Anybody know where religion_major is these days?  I met him at a debate last year.  Nice guy.

Here is a pic of RM as he looks now.

By the way was RM a good debater? Perhaps a master debater?  :D

That's the funniest darn thing I've seen in a while!  Looks just like him.  He looks a bit stiff though?  Probably from being a master debater........
... not to be confused with championship fishermen who are the true master baiters.  :)

Wow, that really is scary how much that looks like him.

We need to sell them at football games. Who wouldn't want a mini plastic version of religion major??

I'm sure you received your coin and ribbon back in the day when you actually had to earn them. None of the warm fuzzy BS where EVERY kid gets a ribbon like these days.  ;)

Like the bumper stickers that read "My kid is a good citizen at Bubbas Elementary School"?

Translation - "My kid is too stupid to make 3rd grade honor roll and get a real bumper sticker"

My personal favorite among counter-culture bumper stickers is "My kid can beat up your honor roll student."

Speaking of bumper stickers. I saw this one summer of 2006 down at Floyd Fest Music Festival (Hasa's old stomping grounds) The car it was on must have had over 100 on it. One of my favs....

It's not that I'm old, your music really does suck.  ;D

Hey allsky,

Yeah, it wasn't as warm and fuzzy as it is now.  Smiley faces had not yet been invented and teachers did mark your papers with red ink.  lol  There were 180 school days and you had to be there every day and the principal had a paddle with holes he'd drilled himself.  Ouch!  If you got a paddling at school, my parents gave me another when I got home because they figured the principal had a good reason and had probably held back some.  lol

Hey llama,

To answer your concern, I was not born in the 1920's, but the silver dollars were minted in the 1920's.  I can, however, understand why you'd get confused.  :)  I'm 99.9% sure I'll be visiting with Stone Station Saturday morning.  Is there anything I can contribute?

Just your good company and well a BC victory this year!  :o Ok, I know I can count on the firsthalf of that request anyway. ;)

ps: According to Born Power BC is a 4 pt underdog this weekend. Its nice to be a dog again, now lets see what we do with it!

Nice write up. Good to see the "human" side of things sometimes and not just stats.  ;)

Thanks, Llama.  I appreciate the link very much.  I'm not sure if this also influenced Josh Vogelbach to attend Guilford, but his uncle, Dale Vogelbach '83, played baseball for the Quakers.

I'll see you tomorrow morning!

I'll toot miz's horn for him...

He was all-conference first team his junior and senior year.  He's No. 10 on the school's all-time career sacks list with 11.5.  His senior year, he led a defense that gave up only 15.2 points a game, and held all 10 opponents to three or less TDs. Oh, and he has a really cool brother.

There's miz.  TheEHC52, you're up. :)

((( this is all in good fun, btw )))
I got a ribbon and a silver dollar for perfect attendance in the 4th grade.  :)

How much would that dollar be worth today had you invested it instead of buying homemade candy from the local drug store?
I don't know because I still have all them.  :)  They're early 1920's silver dollars.  The tradition then at my school in Patrick County (VA) was to give each kid who attended every day of the school year a coin.

Hi Hasa...look forward to seeing ya at Stone Station tomorrow. On this Silver Dollar valuation thing. Go to http://measuringworth.com/calculators/ppowerus/ for a nice toy to calcuate present value of old money.  In your case, you didn't mention which of the 3 years that you were in the 4th grade that you had perfect attendance, so I guessed 1960. If that is right then the value of a dollar in 1960 is worth $6.81 in today's money. So, bring that 1920 Silver Dollar to the game tomorrow and I'll give you $6.81 !

Hey, Waterboy.  Thanks.  I also look forward to seeing everyone at Stone Station.  I will be there tomorrow barring some unseen disaster ... or a disaster during some unseemly barring.  :)  Thanks for the link - I'll check it out.  Somewhere in a drawer I have at least 4 silver dollars minted in the 1920-1923 time span.  Patrick County's now defunct Red Bank School was tiny and, since most of the teachers were sisters, they collaborated on this sort of thing.  There was one class for each grade and the 1st & 6th grade teachers were sisters, the 2nd & 4th were sisters and, finally, the 3rd & 5th were sisters.  Welcome to rural Virginia Appalachia in the late 50's and early 60's.  lol  You're right, my 4th grade teacher was particulary generous and gave me a coin all three years.  lol  Although to tell you the truth, she might not have recognized me my third trip around since I'd started shaving.  Your generous $6.81 offer is greatly appreciated, but I think I'll pass.  By the way, Vogelbach said he'll pass also.  :)  See you tomorrow.  Peace
