I think the best part about this is that no one is absurdly backing E&H on their bloated attendance figures.  E&H Dad doesn't live on here supporting it.

Their voices silent, everyone pretty much agrees E&H attendance figures are bogus.

Pat we could care less what attendance figure is reported.  We just want the W!!!!!!!

OK guys, one more time -- I really didn't want to open this can of worms again in reference to Emory & Henry's attendance reporting. Prior to this season, again, not to sound redundant, I attended every home game from 2003-2006. The only time I mentioned a figure was this year and I said that it was possible that there would be 8000 - 10,000 fans there for homecoming.  And it looks like I was not far off the mark. Again, to repeat myself, I said that when I was there the stands were always full or nearly full. During those years, I could have cared less whether there were 500 or 5000 in attendance.  I was there just to watch my son play football. Think what you may.  If you think that the figures are bogus, so be it. It's all a matter of perspective. If anyone else has attended as many home games as I have in the last four years as I have at E&H, please step forward and set me straight. So as to not beat a dead horse, I could care less whether there were 50, 500, 5000, 10,000 at an E&H home game. End of discussion.

I must concur with others on the Board that the ODAC Championship is an open race and it's E&H's to lose. After being around the game of football for 50+ years, as a player in high school and college, coach, and parent, I have learned one absolute truth -- never expect the expected and always expect the unexpected. Case in point, Stanford's win over USC.  Here was a team that was a 40-point underdog and they came in and beat the #2 team in the nation. It's not always about athleticism. It's about heart, determination, and want-to. If E&H is going to win the ODAC, it's up to them and they have no one else to hold accountable. So, it depends on E&H, how the stars are aligned, and the mighty football gods on what E&H does for the remainder of the season.

As always, peace.

We're a very reactive board. Meaning, we don't post much prior to the games, but we sure do talk about them afterwards.

Are we just being careful fans since the race is so close this year?

Kid,

I have learned to be to be careful. Thats how I stayed married for thirty years.

Your right its a horse race in the ODAC and were not even into the homestretch.

This coming Saturday will give us a better indication.

Do you think we should become more proactive and less reactive on this board?

Very good post Algernon, You are very right on the way you view the ODAC.
This is going to be a tuff season and the ODAC champ will deserve it.

All of the ODAC teams still have a chance to win the championship, especially those 6 teams that have no more than 1 loss.  In honor of the baseball playoffs, here are the current ODAC standings using the "Games Back" format of Major League Baseball:

Team       Won        Lost         Pct.        Games Back
    RMC          2          0       1.000              ---
    E&H          1          0       1.000               .5
    HSC          2          1        .667               .5
    W&L          1          1        .500             1.0
    BC          0          1        .000             1.5
    GC          0          1        .000             1.5
    CUA          0          2        .000             2.0

I have attended every home game at Emory over the last 12 years, with the exception of 1 or 2 games.....with that said, I don't exactly know how they do attendance.  I am thinking the count has something to do with ticket stubs that are given - I have never gotten one because I use a pass and there are probably 500 people that attend that use coaching passes who never get a ticket stub.  Also, there are several hundred tailgaters that never even cross the road towards the stadium.

The biggest games I have seen there over the years were the '95 game against CVC (UVA@Wise now) and the '97 game against #4 ranked Washington & Jefferson - being there, I know that there were at least 10,000 in attendance at both of those games, regardless of what number was reported.

Overall, the numbers are closer to being correct than they are to being way off based on what I have seen over the last 12 years.

Congratulations to Zak Thornton who is the ODAC offensive player of the week.  I got to watch Mr. Thornton this weekend as they took on Carnegie-Mellon, who I believe turned out to be a tougher team then most people imagined.  That, and the fact it was HOT that day.  Shouldn't be that way in October. :P

I also enjoyed the fact that when the Jackets were leaving the field after the win, they gave my four year-old niece little high fives when she held out her hand.  She talked about that all day and into the evening.  The little stuff makes a big difference.  So thanks to the Yellow Jacket players for that! 8)

I wish I could see the Waspers play my Jackets this Saturday.  It will be a great game, regardless of who wins. :)

Who teaches the estimating classes down at 'ol EHC? Jeese-o-flip!

I think it all boils down to recruiting. Falsely inflating your attendance numbers to boast to recruits how much fan support your team receives is where I have a gripe.  Other than that I could give a rat's glute.

An old Tiger program from 2005 says there were over 14,000 fans at the 100th Tiger/Jacket game. I attended that game and there were a bunch of people there.  I was more concerned with enjoying a Tiger W and watching the goal post make it's way toward Chalgrove Lake than what the attendance was.  ;) :D

I was there for that one.  K-Mack was a player.  14K very easily.

Snakehandler,

Speaking of rat's glute, isn't that what you feed to your snakes?

Har, har, I am soooo funny.   ;D

See you on Saturday.

I remember hearing about a coach asking that any shots of the stands get cut from the team highlight tape because he didn't want recruits seeing what D3 attendance looks like.
I wonder how many recruits looking into a D3, D2, or I-AA program actually look or ask about how many people show up on Saturday. Personally that wasn't a concern I had when selecting where I wanted to play ball.
Whether or not the team had a winning tradition and what chance of getting playing time were bigger concerns than how many people would be watching from the stands.
