Ok... quick breakdown...
Final
GC 49
HSC 56

I give credit to HSC... they came to play. However..... Guilford lost this game on its own.
Josh simpson had a hell of a game... on basically two plays (dive and bounce).
I'll tell you why GC lost this game on its own:
1) Defense. Simple. Got beat on two run plays and the corners looked like they couldn't cover anyone. Add in poor tackling and you let up 35 in the first half and 56 total
2) Kick return cover... just like the run game. very simple. run it up and bounce it out. It was unbelievable.
3) Playing as a team... Guilford moved the ball and scored well for most of the game at the same time the D got walked all over. The 4th quarter was different though.... Although GC scored... they also gave up a very easy interception (underthrown into triple coverage) at the goaline and seemed not all there at times, meanwhile the D finally got a few stops and only let up one score.

Like I said, I give credit to HSC for playing all the way through but if you were at the game you know that GC shot itself in the foot the whole way though. You can disagree all you want, but we both know the deal.

PS. Not that it's important, but Vogelbach set the all time ODAC TD record in the first half... I believe he finished with 7 total TD's (6 passing, 1 rushing) to account for all 7 scores (hasa, correct me if i'm wrong on that). Is that 25 passing through 4 games (plus 2 rushing)? Once again, I could be off, but it's around that.

PPS. Nice job by the GC punter. Had a really good game. Well placed kicks. Both punters did well really.

Josh Simpson scored 7 touchdowns against Guilford for a new Hampden-Sydney record.

Corey Sedler continues to impress, completing 25 of 32 passes.

Each team gained over 600 offensive yards and the two teams together scored 105 points.

Tigers win their 3rd in a row, and are averaging 48 points a game over their last 3 outings.

H-SC v GC is like playing EA Sports NCAA.

1,353 total yards of offense in this year's (video) game.  As good as these offenses are, looks like both defenses were nonexistent.

How about H-SC's Josh Simpson's first game back ... 207 yards on 36 carries.  Sydney looks very balanced this year.

no, thats the sad part. 36 carries and 28 of them were prob dive or bounce. Throw in a couple sweeps and you got yourself 206 yards and 7 tds.

Congrats to RMC for going 1-0 in the ODAC. It looks like Catholic gave the game away, and the Jackets took advantage.
CUA had 4 drives in a row end with interceptions, and 2 of those picks went for Macon scores.
Its great to outgain your opponent by 150 yards, buts its impossible to win with a -5 TO differential in just one game!

First, congratulations to the Tigers.  They won because they made fewer mistakes. Trenches gave a good recap, so I won't add much more.

Second, Guilford gave HSC a short field all night long.  I cannot count the number of times we missed the return man and let him get deep into GC territory (I'm talking 30 yard line!).  No wonder they set a record for return yardage and scored eight TD's!

Third, I think the interception at the two-yard line or so late in the first half was key.  Instead of scoring to tie the game at 28 heading to the half, we then allow HSC to march down the field and score as time expired in the first half to take a 35-21 lead.  Maddening!

Yes, Vogelbach set a new ODAC record with 592 yards passing in this game and he did throw six TD passes and he did score one on a bootleg.  This gives him 25 passing and two rushing for the year and 94 passing (new ODAC record) and seven rushing for his career, but we lost!  I was very impressed with HSC's Offense, but thoroughly dismayed with Guilford's Defense and Special Teams.  If you score 49, you ought to win!

It's the same old story, starting the ODAC at 0-1.  That's what happens when you lose to the same team in your ODAC opener 8 years in a row.  I honestly hoped this would be the year we broke the hex, but it wasn't.  Again, congratulations to the Tigers, but I want to see Guilford develop a complete team - right now, we aren't.

Hey, Jacketlawyer.  Congratulations to the Jackets for a road win to start the ODAC season!  Looks like the sting is back!  :)

My thoughts exactly.  I was sure the Quakes would get it done this year.  I did a double-take when I saw the score.  Thought for sure it was a typo.

Sounds as if it was a heck of a game to watch. :o

It was a heck of a game to watch, but think about this:  Guilford has scored 137 points versus Hampden-Sydney the last three seasons and lost all three games!  Sadly, the Quakers have surrendered 149!  Maybe next year ... :)

Good point by Hasanova (as usual) in regards to having a team beat you 8 years in a row.

HSC scored over 50 points.......... again.

The only difference is GC-Q scored almost 50. Normally it would have been 55- (or so) to 0.

At least they were not humiliated.

Now if BC does its job of beating HSC (as usual) and GC-Q can pull off another upset like they did last year against the dreaded Stoners there will be a 3 way tie at the end.

This is the prediction that will be get me eviserated in November.  ;)
