like offense has been the issue lately, after it was defense in the Boone years. My personal opinion is that recruiting the mid-Atlantic and particularly Va. became much harder when CNU, Shenandoah and Averett joined the party, the same time Bridgewater and Hampden-Sydney began their rises to prominence. Since W&L, CUA and E&H have always recruited different types of kids and different areas, that leaves R-MC as the big recruiting loser over the years.

Although I was flipping through the '05 book last night for some Ted Keller/Stokely Fulton historical info for another story I am working on, and it looked like we had a nice freshman (now sophomore) class, and started getting back up into Maryland, Pa. and Jersey. We always had some talent from up that way when I played.

What's the deal with Waddell Howard? I did some search for something completely different a while back and discovered his name on a basketball prodigy message board saying "yeah, the guy ended up as a football player at some D3 Randolph something-or-other school in Va."

Yeah,
it can't be a very entertaining read from the outside.

Way to set an example, along with Ron, et. al. Most likely we'll realize we're being lame and follow.

Hey, Jacketlawyer.  I was wondering what you were thinking during the game.  Even though GC gave five picks to the Jackets, RMC's passing stats (with two QB's) sounded very, very anemic.  I'm sorry I didn't get to go to Ashland yesterday, but we discussed the reason why earlier.  I listened on a laptop yesterday afternoon after my commitment was over in the morning and then drove home last night.  With luck, you and I will get together at the basketball game in January - hope so!

Please no more ESPN highlights.

I believe it was Keith who called Matt's site " A rah,rah site" and infered this one was more professional.

I didn't mean that as a swipe and it didn't appear that Matt took it to be one, but now that you brought up how it looks, I have to clarify.

A "rah-rah" site serves a purpose same as a, let's call it a "bird's eye view" site does. Doesn't make one necessarily more professional or more important than the other. I expect to find different kinds of content on philadelphiaeagles.com than nfl.com, you understand? I frequent both sites, plus phillynews.com (although I try to avoid the boards there too), and all play a relevant role.

As far as personal swipes, I think they look worse to the outsider than they are. Pat, Matt and I have all worked together, all know each other (you too Llamaguy) and I wouldn't expect anything said here to change that, or go past the boards.

In other words, perhaps the true mark of a professional is to be able to agree to disagree, then move on.

Thank You for checking into the story K-mack! I've already thanked Pat. In hindsight I'm glad the DNR wrote the story as I know this site does have a working relationship with the NCAA, especially during the playoffs. I wouldn't want to be the cause of jeopordizing your coverage of playoff football due to a story that would tick the NCAA off. In the end I got exactly what was requested, a simple printed and factual explaination. Thanks again for what you guys did in retrieving the facts.

I see your point about the Rah,rah deal and I just took it the wrong way. ;)

We are cool on my end and I look forward to being able to hopefully feed you guys lunch prior to the 4pm Stagg Bowl start and listening to the D3football feed in the parkinglot at Stone Station. ;D

Now here's something worth talking about.

Although I may not be invited to Stone Station this year.  :'(

K-Mac,

Then why are you just now getting around to responding to a fight that I have not seen Matt post anything about since early Monday morning at the latest.  The rest of us on this board are trying to move on or at least discuss the Guilford case in light of the information that the DNR provided us with, but you simply will not let your fight with Matt die.  Can we please move on?

Two words with one sounding timbre!
Did I write in a "there"
When what's right is a "their"?
