I can see a coach not wanting that to happen, but I know Coach Clark doesn't hold back players because of that.

For the last six or so years, we have scrimmaged Hargrave Military Academy' post graduate team.  They always have 20 to 30 kids who have committed to Division I-A schools, but needed a year to get their academics straight.  So we've lined up against kids who will be playing at Auburn, USC, Oklahoma, etc., in years to come.  Huge kids.  But Clark sends all our best players out there against them.  And this year, our starters played a full quarter and a half.  We led 21-7 once our 2s and 3s started going in (we ended up "winning" 27-13).

Point being, Clark almost puts our players in harms way by scrimmaging a team with 6-foot-6, 325-lb defensive linemen or 6-foot-2, 225-lb tailbacks.  But it's a great way for our players to see size and speed we won't see all season.

Just keep telling yourself that, eventually you will beleive it.

Sorry Snake, I have to believe it, as I have seen it first hand both 38 years ago and in modern times as well.  Not all coaches will do this, but there are some who will hold back on guys that are returning and they know what they can do, plus I have seen them put in for one play, wear different numbers and the team only run basicly 3 plays the entire scrimmage for fear of giving away information. It happens trust me. Again, not all coaches but enough to go on record and say it is done. And I will say this, for those that won't admit, they are blowing smoke up your butt.

QB's were protected... wore "red" shirts. No one was allowed to hit them for any reason.... so I don't think the QB was held out of the scrimmage for fear of injury. Again, I have no idea why he didn't play but he didn't .

I've been reading all over the board this week about healthy kids being held out of scrimmages.

Never been a coach, so get that thought out of your head.

Thought didn't cross my mind. What did cross my mind is that you are trying to blow smoke up our butts.

You're entitled to your opinion, but saying things that aren't true in front of 100's of eyes is not my thing. But any rate, this has been an interesting discussion and we have had fun with it. Hope your team (whom ever that is) does well and maybe someday we will have a chance to meet and continue this discussion.

Guys

Easy with Kickerdad, he is exactly right.... some coaches will not play certain kids during a scrimmage for the reasons he has stated. The coach at your school may or may not, that really is not the point.

Good luck to all ODAC schools this coming weekend !!!!

Snakehandler: Just because it doesn't happen at Bridgewater doesn't mean it can't happen elsewhere, man.

I doubt the Averett kicker's dad would be trying to blow smoke up your butt about a Hampden-Sydney player. He's just offering a non-Bridgewater perspective, which, as I mentioned above, is similar to my experience. It might be worth considering that schools hold players out of scrimmages.

That's preposterous!!

I'm sure there was another reason.

Hey, TFA.  Did you make any travel plans to Greensboro for Sept.  22?  Let me know if you need anything.

I second TFA's best wishes to all the ODAC squads this weekend!  Good luck!

Guilford's opening opponent, SVU, already has a win under their belt on the 25th, but I don't know how strong Kentucky Wesleyan is.  I know SVU won 42-35 on the road with a last second TD pass.  I also know KW was 0-11 last season.   I would think Guilford is favored, but it is a road game and that one game advantage can be a plus.  Anyone have any insight on SVU?  Thanks.

David Letterman's Top Ten Reasons why HSC kept their starting QB and RB out of the CNU scrimmage.

#10  They took a day trip to shop for sport coats
#9    Overheard CNU during pregame talking about cheap shotting the star players
#8    Must think they will blow through JHU, they can use that game as a warm up
#7    They are holding out for plaid uniforms
#6    Hang nail
#5    Thought it was a road game, last saw them tanning at Va Beach
#4    Saw a guy that looked like Reggie Jackson in the stands, thought it might be Kmack scouting for RMC
#3    They didn't make weight
#2    Could'nt find their skirts
And the number one reason is........
That's Marty ball baby!!!

Man, I can sure tell it's only days away from Kick-off.  Given the tone of these recent posts we need it!

Good Luck to all my Stone Station Brethren.  I'm sorry to say I won't be in attendance.  I'll be in route to Holden Beach with plans to set up my own Stone Station @ Holden.  Me and they guy I'm going with are Bridgewater Football Alumni so we'll be flying the Eagle flag along with the mini Stone Station Flag.  Cooking and Drinking all week long.

I'll see all come Sept. 15th.  Pork BBQ is on the menu!!!!!

Have not made final plans yet but will do so very soon. I met a young man this past summer ... will be a freshman DE at SVU this year. Impressive looking athlete ... 6'2'' about 250lbs... runs 4.8 forty.... however I think he is an exception not the norm. SVU should struggle this year but watch out for them a couple of years down the road . He attended a f'ball camp at the University of Maryland that my oldest was attending.  My son says he is the real deal.
