It looks like the ODAC may have another member very soon. As I wrote in the USAC side....
The clock maybe ticking down for the Hornets being in the USAC. President Davis in today's SU school paper wrote in his column that at the next ODAC meeting of school presidents he will make a formal request to join the conference. Many here have thought this would happen. It has been no secret that SU has always wanted to get in the ODAC from day one of the football program. Chances are this will happen. Its just when is the only question.

I foresee contention amongst schools with flying, stinging insects as mascots... maybe there could be a Buzz Challenge or Vespidae Clash sort of like the Commander In Chief's Cup between Yellowjackets, Hornets and Wasps.  ::)

You know we already have Hornets, right? In other sports.

In fact, first Hornets to put a football team in the ODAC gets to keep the name.

I don't know if Shenandoah is a need for the ODAC, but it's a pretty good fit geographically and by school profile.

Small, liberal arts, by tuition, sports offered, etc.: See http://www.su.edu/pr/SU_stats.asp

If we've learned nothing in the past two days (see NAC and Empire 8 ), it's that every seven-team football conference is one unexpected defection away from possibly losing its automatic bid. And with some teams perpetually rumored to be leaving the ODAC, it would be a wise way for it as a football conference to hedge its bets.

The bigger questions there are really where does the USAC go from losing Shenandoah, should that take place (see Ralph Turner's previous posts about some of them joining the Great South, which most football followers have never heard of), and is it a good fit for the ODAC in sports besides football.

The ODAC already has Lynchburg, Roanoke, Randolph, Hollins, Sweet Briar and maybe even some I'm forgetting as non-football schools.

Personally I always thought Lynchburg and Roanoke would make good football schools, with them being in areas where HS football is really popular (therefore figuring there would be enough recruiting to sustain the programs) and them being small enough to need the male enrollment shot in the arm, and with them having City Stadium and Salem Stadium as possible options for home fields until they could build on-campus stadiums (or even if they couldn't)

When Randolph, nee RMWC, makes the co-ed move, football might very well make sense there too to boost male enrollment. (and if it can be received at Shenandoah, it can go over at RMWC). I guess they would have the same City Stadium option. Not sure if their campus is boxed in or has the room to add football fields ... pretty sure Jacket Lawyer and I and some others had this conversation in the preseason.

Already made the move. Met two of their male students today. One a FR and the other a transfer JR.  8)

Thanks, olinemom.  We have to keep rooting for all the ODAC teams until conference play begins!  With the game versus Averett being the first night game on campus in Guilford's history, I'm very curious to see what the crowd and overall atmosphere will be.  :)  I personally think it's going to be great - about the only thing that could make it better would be a guest appearance by Stone Station about 4 pm!  lol  Enjoy Oregon - a beautiful state - I have a sister who lives in Salem and I've been fortunate enough to see Mt. Hood, Crater Lake, the Three Sisters, the Columbia River Gorge, Bend, the Oregon coast, etc. .. awesome!  I also went across the border to Seattle, Mt. Rainier and other Washington venues.  These two states are among my favorites!  Peace

Good luck to BC today. Stone Station guys - have a blast, as usual!! I'll be seeing you guys at some point this year.

Looks like E&H was out muscled  today. We must have forgotton we are "BIGGER and STRONGER" this year. As Arnold used to say," we need to get pumped up". Let's get back to the basics....BLOCKING and TACKLING.Four turnovers will not win you many games, especially late in the 4th qtr.
It's going to be a long season for the Wasp's if they keep making turnovers.

Great posts over the last few days.
With 5,000 students and a growing school, CNU seems like a I-AA fit. Salisbury(7,000) and Rowan (8,000) are the two schools I know of that are most similar in D3. Maybe Pat or Keith would have a link to the D3 schools with the highest enrollments. Those schools definitely have a natural advantage, and Salisbury and Rowan have very successful D3 athletic programs.

No Guilford-Averett updates?  Sad.

Guess: Vogelbach has thrown for 14 touchdowns and 1,329 yards in the first quarter.

My name is Bryan Jones and I am the Coordinator of Sports Marketing at Guilford.

The Guilford Quaker Network has been knocked off the air and it is NOT OUR FAULT.  Stretch Internet's networks have gone down and they trying to restore it.

It is now Guilford 32, Averett 7.

elonguilford

Averett's webcast is also down as they use Stretch.  Every Stretch Webcast is down.

Guilford 40, Averett 7

Vogelbach to Miller 34 yard TD pass.

6 Touchdown passes for Vogelbach.

Averett looks very sloppy.

Matt,

Bradshaw says hi and he says you shouldn't make up lies and put words in Wakefield's mouth.   ;D

Guilford 40, Averett 13

50 yard pass play from Fairbanks to Williams.

Still off the air on the Guilford Quaker Network.

Our deepest apologies for the technical issue, but it isn't our fault.

Looks like the ODAC will go 4-2 for the weekend with Guilford passively beating Averett Thats another good weekend despite 2 close losses by the Wasps and the Jackets.

BC finally put up a score which I expect out of them 41-16.
HSC put up 35, but gave up 33 to an 0-3 Kings team. I figure the offense is still there, but don't know what to think of them as a team yet.
Catholic is 3-0, but their opponents don't have any wins on the year yet. Margin of victory hasn't been more than a TD either.
RMC lost a close one to Frostburg. FSU was 0-1 coming in, and appeared to run all over the Jackets. RMC's victory over Hopkins looks less impressive after Gettysbrug drubbed the Jays 41-10.
EHC made mistakes (-4 TO differential) to a good team, and still lost by just 4. Is their passing game that bad, or will they put this behind them.

Next weeks ODAC matchups look good. RMC-CUA might show who will bring up the rear in the conference. Each team will look to make a statement.
HSC-GC will be an offensive feast most likely. The season is definitely heating up!

Into the fourth......40-13 Guilford over Averett.

Stretch Internet is working on our problems and we WILL be back on on the air at some point tonight.
