Allsky 7,

I believe Cory Sedlar played behind a quarterback named Bristow who was a first round baseball draft pick.  I don'e know if he went Division I baseball or straight into professional baseball.  Either way Mr. Bristow was an elite athlete.  As I think you said in a previous post "timing is everything."

+1 for the cool user ID.

I know there has been a great deal of talk about playoffs, who is in, who is out, etc.  But I'm going to jump straight to the Stagg Bowl.  Here is my prediction.

I can't wait to go to this year's Stagg Bowl and have all those free adult beverages I know I have coming.   ;D ;) ;D

I'll meet you there!!

This has turned into quiet the rivalry.
Bridgewater has been a hard team to beat in the ODAC, But now it seems that the ODAC teams are starting to figure out how to beat them.
HSC played a great game in a 38 - 31 victory over the eagles this past Saturday.
The Tigers still remain the most exciting offense in the ODAC.
When they are hitting on all cylinders, their offense can't be stopped.
Now it seems they are improving on Defense and this makes them dangerous.
Bridgewater is always solid and very well coached. They hardly ever beat themselves and you must always bring your A game to play with them.
This may be the year of the HSC Tigers. They have so many weapons on offense and its impossible to key a couple players.
The ODAC is well balanced this year....It should go down to the wire before the ODAC champ is crowned.
Good luck to all teams........GO TIGERS !!!

I'm pretty sure any team is hard to beat when their offense is hitting on all cylinders.

H-SC has still lost seven of their last 15 games ... so it has been shown their offense can be stopped.

Well, no Quaker football Oct. 6, but I'm taking advantage of this weekend to visit my youngest son at Mars Hill College just north of Asheville.  I told him I'd go to a home football game with him and he's now a senior, so I better get going!

The Lions are facing SAC-foe Carson-Newman, so I'll give you a DII comparison.

I think there's a pretty good chance I'll be at BC on Oct. 13.  It looks like roughly 200 miles and 3.5 hours.  If I get up early and get going, I should have some time to hang out with the Stone Station crew before the game!

PS Number 16 will make the trip.  :)
or you could come the night before and enjoy the festivities, probably poker and other fun activities and enjoy the day right at Stone Station!!

Hmmmmm.  Well how about this?  Might be making road trips near the end of October and beginning of November.  Greensboro and Bridgewater (haven't been to Bridgewater since college).  This could happen.

Had to dump the latest incarnation of Jacketlawyer-ette.  Tonight.  You're welcome for the Jerry Springer aroma to the board (thankyaverrrymuch).  Might need some Stone Station lovin'. . . . as I root my Jackets to victory! 8)

Just tossin' that out there boys.  Sorry!

I just noticed next weekend GC is BC's Homecoming game... very sneaky! You guys have a big enough home field advantage already!! ;D I have played there in a homecoming game, and I will say even if they weren't our fans, it's always fun to play in front of a big crowd. Don't think I ever got got to play in front of 15,000 though.  ;)

Hopefully, both teams will be well rested and well prepared after their bye weeks. Should be a great one.

The plan as of right now is to make the trip up. I would say it's somewhere around 85% because lately, things seem to be popping up left and right at the last second. I will give the final call sometime early-mid next week.
It would be a shame to miss out on the Stone station fixin's and those brownies. :(  Oh... and the game too.  ;)

QuoteOh how I long for the days when teams actually played defense.   Based on these numbers he should be at least 7 and 4 againast the Eagles.

I've seen one game (McDaniel) so far and it wasn't much of a contest. I haven't made a thorough assessment of stats but have a hunch the biggest change is on the defensive side of the ball. In the old days it seemed we pressured the QB more regularly and then got burned deep occassionally. I've listened to the most games and have been surprised there havent been more sacks orr tackles for loss.  I checked 2002 and found points against were much lower in the last of the Ryan Bailey/Jermaine Taylor years. If sacks are down and scores are upwhat's the reason?

    • Too much turnover on the defensive coaching staff, (3 or is it 4 new D coordinators in 6 years?

    • lack of more than 1 dominant D lineman backed up by dominant backers

    • Change of philosophy, more cautious

    • Other teams figuring out  how to attack
    • New guys don't remember the bad old days and feel entitled to win with out the level of commitment

Somebody smarter than me we will have to figure it out but I'll never forget that first playoff game in 2000 at W&J being down 28-3, getting torched Deep play after play.  The tide turned when the line started putting pressure on the QB and he ended up with more picks in one game than he'd had the entire season.

    I love blitzing! ;D

Justin Bristow would have graduated one year ahead of Sedlar.  Justin went to Auburn to play baseball and is currently a junior at ECU.  Exceptional baseball player who should have a shot at the pros one day.  So, not sure why Sedlar would not have played as a senior at Godwin.

    muchacho

OUCH!!! Wacker fans might beg to differ on that one. During his heyday, he was one of the best (if not the best) defensive coach in VA on any level. How he rates overall as a head coach I'm sure is debatable but his success is not. He took a struggling E&H program in the early 80's and turned it into a winner.  Granted, the Wasp did struggle the last few years of his career. I don't know whether even he would admit this but I am of the opinion that the illness and death of his wife had an impact on that.

My comment wasn't based on Wacker's overall body of work. Obviously he created quite a legacy at EHC. However, nobody can argue that his last few years were up to his standards.

I feel your pain my Jacket friend.  Year....year and a half....two years tops is about all I can get out of them.  :o Something always seems to change around the year mark.  Sure am glad D3 athletics and a cold beer is one constant you can always count on!! ;)
