Looks like E&H was out muscled  today. We must have forgotton we are "BIGGER and STRONGER" this year. As Arnold used to say," we need to get pumped up". Let's get back to the basics....BLOCKING and TACKLING.Four turnovers will not win you many games, especially late in the 4th qtr.
It's going to be a long season for the Wasp's if they keep making turnovers.

E&H DAD

Were you there today because the game I watched Emory outmuscled the Bishops.

We average 5 yards per rush and NCWC averaged 2. Some blown coverages when #7 was scrambling and some bad breaks cost the Waspers this win.

Looks like the ODAC will go 4-2 for the weekend with Guilford passively beating Averett Thats another good weekend despite 2 close losses by the Wasps and the Jackets.

BC finally put up a score which I expect out of them 41-16.
HSC put up 35, but gave up 33 to an 0-3 Kings team. I figure the offense is still there, but don't know what to think of them as a team yet.
Catholic is 3-0, but their opponents don't have any wins on the year yet. Margin of victory hasn't been more than a TD either.
RMC lost a close one to Frostburg. FSU was 0-1 coming in, and appeared to run all over the Jackets. RMC's victory over Hopkins looks less impressive after Gettysbrug drubbed the Jays 41-10.
EHC made mistakes (-4 TO differential) to a good team, and still lost by just 4. Is their passing game that bad, or will they put this behind them.

Next weeks ODAC matchups look good. RMC-CUA might show who will bring up the rear in the conference. Each team will look to make a statement.
HSC-GC will be an offensive feast most likely. The season is definitely heating up!

EHC's passing game is not that bad.  2 of the interceptions were off of a tipped ball.   We were without #82 today in the passing game.  The heartbreaker was the fumbled snap the NCWC recovered late in the game.

And the kickoff that we recovered and they gave the ball to NCWC.

Trenches

hey all... just got in from the guilford game... quick breakdown.. i'm sure hasa has more... but:

Final
GC  47
AU  13

Vogs - 7 tds (out of the game early in the fourth.. may have been all of the fourth)
Joe Joyner - 3 TDs
Kevin Vaughn - 2 TDs
Hagen Miller - 1 TD
Chad Kastor - 1 TD

They ran the ball alot more than expected. Ran pretty well too; gashed out some good chunks.
D played well for the most part. Good pressure... Got beat for a 49 yd score on 3rd and 38! Pretty bad play, DB just never came out of his back peddle. Other than that, looked pretty good. Mario Paylor had a couple sacks as the D got good pressure all night. Couple a few late turnovers as well.
2nd string was in for most of the 4th Quarter. Almost scored once more on a long run (about 50 yards to the 2)... but the same RB coughed up the ball on the next play at the 1.
That's all for now. Can't wait till next Sat against HSC. Should be a good one.

I expect you to be saving gas money to come up to BC for the big game. But you can leve you know who back in Greensboro.  I think he is going to give me grey hair should he come!!!!  Just kidding about #16.  He is amazing!!  But I'm not kidding about you coming up.  We came down there and brought the whole shebang.  Now we expect you, Hasa and the rest to come on up to BC and party at Stone Station and enjoy the game (I might not enjoy that part too much!!).  I leave Oegon for VA tomorrow.  Congrats on the win tonight.  How was the crowd for the first night game?  I hope it went fantastic!!!

Good evening.  I enjoyed tonight's Quaker victory over the Cougars, but I've been unable to post until now.  I saw Trenches tonight and he gave a pretty good recap, but I have a few things I'll add.

First, to answer olinemom's question, a pretty good atmosphere and crowd under the lights at Armfield.  A reasonable turnout as well on the AU side, so I'd like to thank them for coming.  The official boxscore says 1950 attended - I would have guessed 2500 - but not sure how everyone gets counted.  :)  If the Quakers keep playing this well, I think future crowds will be very good.

Vogelbach was his usual self - 7 TD passes - of 2, 11, 13, 63, 30, 34 and 38 yards.  Josh was a very efficient 28 of 37 for 360 yards with NO interceptions.  Guilford has finally developed some semblance of a running game - 169 yards on 34 carries.  That may not sound like a big deal, but defenses cannot key on the passing game every play as in seasons past.  Guilford should have scored an 8th TD after rushing to a 1st and Goal at the 2, but the reserves fumbled on the next play.  Eiland (59), Bobak (58), Cooper (45) and Parker (19) all carried the ball well for the Quakers.  Vogelbach was sacked twice tonight (a minor concern), so his -12 yards deflated the rushing total from 181 to 169.  I might also add that WR Hagen Miller threw a beautiful 32 yard option pass that increased the total GC passing yards to 392.  It certainly helps that Miller was the QB for NC state 1A champion Elkin HS.  :)

Incredibly, Vogelbach now has 19 passing TD's and one rushing score in three games in 2007.  For his 23 game Guilford career, he now has 88 passing TD's and 6 rushing TD's.  If this continues, he will probably (and perhaps ironically) surpass J. D. Ricca's ODAC mark of 91 passing TD's against the Tigers next Saturday.  Vogelbach is the first Guilford QB to top 8000 yards (8131) and he is 681 of 1141 for his still young career.  It's just amazing to watch!  I have to tell you he seems to have matured a lot since last season and is making better decisions.  He did not rush any throws tonight and smartly ran out of bounds a few times instead of forcing something into coverage.  It was perhaps the best game I've seen him play in terms of overall field savvy.  To address Trenches' question, Vogelbach's 7th TD came on the 2nd play of the 4th Quarter, so #16 sat out the last 14:46 of the game.  I think if he'd stayed in the game he could have easily gotten 1 or 2 more.

