Hey Pakownr -
not D3 related...but I just saw that if (when) Favre throws the record TD pass, the Vikes will stop the game for a presentation and put a Marino video tribute message from MArino to Favre on the jumbotron.

I hate the Packers......but really like Favre....good luck...I hope he breaks the record....next week!

Come on fellow Alum....Darren Sharper - Int for TD!!

I just saw that too... and agree... good luck to favre.. next week. Hopefully he'll break the all time INT record (3 away) before he breaks the TD record. ;)

Trenches - KO coverage versus GCP was a lot better than it was against HSC, but Torrey Lowe is Torrey Lowe.  We should have stopped him about the 50, but he faked a couple of times and then stiff-armed the kicker.  After that, he was gone.

Game was a bit "chippy,"  with several unsportsman calls on both teams.  Some pushing and shoving after the play and a lot of mouthing off to one another.  At least one call for excessive celebration after a TD.   Add a few late hits and it was intense.

Guilford actually played some good "D" at times.  They intercepted GCP twice and recovered two fumbles.  I think they also forced about 4 punts.  In my opinion, if the GCQ offense had truly been in synch, they should have put up about 63.   I think GCQ was the better team, but GCP's Lowe was the game MVP to me.

I think GCQ is still going to have to pick it up entering the 5-game ODAC stretch.  Everyone looks to be improved this year.

Not so good news on the HSC campus. I can't share any info at this time but the outcome of this situation will greatly impact the season.

You have always been a straight shooter Allsky7! If you say something is up then I know something is up. Whatever the situation, I give my condolences to the HSC fans. Remember, no matter how bad it may seem, the games will go on and the new stadium will be rockin' regardless!

Peace

Remember this post?

Congrats to HSC's players and coaching staff. That was the single best executed game plan I have seen in the ODAC against BC in quite a while. The time HSC spent preparing paid off! Even when things look bleek a stout sophomore QB and an "as a team" philosophy can overcome off field problems.  ;) Congrats again!

Now for my take on the ODAC:
I said there would be parity in conference and with 2 more out-of-conference wins the ODAC is still looking good for 2 playoff spots. I think it will be a race to see what ODAC teams finish with 1 total loss. One will win the conference with either 0 or 1 loss and anyone else with 1 total loss will be in the mix for a Pool C bid. The ODAC out-of-conference opponents aren't strong but 1 loss at the end of the year will put you in position to go to the playoffs. Everyone keep chugging, your second loss will seal your playoff fate. Stay tuned, it should be a fun ride!

Strikingly unusual stat for ODAC teams almost halfway through the season: ALL OF THEM HAVE ONLY ONE LOSS!  ;D

The ODAC's top defense versus (the statistical anomaly that is Guilford aside) the league's top offense.  Who else is stoked about the match-up at Fullerton Field on Saturday?

I might be biased, but for the sake of opening the floor for discussion,  are there any opinions on who will come out the victor this weekend?

Well BC's running game was definitely dominant. All the plays HSC ran were new out of the same formations from previous games. All that is on tape now for E&H to see. With E&H's defense and the fact that it is homecoming, I would give the edge to E&H.

WOW....what a ballgame Saturday!! Fortunately, this time things went the Tigers way. As for the post....sometimes when a door closes, a window opens. As the Tiki commmercial says, when opportunity presents itself, you have to seize it. Looks like Mr. Sedlar has done that.
Llama.....thanks again to you and all Stone Station folk for the hospitality and fellowship Saturday. Olinemom...I anxiously await brownies in Salem.  ;) Ryan...nice to meet and chat with you as well. Anytime you want to go kayaking, just let me know.
Skoal....you and Chip roomies....OMG!! Gasoline on fire I tell ya!!  ;) You know I'm kidding. Small world huh?
ODAC fans buckle up...I think the wild ride is just starting. I hope the Tigers can run the table but they have some tough ones coming up. Most of us called this back in the summer, but this may be the most balanced ODAC top to bottom ever. I know we still have a long way to go between now and then but looks like the oldest small college rivalry in the South may be re-energized as well.  :o  Am looking forward to it.

