Pat I agree, Marty usually uses most of the clock with motion and personnel changes. My point was that as with most no huddle offenses Marty has always speed things up to catch teams changing personnel. These coaches have squared off over ten times to not be prepared for a fast pace is just not being prepared period.

I still contend that it was Marty's brilliance (yes, I said brilliance) with his game plan more than Coach Clark not being prepared. I got an inkling when lisitening to HSC's radio broadcast in the first half. Their radio guys said, "where does Marty get all of these plays, we haven't seen any of these run in the previous 4 games." I followed that up by talking to a BC defensive coach who confirmed that not only were they different plays but they were run out of the same formations the BC kids saw on tape. BC thought they knew what was coming execpt in every instance the play went in a totally new direction. That coupled with the quick snap and keeping the RB available for the shovel pass on every passing play was the difference. When I see Marty again, my question will be, "when did you start to compile the 2007 BC vs. HSC game plan?" My bet is when there was still a chill in the air in January or Feburary. Again my hats off to Marty on this go round.

E H dad,
No ill feelings here about E&H. May the best team win. BC didn't go to the playoffs last year and we are still fielding a team again this year. The world didn't end and won't if we lose again this year.  ;)

Marty Favret is brilliant, he knows how to put players in position to be successful and that is the make up of a good coach. Favret destroying a BC defense is nothing new, he has been doing that for close to years (at CUA and HSC). BC just had enough overall talent to win the games against HSC but now it appears the overall talent is even the results changed (at least this year).
GO CARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry Gone you raced across the line! I said he was brilliant for this game. Now in past years I saw him go for it on 4th down in his own territory more than once. In 2005 he actually kept BC in the game in the first half in my opinion. LOL of him destroying a BC defense being nothing new. Check the stats and talk to the brother of your team's QB. I have spoke to JD and I'm sure he will enlighten you on BC's defense. As for talent, HSC had 2 seniors, a SO QB and a tightend who excelled on Saturday. If you think the talent is now even I can't wait until the final game of the year when your Cardinals fly into Jopson field. Get back to me after the game on that one.  ;)

I have seen 4 of the last 5 Tiger/Eagle matchups. No question the Tiger O did a number on BC Saturday. I do not have stats in front of me but unless my memory has gotten worse than I think  :o, I don't recall Tiger O's "destroying" the Eagle D the games I  attended in the last 5 years.
There is no doubt Marty is a good coach. I agree with Llama...the game plan Saturday was exceptional. I suppose time will tell whether or not he is "brilliant". When he puts together a D in line with the 70 and 71 Tigers teams to go along with his O and a few ODAC titles, then we can talk "brilliant" perhaps. And go ahead and make some noise in the NCAA's too while you are at it.  ;) As a Tiger fan, that's not asking too much is it?  :D

Maybe I should stated I was only talking about the Favret Offense vs the BC Defense. The wins do not suppport my point but here are the stats to do so. He puts his best players in position to make plays.
Favret's O vs Clark's D

CUA (OC) vs BC
1997 581 yds 35 pts
1998 409 yds 36pts
1999 629 yds 35 pts

HSC (HC) vs BC
2000 306 yds 12 pts
2001 456 yds 42 pts
2002 322 yds 7 pts
2003 333 yds 28 pts
2004 465 yds 28 pts
2005 431 yds 24 pts
2006 276 yds 13 pts
2007 643 yds 38 pts

Oh how I long for the days when teams actually played defense.  :'( Based on these numbers he should be at least 7 and 4 againast the Eagles.  :o

Well, no Quaker football Oct. 6, but I'm taking advantage of this weekend to visit my youngest son at Mars Hill College just north of Asheville.  I told him I'd go to a home football game with him and he's now a senior, so I better get going!

The Lions are facing SAC-foe Carson-Newman, so I'll give you a DII comparison.

I think there's a pretty good chance I'll be at BC on Oct. 13.  It looks like roughly 200 miles and 3.5 hours.  If I get up early and get going, I should have some time to hang out with the Stone Station crew before the game!

