abnrgr - be safe, be smart, be sober ( 2 out of three ain't bad)...I echo what the others have said...thanks and we'll hear from you in November.

Hey does anybody have an address where we can send a "care package" to ABNRGR?

I know his last name and his son's full name.  His son played for and graduated from Guilford a few years back.

Actually, I just found abnrgr's name and his wife's name in a Guilford roster/biography archived from 2001.  If anyone wants it, PM me.  Thanks.

Current ODAC standings:

Team          Won           Lost            Pct.           Games Back
    RMC             4             0          1.000                ---
    HSC             4             1           .800                0.5
    W&L             3             2           .600                1.5
    BC               2             2           .500                2.0
    E&H             1             3           .250                3.0
    CUA             1             3           .250                3.0
    GC               0             4           .000                4.0

With today's results final, the ODAC championship will go to HSC or RMC and will be decided on November 10 in Ashland.  Randolph-Macon's game against Bridgewater next week will not affect who is the ODAC champion.

It still seems possible that Bridgewater or W&L could get an at-large bid if they win out and finish 8-2.  It also seems possible that Randolph-Macon, should they lose to HSC, could get an at-large bid if they beat Bridgewater.

Just back from Wilson Field in Lexington....W&L- 17  BC -14
Congratulations to W&L on a hard fought victory over the Eagles.
General's Defense looked very sharp and created headache's for BC.
QB for BC #13 took a beating. The General's sacked him several times and stayed in the BC Backfield all game creating havoc.
Hat's off to BC.... like always fought to the end !

Toughts about E&H Football,

The best the Wasps can do is  to finish 6-4 and there is a good chance they may go 4-6. Monty recently made a statement to the Bristol,Va newspaper that Wasp football had made the turnaround. He made the same statement last year right after the Guilford win.Is going 6-4 or 4-6 this year making the turnaround? I think not. There was a great deal of pre-season hype by E&H that this could be the year.
Again I think not. Last season .Monty stated after going 1-9 the year before, "the
kids have to buy into my system".Looks like no one has bought into his system.
Don't dare blame the players.....they are not responding for a reason. The E&H coaches need to fix whats broke and take a good look in the mirror and ask WHY?

Looks like Mt. Union football ain't in SW Va. yet.I don't care how big and fast you have gotten in the pre-season if the coaches aint coaching the players up....YOUR
Not Going To WIN!

Looks like the Wasps are on the road to Neuterville.

Congratulations to the Jackets ... 7-1, 4-0 ... wow!  Despite the final score, it really could have gone either way until late in the 3rd quarter.  Trailing 14-10, Guilford was driving and an interception gave RMC a short field at the 19.  Once they scored and went up, 20-10, I felt Guilford was deflated.  The Quakers had lots of successful goal line stands today, but the Defense was forced to be on the field too much.  Guilford had 1st and four on the goal on their first drive of the game and got nothing and then fumbled a kick-off return to give RMC another short field.  Literally, almost no break went our way today.

Vogelbach is obviously still hurt, but I take nothing away from RMC.  What a great job the Jackets have done this year!

BC is not the dominant team it once was...and the ODAC has higher quality across the board.  Over the last 13 months BC has lost 4 conference games, to 4 different teams...the only two ODAC teams to not beat Bridgewater in the past two seasons are the two that remain on their schedule (RMC & Catholic) as the Eagles attempt to close out another 8-2 no-playoff season.

I wish you were right, but I think the ODAC is destined for only one team this year - either RMC or HSC.

Actually, Monty's quote in the Friday paper was that, "We're still growing and learning and turning this program around. So maybe we have to lose a couple tough games before we can have the luck turn our way."  Here's the link for those that want to read it:

http://www.tricities.com/tristate/tri/sports/football.apx.-content-articles-TRI-2007-10-26-0050.html

I'm sorry, but as somebody who was on last year's team, he often said after the Guilford win that we got the program turned around.  In his words, our senior class, "Helped to right the ship."  We set the tone last year and there are enough seniors to remind everybody of everything that has been instilled in the past three years.