Having just seen H-SC dismantle my Eagles' defense, I'd have to favor the Tigers in this one.  But the stats may suggest differently...

This year, E&H has held three of the four running backs they've faced to 2.2 or less yards per carry;

-North Carolina Wesleyan's Teron Bush (2.2 ypc on 20 rushes)
-Newport News' Sam Arnold (1.4 ypc on 14 rushes)
-Methodist's Mike Hill (2.2 ypc on 20 rushes)

I know H-SC's Josh Simpson is a different beast, as is this Tiger offense from that of NCW, NNA, and Methodist, but last season, the Wasps held Simpson to 2.8 yards per carry on 17 rushes. E&H also held H-SC to 253 yards of total offense.

Also, the Wasps' defense has 12 sacks on the year. I have a feeling they'll get to H-SC's Sedlar more than Bridgewater did (which was never).

Having said all that, and even with nearly 15,000 E&H fans in attendance for this one, I still like H-SC to get an early lead and keep it.

This is the most balanced Tiger team I have seen in a few years. There is no question that having Simpson in the backfield makes a huge difference and without him, they don't beat BC. (or probably Guilford for that matter) Even if the Wasp stop him, they will have to expend so much energy to do so, I feel like the Tigers can move the ball by other means. I am still trying to get a good read on E&H. I am sticking with them as my surpise team of the ODAC even though Macon and Catholic are making their case for that honor. No question this will be a tough road test for the Tigers but barring a complete meltdown, the Tigers get the W.  8)

E&H is also going to have to do better than 13 points against the Tigers.  I know the Wasps' defense is solid, but they're going to have split playing time with the offense in equal parts to win.

This is the marquee ODAC match-up for the week, no question.

15k attendance?  Holy Cow! :o

With H-SC/E&H being such a big game now, I can't see there being any less.

E&H had the second-largest crowd in the ODAC this year when they hosted Newport News...

6,299 - Bridgewater at Hampden-Sydney (Family Weekend)
5,144 - Newport News at Emory & Henry
4,462 - Guilford at Greensboro
3,921 - Catholic at McDaniel
3,901 - Johns Hopkins at Hampden-Sydney

I can't imagine how large their crowd will get when H-SC rolls into town.  Just think ... E&H has less than 1,000 students, and a town population of roughly 2,500.  All 3,500 of them will be there, as well as 11,500-plus alumni and parents.

I'm not blowing this out of proportion, am I?

Make it an even 6300 at HSC this weekend, cause I'm pretty sure I missed going through the ticket gate.  ;D

Make it 6,301. I was there at 8:30 AM waiting for Stone Station to roll in. Good thing I had a cooler full of Brooklyn Brown Ale and Stone IPA  to keep me company.  ;) I highly recommend pairing a BBA with a bacon, egg, & cheese biscuit. The Stone IPA paired better with the Stone Station chicken.  :D :D

Go ahead and give it another 5 and make it 6,306 as the 4 guys and I walked in and we didn't go through the gate either.

LOL! They don't have a gate!  ;D They take a still shot from a top the fire truck then start counting by putting  an "X" over each person in the photo until they are all counted.

Now at Emory & Henry they do the same thing only it's a google earth shot of Southwest Virginia. On a good weekend there are atleast 5 or 6 family reunions in the photo to allow for an extra 500 fans or so!  :o

In all seriousness, I wonder how they do calculate the numbers at H-SC. I think this came up the last time we had this dicussion. Since there is no gate, the students just walk down from the dorms or frat circle. Also you have to factor those that arrive early before they man the roads to start collecting $. If anything, the official number is probably low. And then the dilema of do you count the tailgaters that never leave the tailgating section even though they technically CAN see the field.  :D I suspect there weren't too many of those Saturday.  ;)
