Quote from: Trenches on September 08, 2007, 09:51:07 PMglad you got to see vogs play. even if you are on the opposing sidelines, he still makes you appreciate his talent.
i am, too...it's one thing to read about the kid on this site, but honestly, he was better than i anticipated...and i had pretty high expectations - he's by far the best d3 quarterback i've ever seen play in person (i only saw elliott and adamson on tv, so they don't count) - i felt like i was watching our version of peyton manning...he's so calm and poised and he makes the right reads and releases the ball quick...he's a stud!

by the way, i'm watching the springfield/union game on d3cast right now...it's GREAT, and the sharpe kid is a pretty impressive qb, as well :)

I like your manning comparison... like manning he spreads it out, but even more so he reads defenses so well and can adjust plays, routes, etc... according to what's in front of him. Good arm but more importantly accurate and smart.

Good weekend for the ODAC in out of conference games. Pretty amazing how HSC's results changed from week 1 to week 2. Marty Ball is still alive.

Pretty great to see the bottom feeders from the last few years both start their seasons 2-0. RMC has Frostburg (0-1) next weekend, while Catholic has McDaniel (0-2). Both teams look to have good shots of winning next weekend, which will set up a matchup of 3-0 teams when Catholic hosts the Jackets on September 22nd. I think its great for the conference when the 6th and 7th in the preseason poll have such a great start. However, with everybody else in the conference winning so far, I don't think this means the standings in the conference will necessarily change much.

I thought BC would handle Shenandoah better. It looks like the Hornets played tough D like they did against Catholic last weekend. Any info from those at the game as to how either team played?

Record watch
Vogelbach has set many game, season, individual, and team records but here are a few big career numbers he's coming up on...

Career ODAC records in:
pass att - 121 away (2-3 games)
pass comp - 16 away (1 game)
pass yards - 862 away (2-3 games)
pass tds - 10 away (2-3 games
int thrown - 4 away (1-3 games)

He's avg. over 363 pass yd/game and 3.6 pass tds/game through his career thus far.

Hopefully he can put two rings on his hand before he's done as well.  ;)

Bridgewater fumbled in the red zone 3 times or it could have easily been a wider spread.  I didn't think they played with much emotion tonight.  SU's nose guard controlled our inside running game for a good bit of the game, but we broke a few nice runs up the middle.  Highfill was something like 14 for 19 passing for 2 TD's with no picks.  He played hard and ran the ball well.  We had a little trouble controlling the edges on D and the tackling was not good at times.  SU had a long, pound it out TD drive in the 2nd half that kept our D on the field a long time.  Campo came up with a big INT in the second half on a later drive.  I think that lead to Carter's TD run of 10 yds.

We will find out how good the Tigers are over the next few weeks. "Marty Ball" with a defensive performance like yesterday could be a very dangerous thing.  ;) GO TIGERS!!

Good morning, Narch.  You could be right on the long TD pass to Doleman.  I just felt the GC DB gambled he could make the INT instead of going back more in coverage.  He might have been beaten even if he'd stayed back, but either way, that play made for exciting football!

Yes, it was a beautiful day for football - and offensive football at that.  It was definitely exciting!  I wore a sleeveless T-shirt and my right arm is completely red - my body shielded my left arm a bit!  lol  Other than a few fire ants in that grassy strip between the rows of seats, it was a perfect football day.  I was in the roped off section for visitors - sorry I missed seeing you.  We should have exchanged cell phone numbers!

The two GC offensive plays you cited were noted by me as well.  The guy sitting next to me had never seen Vogelbach play and he questioned the 4th and 10 call in an otherwise obvious FG attempt situation.  I told him, based on my knowledge of Vogelbach and his receivers and the young Quaker kicking game, the odds were actually higher with a Vogelbach pass.  When it went for a TD, I - and the GC coaching staff - looked pretty smart.  I bet the coaches make that call almost every time this year.  Finally, on the game ending possession where Vogelbach threw a pass for about 15 yards and a first down, I have to admit that one caught me off-guard, but I think it did the MU Defense as well.  You have to think almost any team will keep it on the ground in a situation like that, but it worked and gave the Quakers a new first down!  From there, the game was essentially over.  Again, it is a tribute to the confidence they have in Vogelbach, his OL and and his receivers.

You're right - Hill is hopefully the best RB we'll face this year.  What a talent! He got four TD's and a lot of yardage, so I feel fortunate to win.  Vogelbach is very special too.  I've seen a lot of DIII QB's come and go, but his control of the game is masterful.  By the time he's done, the Guilford, ODAC and many NCAA records will be totally rewritten.  He's passed (81) and run (6) for 87 TD's in 22 games - that's almost 4 per game and he only seems to be getting better.  Wow!

You're welcome, Trenches.  See you next Saturday night.  I bought reserved seat season tickets, so I'll be in the new section in front of the press box.

Quote from: MoveDaChains on September 06, 2007, 02:57:40 PMHey, any Guilford fans have news on Mike Six? I knew he had a great year last year and was an Honorable Mention All-American yet no stats in the Southern VA game. Anyone know his situation? Thanks!
Someone close to the Guilford football program told me yesterday that Mike Six will be back next Saturday versus Averett.  He's not hurt, but was required to sit the first two games.  I'm glad the Quakers won both games without him, but Mike will be a welcome addition the rest of the season!

E & H vs. NCW in Rocky Mount  should be a tough one this Saturday.
Stay tuned!!

How 'bout them Jackets? Looks like we are seeing our signs, jacket lawyer!

Now if I ever finally meet Pedro, he'll think I'm a big ol' frontrunner. Par for the course though, everyone's your friend when you're winning.

(gets R-MC gear out of closet, un-books trip to Cortaca Jug for The Game week.)

Maybe I'm getting a little ahead of myself.

Very glad to see it, K-Mack.  Feels like old times.  Good old times.  I'm trying not to get too far ahead of myself either, but I'm really enjoying it. ;)

Hey Llama,

thanks for the updates during the game. Ours got ugly right before halftime......46 seconds left in second qt and it's 17-7 UMHB and I'm thinking, we had a rough 2nd qt, but it's still respectable and close......46 seconds later it's 30-17......fat ladies were singing everywhere!!

Hey man, we all experience it once in a while, but the experience of the trip must have been great. The trip alone is something you will remember for a Long time to come. Good luck on the rest of the season, except when you play NCWC. Should be a good one. Glad you made it back safely.

Did you see any HS football while you were there?