PS Number 16 will make the trip.  :)

C'mon 'Nova,

I have asked you pretty please more than twice to leave that guy at home.  You Quaker guys sure don't follow instructions very well. ;D

Just kidding, we look forward to seeing you in the 13th.  I haven't seen a D3 game for three weeks now.  I won't miss it for anything!  I gotta getta fix!

GO BC!

Trenches

I just noticed next weekend GC is BC's Homecoming game... very sneaky! You guys have a big enough home field advantage already!! ;D I have played there in a homecoming game, and I will say even if they weren't our fans, it's always fun to play in front of a big crowd. Don't think I ever got got to play in front of 15,000 though.  ;)

Hopefully, both teams will be well rested and well prepared after their bye weeks. Should be a great one.

I asked Coach Kiesel very nicely to leave Josh in Greensboro just for you and he said "no can do!"  lol  As a compromise, however, he will probably pass less than a 100 times.  :)  I look forward to seeing the game and all of you.  As Trenches noted, I figured it was probably BC's homecoming.  The more the merrier!  lol

SHOCKING NEWS AT HAMPDEN-SYDNEY!!  :o

I figured that would get everyones attention.  :D Seriously, I just read in the Mayberry Gazette (aka The Farmville Herald) that Corey Sedlar didn't even start in high school at Mills Godwin (Richmond) Kinda curious, anyone familiar with the Godwin program know who the starter(s) were and where they are today?

" That was just the fifth football game he's played in his life," said Favret of his newfound sophomore quarterback, who was a career-backup at Mills Godwin, where Smith and Simpson played as well. "It's incredible what he's been doing right now, just incredible."

One more note: Congrats to Drew Smith who broke the H-S single game reception mark with 15 and with 184 yards Saturday is now the Tigers all time leader in career receiving yards.

He can throw up to 99 passes as long as 10 or more are completed to Bridgewater defensive players.  How's THAT for a deal?

See how good we treat our visitors?  :)

Allsky 7,

I believe Cory Sedlar played behind a quarterback named Bristow who was a first round baseball draft pick.  I don'e know if he went Division I baseball or straight into professional baseball.  Either way Mr. Bristow was an elite athlete.  As I think you said in a previous post "timing is everything."

Thanks HSC85!! I figured there had to be someone pretty talented in front of him. He is a  solid D3 QB as a SO. It will be fun to see how he develops over the next few years.  Welcome to the board.  ;D

I know there has been a great deal of talk about playoffs, who is in, who is out, etc.  But I'm going to jump straight to the Stagg Bowl.  Here is my prediction.

I can't wait to go to this year's Stagg Bowl and have all those free adult beverages I know I have coming.   ;D ;) ;D
Anything that you ardently desire, vividly imagine, totally believe and enthusiastically pursue will inevitably come to pass !!!

This has turned into quiet the rivalry.
Bridgewater has been a hard team to beat in the ODAC, But now it seems that the ODAC teams are starting to figure out how to beat them.
HSC played a great game in a 38 - 31 victory over the eagles this past Saturday.
The Tigers still remain the most exciting offense in the ODAC.
When they are hitting on all cylinders, their offense can't be stopped.
Now it seems they are improving on Defense and this makes them dangerous.
Bridgewater is always solid and very well coached. They hardly ever beat themselves and you must always bring your A game to play with them.
This may be the year of the HSC Tigers. They have so many weapons on offense and its impossible to key a couple players.
The ODAC is well balanced this year....It should go down to the wire before the ODAC champ is crowned.
Good luck to all teams........GO TIGERS !!!

It's whether you get up !

Cory Sadler played very well against CNU in the scrimmage, especially, considering he started that scrimmage without much advance warning. There is another player, Zach Miller, who played QB his freshman year at HSC and lit up the field durning the freshman scrimmage with Hargrave Military but came back this year as a receiver. Marty has three current players that have experience playing QB in his offense.

Skoal,

I have it on good authority the picture you posted was the BC stands prior to their ODAC championnship(s).

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! to E&H linebacker Evin O'Sullivan for being named to D3Football.com National Defensive Team of the Week.
The WASP's D-unit held Methodist to 39 yards rushing on 59 attempts.
Who would have the nerve to regonize the WASP"s defense nationally?  Oh it's D3 Football.com .