To me, Guilford is a more mature team than last year and AU is rebuilding.  With that said, however, it was nice to get a win versus the Cougars.  For the GC Seniors, Averett was one of only two teams they'd played they'd never beaten - HSC is the other and they're on the schedule next Saturday.  The Defense looked better, but gave up a few big plays (49 yard TD pass on 3rd and 38 - give me a break!) and a 58 yard kickoff return to start the 2nd half.  Other than those plays, a nice performance by the Offense, Defense and Special Teams.  Congratulations, by the way, to Adam Irving for his two interceptions tonight!

See you next week versus Hampden-Sydney!  Congratulations to BC, HSC and CUA for today's other ODAC wins and better luck to the Wasps and Jackets next week.  By my count, this leaves the ODAC 15-3 in nonconference games.  I'm also looking forward to seeing W&L back in action next week!  Peace

From Nova "For the GC Seniors, Averett was the only team they'd played they'd never beaten."

That is the first time I have heard that since 1999 and it sounds good for the boys. I know some seniors never beat BC or HSC from the 02 class and that blew. I am happy for those new Graduate Assistants being able to be around winners.

BC 3-0 CUA 3-0 GC-Q 3-0 Bowties 1-0. Its crowded up there.

Thanks, abnrgr.  I wish you could've been there last night.  It felt like a big-time game.   I should clarify one thing about who the GCQ Seniors have not beaten.  HSC is still on that list, but they'll get a shot at them this Saturday night.   A parent of one of the players gave me the Averett quote above, but I shouldn't have used it without doing my own research!  Either way, however, a very nice win.

Gettysburg has the best offense that  I have seen so far, but only the second game I have been to. Between Flynn (QB) and Sturgis they have a very strong ground game and a very good passing attack. The Defense sacked Hopkins quaterbacks 3 times. Yes Hopkins used 4 different men at that position. Gettysburg, to me so far, looks like the team to watch our for.

Guilford 40, Averett 7

Vogelbach to Miller 34 yard TD pass.

6 Touchdown passes for Vogelbach.

Averett looks very sloppy.

First things first, congrats to Guilford College. They played a extremely well last night. They seem to be clicking on all cyclinders right now. Also your facility is first class and we enjoyed everything. The people were extremely friendly and helpful. Couple of guys from the Fest Event Staff wanted to cop an attitude, but overall great folks.

I hope I don't offend anyone with what I am about to say, Vogelbach is a good QB, but bottom line, without that offensive line and those receivers he would be just another average QB. The line gives him protection longer than most QB's have. Averett only got close to him 2 or 3 times all night. The receivers are fast and have the instinct to find the opening. So please when you are passing condo's for Vogelbach, make sure you talk about his line and rreceivers. He should be taking them all to Outback steak.

Finally, Olongguilford made reference to Averett being sloppy. That was being kind. They played like 2nd string high school players. They didn't move, hit, run, think...nothing. Dunlevy was quoted in the Danville newspaper that the coaches didn't do their job in getting the players ready. That may be true on some things but the coaches can't go on the field and play for them.  Hopefully he can perform some magic before the first conference game in two weeks. Only problem is we jump right out of the fry pan and into the fire next week with W&L.  Pray for us, we may not win a game this year if something doesn't change.

Good luck to Guilford the rest of this year and see you in Danville next year. Hopefully we will be able to offer more competition then.

Matt,

Bradshaw says hi and he says you shouldn't make up lies and put words in Wakefield's mouth.   ;D

LOL! Matt wasn't even around when I got your text and he was definitely the one who replied to Bradshaw. Old teammates!  :o What can I say?

Keep chugging along ODAC! All these non-conference W's equate to a higher QOWI for whomever comes out near the top of the ODAC. Atleast in BC's case, I wish the non-conf. teams were doing as well. 0-3 ,0-3 ,1-2

Uh oh ... here comes Hasanova :)

I do think his success is 51-percent because of the system.  Short, quick passes – very athletic receivers in the open field.  You don't need a great offensive line to do that.  I will say that the nine guys on offense (other than Vogelbach and the person who caught the ball) do an excellent job blocking so the ballhandler can gain yards.

So yes, Vogelbach is a good Division III quarterback, but the system he is in allows him to standout.  I know he's only a junior, and he's already beaten good teams (W&L in '05, BC in '06), but until Guilford can win more than six games, they're just numbers.

I'm sure he'll be the first to admit that, and this year could very well be the year they get over the hump.  They host three of the four toughest ODAC opponents (W&L, H-SC, E&H), and they have started 3-0 for the first time since 1999.

Sad thing is, Ferrum, McDaniel, and Shenandoah, were playoff teams in 2005, 2001, and 2004, respectively.

At any rate, 3-0 against easy opponents is better than 1-2 (Christopher Newport) against tough opponents.  The Captains will likely have to win the rest of their games to be able to use their "battle-tested" experience in the playoffs.
