I cannot find any stats on Lynchburg's male:female ratio.

Adding another 80-100 men makes a nice contribution to their student body of 1839.

I didn't even realize their student body was that big.  But they do offer some graduate courses, and a nursing program, so I'm assuming the number includes those folks as well.

Perhaps...but I think a tough sell. PA is full of D3 schools. Not so many in NC but still a few. IMO, hard to get kids to to go several states away to go to school and play ball if there are options closer.

Thanks for articulating what I couldn't, allsky.  This is what I had in mind when I referred to the "watered-down" recruiting base.

I'm in straight commission sales Jacket. If I don't articulate, I drink the Beast or worse. If I do articulate, I drink Stone IPA or Brooklyn Brown.  ;D That's usually enough motivation right there.  :D Course, my gf and a few around here probably wish I articulated a little less.  ;D 8)
Speaking of LC and football. I didn't even realize they ever had football. Was it in 1914 or something?

Both Lynchburg and da 'Noke had football at one time, but it's been decades since either fielded a team.  Check any H-S football program which breaks down the all-time series against H-S (a school, I might add, which does a very good job with their athletic media guides).

Happen to have a 2005 H-SC / BC program on my coffee table. I know it has the all time records in there but don't think it says anything about the years played. I have been around/followed H-S football since the late 60's and they have not played LC during that time. Just got off the phone with my dad. He says they haven't had a team at least since he went to H-S in 1955.  8)

H-S is 8-3-1 against LC. As I suspected, there is no info in the program as to what years they played.

Lynchburg and HSC played every year from 1920 to 1931 (11 games)...Catholic and Lynchburg played 1 time (a tie game in 1924).

     1920-1931 = 12 games   ;)

12 it is (obviously not a math major).

Don't feel bad, I had to count three times before I decided it was twelve.  :o The H-S game program I have says the all time record is 8-3-1. I added 8+3+1=12 and actually only had to do that once.  ;D Don't guess the fate of the western world is in the balance over how many times the Hornets and Tigers have played. Will be interesting to see if LC actually brings football back. Get them and Roanoke on board and the ODAC is starting to look like one of those super conferences. And who knows, maybe Randolph will add a team a few years down the road. 8)

Fotunately you don't need to be a math major Norton. Just X's & O's, baby! Hope things are going well and you guys are getting all the pieces necessary for success in 2007.  ;)

May I amend that statement?

Yeah,
I agree with this. Supposedly there were 14,000 at the 100th RMC/HSC game, which would make it the best-attended Division III game to date, that I know of, but there's no way to know how close or far off that count is because it's a wide open stadium, in a bowl, where people can pitch a blanket on the grass hill and catch the game, and can walk in from any direction.

That said, having played in suited up for that game, there was a mean crowd roar that I don't think I've heard at any other D3 game ever.

I was at that game too. A bunch of people. 14k....I don't know. Just too hard to know for sure.  Ah, the good ole days. Keith, I hope your Jackets can get back on track. As much as I love a good Tiger W over the Jackets, it's just not good for the rivalry for it to be so one sided.  How about a string of one point Tiger W's? I could live with that.  ;D ;D

Yeah, it was the same way when I was playing. We pretty much used to beat that (expleteive deleted) to the point where I hated Emory & Henry more, because they actually stole a couple Ws from us.

able to give those 757 kids a chance at playing D1-AA ball

Wow -- there's a lot more scholarships at I-AA than I realized. :)

(hopes no one really thought that's what 757 stood for)

I don't know.

In the best years of the old ODAC, E&H got kids from Tennessee, Guilford obviously did from N.C., R-MC used to supplement with kids from Pa., Md. and N.J.

CUA has always drawn from areas with big Catholic influences, i.e. Philly, N.J., N.Y., etc.

Even though, with the new Va. schools and Bridgewater recruiting Tidewater and No. Va. really well (and probably SW Va. too), you'd think R-MC and the like would need to bring in more Pa. and Md. kids to fit the bill, anecdotally, that doesn't seem to be the case.

Florida kids are popping up on ODAC rosters though.

Anyway, I haven't done any research on this in a year and a half, so not sure how valid my points still are ...

At Maryville back in the mid 80's we had a bunch of guys from FL. More than any state except TN. GA was 3rd but I think a distant 3rd. Not many d3 options in FL is there?

Zero. And LaGrange is the first D3 in Georgia.

Of course, there's plenty of D2s and low-level 1s around that way, so ...

Seems to me I'm seeing more players from GA and FL on the R-M roster than ever before.

Did you see the attendance numbers for LaGrange College in their first year?  Tell me there isn't a market for DIII football in GA!!

There's a market for anything football in Georgia.

As far as the R-MC roster, I do see the Florida attempts ... I don't know. Whatever they're doing isn't working, and it might not be the fault of the coaches, since Arruza is reportedly very much unlike Boone, and still the results aren't much different.

Dare I say ... Bring back Riccio & Waters? :)
