FYI - I spoke with one of Guilford's coaches Sunday while we were both attending a cookout at a mutual friend's home.  He said WR Joe Joyner is coming back next fall to complete his eligibility (he can graduate next spring) and DB Taylor Baker plans to play football again after taking a year off.  He also said recruiting prospects for 2007 look "very good."   When you couple all these things with a relatively small number of graduating seniors (eight, I think), the outlook is very positive for Quaker football again next season.  Granted, losing Barnette, Rushing, Frazier, Smallwood, Fortier and others will be tough, but there is a lot of talent returning. The ODAC has definitely improved, but after going 5-5 and 6-4, I sincerely think the Quakers are poised for seven or more wins in 2007.

Yeah they will be good again next year and I believe that they are going to be able to get a ton of recruits in the off season. Barnette and Rushing are both unreplaceable but they will have to manage without them next year.

Also Joiner is just as good as all the other WR's on the team. He was just the last one to get the ball.

Hoping to make a Stagg bowl appearance myself, niece graduates from Radford at 1pm that day.  It will take some trickery, but I will try to make it for Llama's cooking.

I agree, Joyner is very good.  I see a lot of catches for Joe and Kevin Vaughn next season.  If Vogelbach can learn how to cut his Interceptions, I think he'll have a great season.  He improved a lot in that regard the last two games in November.

Well, I will agree that "hope springs eternal" in the offseason -  rebirth and "We'll get 'em next year!" and all that stuff - but some teams realistically know they'll be bad again next year and some teams know they should be good or better.  There is possibility (we all have it) and probability (only a few).  There is confidence, there is quarded optimism and there is false hope.  I think Guilford, for example, has moved along a spectrum from false hope (2004 and before) to guarded optimism (2005-06) to confidence (2007).  I think all fans, despite their outward posturing, introspectively know where their team belongs.  Don't you agree?  Peace

Yes, I do agree ... well said!

Here are my initial thoughts for 2007...

-Bridgewater: Around 30 seniors next season - anything but 10-0 and a playoff run will be a disappointment.

-Catholic: Only losing four seniors - if Ricca and Jacobs are healthy, they'll give anyone in the ODAC fits.

-Emory & Henry: Coach Montgomery's third recruiting class will help his style and system of play - they won't "surprise" BC or GC in '07.

-Guilford: If teams can continue to force Vogelbach into poor decisions, I don't see how the Quakers can improve.

-Hampden-Sydney: Likely will have to use just one QB - maybe putting Bobby Owens at RB or WR to confuse the opponents.

-Randolph-Macon: Phew, I mean what do you say? HC has gone from 3 to 2 to 1 to 0 ODAC wins the last four years.

-Washington & Lee: A more developed Varner with a Martin and Sitterson will make the Generals a favorite next season.

I think that Guilford needs to commit to the run in the offseason. They will be a better team with that. That is what made it easier for them to pass at the end of this season.

Congrats to all the all-conference players this year.

Agree on run.  Ditto on all-conference.  :)

Yeah, but are you going to be at the "cookout" (--read that --tailgate) that counts?  At the Stag Bowl with Stone Station?  It would be so great if you could come up and help us host the fans of the 2 teams who get the honor of playing in the Championship game!! ;D ;D ;D
