Not only are you usually the higher seed at home, you also get the benefit of a clock that doesn't always work properly (Rowan @ BC - 2001) as well as multiple phantom pass interference calls in OT until the home team finally scores (BC @ W&J - 2004).

The other benifit of playing at home in the playoffs for football is the week's practice schedule.  Most playoff road trips take all day friday with the road team looking to squeze time for walk throughs in their travel schedule.  The home team can go about normal schedule.  Let's face it, the shortest playoff road trip that Bridgewater has ever taken was to CNU, approximately four hours away.  I will not count the Stagg Bowl because that was technically a neutral site.  Even CNU would have been an overnight trip, which would effect the week's practice timetable.

Where is what I know. Playoff victories appear to a have a pretty strong correlation to Home vs. Road contests.  BC is 6-1 at home, 4-5 on the road.   If you go back and take a hard look at those playoff games, it would not be a stretch to say that being at home had a direct effect on the outcomes of at least 5 of BC's playoff games. 3 W's  at home and 2 L's on the road.

If you want to advance in the playoffs you must have home games.  BC will not get home games if they have an in-region loss.

Except for UMHB in 2004  ;D  :o

I still remember sitting on my computer listing to UMHB upset Mount Union in the snow at Mount Union.  That was an amazing game.   :)

And it appears I was wrong.  I sent a quick email to one of my former professors and he informed me that the enrollment numbers are right at 940.  Apparently there has been quite some turnover in the upper classes and not as many freshman showed up as expected.  Overall, Emory had budgeted for over 350 new students and only got 270 frosh, plus about 40 transfers.  I guess the hype from the spring was just that.

a good friend of mine who still works on campus said that the number was just over 900, so it looks like this information is accurate. UVA Wise getting so many kids from the coalfields at a lower cost has really hurt enrollment. Imagine what numbers would be if Montgomery did not have 125 freshmen coming in for football each year  :o

WC Legacy,
You know how to pick the right games to attend. There will be no burgers or brats at those games, just A-list menus. Skoaltrain is rolling out his 12hr slowcooked pork bbq for Ferrum and I will be hauling the grill to HSC for some SS Bbq chicken! :o

Awesome! I spoke with my doctor, and he said it's OK for me to cheat on my all-burger-and-brat diet -- at least once or twice  :D

2.7 seconds. An average football player may need more time to score; a great one finds a way. I've seen greatness happen.

Just curious.....did the Bridgewater College administration, staff, football team, alumni association, board of trustees, or some other covert Bridgewater College secret society assign the officials for the games in question or any other NCAA playoff game?  :-\

Snakehandler once said on these boards, "it won't matter if you're prepared for the playoffs if you don't make them."  That happened to CNU in 2005.

Ya, but by that rationale does it matter if you make the playoffs if you aren't prepared for them?  And CNU not making the playoffs wasn't because of their ooc schedule.  But regardless I'm sure Clark will have them ready for each and every game this year, including the playoffs if they make it!  They looked good Saturday so I'm just excited about a great season and hoping there isn't a huge letdown if they play a really strong playoff team.
There are teams that will no longer play us, so Coach has to search to find a team for a couple of years contract.

I remember those brownies... They did help to take just a little bit of the pain from losing the Stagg Bowl.  As much as brownies can cheer you up after a game like that anyways.

You may remember that Bridgewater lost the second game in question on a several poor calls (and Higgison's prevent defense that prevented Bridgewater from stopping W&J).  The point was that while bad calls do even out throughout a team's playoff history, they seem to have a greater impact on the road team.

Hey, Trenches.  Good to see you posting.  What Quaker games do you think you'll make this fall?  I bought two season tickets for the new seats and plan to be at Methodist this Saturday and at the Greensboro game on the 29th (not much of a road trip lol).  I didn't go to SVU and probably will not go to DC to see CUA on Nov. 3 (but I haven't completely ruled it out).  I have so many things going on in the fall with other commitments, even going to BC on Oct. 13 is looking a little "iffy."  I want to go, but my youngest son is a Senior at Mars Hill and he wants me there for their Homecoming.  Since I've never been to a game at MHC during his time as a student (he's not a football player lol), I guess it's now or never!

The numbers you throw up for the MU game are interesting.  I think Guilford will win for a number of reasons:

- The Quakers have already played one game on the road.
- Josh Vogelbach.
- WR Joe Joyner is back.
- WR Kevin Vaughn and others are coming on strong.
- There was some semblance of a rushing game last week.
- No Guilford injuries of which I am aware.
- The Defense for Guilford has more upperclassmen who've been playing together for a few years.
- Uncertainty at QB for MU.

With Travis Frazier graduated, I noticed some chinks in the kicking game last week (2 of 6 on PAT's) which forced four attempts at 2-points on other TD's (but three were successful).  I know MU is better than SVU, but I'm going to predict 34-17 Quakers with Guilford getting 4 TD's in the air and 1 on the ground.  Gee, I hope I'm right!  I hope to see you at some games this fall.