And youth isn't an excuse either.  The Wasps returned 6 starters on offense and 9 on defense this year.  There are also freshman like Caleb Jennings and Darren Richardson who have made a positive impact.  The season started off well, but things are going downhill quickly.  Plain and simple, something is rotten in Denmark and too many excuses are being made.

Olinemom - thanks for the Brownies - they were a hit. When Jeremy got out of  the truck at the tailgate, the first words out of his mouth were, "got my brownies?"

Although CNU lost, the brownies brought good fortune to the Bradshaws...Jesse set a school record for receiving yards with 10 catches for 272 yards and 2 TDs.

Oh - say a quick prayer for CNU coach Kelchner......wasn't feeling well and heart rate wasn't right at halftime. Taken to hospital in an ambulance.

BC is not the dominant team it once was [...]

Couldn't have said it better myself.

I watched W&L absolutely dominate Bridgewater this afternoon. Take away our three "big" plays (31-yard TD run by Carter; 26-yard fake punt run by Ruebush; 21-yard TD pass to Copeland), and we had 134 yards of total offense on 61 plays. That's just under 2.2 yards a play.

As much as we like to say the play in the ODAC has gotten better, I think W&L's 42-point loss in the first round of the playoffs last year showed it hasn't gotten better on a national scale. I'm convinced BC is simply not as good as our championship teams. We're still good (can't complain with 14 wins out of 18 games in the last two years), but we can no longer win games on talent alone.

Oh, and when was the last time the Eagles had no turnovers and lost a game? That's how bad the Generals defense made our offense look.

Our 35 seniors have some soul searching to do. It's going to be mighty hard to finish the season 8-2, knowing that it won't get you a conference title or playoff appearance. Kudos to them if they can do it.

I will say that our defense played one heck of a game. They've carried us this year.

Congrats again to the Generals!

I also congratulate the Gennies.  They took it to us on both sides of the ball.  It is not only our seniors that need to do some soul searching.  It goes all the way to the coaching staff and the paucity of plays on the offense and the skill levels on both sides of the ball.  WE used to bring good athletes in and coach them to get better, but today it seems they come in and they don't improve like they used to.  That needs improvement.  Oh and I'm sick of off tackle to the left, off tackle to the right , throw on third and punt.  We need to use the talents of the personnel we have --it's a sin to have so much talent and not to improve on it or use it effectively.

no word on Kelchner....man, I pray he's ok. He's competitive and a Type A, but how we loves football and the players.

In answering a question on his blog in May, Coach Clark said "...the players probably dictated the success more so than the plans." He was talking about the Eagles offense in 2001.

I think that can be said for this 2007 team. I know since Coach Colbert left, fans have been giving the Eagle playcallers (Coach Clark and Soltis) a hard time whenever we have a close game or even lose, but as Clark said about the 2001 team, players (probably) dictate the success more than the plays do.

Again, I think we have a very talented squad. Anyone in the ODAC, other than BC, would be thrilled with an 8-2 record (2006) or to start off 6-2 (2007). But us BC fans were spoiled by the teams we had from 2000 to 2005. We sure enjoyed one heck of a ride, but we can't start pointing fingers at particular players or coaches just because we lose. How about just admitting that the team that beat us was simply better? It doesn't mean they have more talent, or that they have better coaches. It simply means they executed their game plan better than we did, made more of an adjustment than we did, and came out on top.

I don't think we could have done anything different offensively that would have won us this game. W&L kept the pressure coming and tackled well. Kudos to them.

As a BC fan said to me after the game, "someone has to win and someone has to lose." And that holds true even if there are two talented and well prepared teams like there were today.

New poll.

As algernon stated, no matter what happens on Nov. 3 (R-MC at BC), the conference championship will be decided on Nov. 10 when Hampden-Sydney travels to Randolph-Macon.
