I never said Coach Favret trying to "out coach" his opponents was a bad or negative thing.

I said that because he's been doing the same kind of stuff since he has been at H-SC. It just so happened he finally got over the hump (beat BC, in other words) this year.

So in my eyes, Favret has done nothing different (coaching wise). Since 2002, he has had a 5-1 conference record four times and finished 4-2 twice. Don't get my wrong, he has done an outstanding job there. But in my opinion, what Coach Arruza did (going from 3-3 in '03, to 2-4 in '04, to 1-5 in '05, to 0-6 in '06, to 5-1 in '07) deserves COY honors more so than Favret.

I have tremendous respect for Marty, as I've said on this board many times.  But I couldn't have put the above argument for Pedro any better.  He should win COY straight out, though I wouldn't be upset if Marty split the award.

Unlikely that we could have co-COY with only two clear canidates and 7 voters.

Can a Coach/School split their vote?  Just asking..

If the vote is four for Arruza and three for Favret (or visa versa), then they (I'm pretty sure) can agree on co-COY.

Also, are we sure there are only seven votes? I believe in some conferences, both the SID and coach of each school gets a voice/vote.

First of all, I admit that I am a big Marty Fan. But in my heart I feel Coach Favret deserves COY. Why ?.......Remember Marty started the year fully intending for Warnement to be the starting QB. Warnement was taking the biggest majority of the snaps and he knew Marty's system.
So all at once Warmement and Simpson get suspended. And remember this is only days before the first game against Hopkin's.
Talking about having to regroup in a hurry.....Can you imagine ?
Everyone wrote us off.....We were picked, what, 5th in the ODAC ?...Yeah !
Cory Sedlar has done a great job. This kid is smart, calm, cool and collect.
But Marty showed the patients and molded this QB into one of the ODAC'S better QB'S.......And then Marty used several Backs which performed very well until Simpson returned.
Unless you are a Tiger Fan and been to all the games this year its easy to assume that it was the Drew Smith and Josh Simpson show only.
WRONG......Marty did one heck of a job spreading the ball all over.
He kept defenses pulling their hair. There was a stretch when teams were keying so much on Smith and Simpson that Marty started going to the TE Baumgartner 7-8 times a game or running reverses with Zack Miller and throwing to other recievers. And it always worked in a big way.
This is the most balanced HSC team that I have seen in years.
I think considering the card Marty was dealt at the first of the season, its amazing at the level he had this team playing.
We were only a missed extra point and a 7 turnover game away from being undefeated.
But I admit that I am partial when it comes to Marty. But he gets my vote  :)

I don't want to recap Saturday's game as it still "stings" more than a little.  However, I do want to place my solitary vote for Coach Aruzza as ODAC Coach of the Year.  I have watched him closely since he arrived at R-MC and that the program has finally turned around is testament to his patience, his hard work and his adaptability.  He tried several approaches to turn the team he inherited into at least a .500 team his first two or three years, but his efforts appeared to be fruitless with their season records.  But he hung in there and kept developing the players he had.  And he has had good recruiting years despite being coach of a "losing program".  In my opinion, recruiting is a huge part of college coaching and he has certainly done a really outstanding job.  I'm not implying that Coach Favret is not deserving of taking an already outstanding program to win the ODAC championship and he deserves loads of credit for that and he and his team certainly deserve congratulations.  However, I think what Coach Aruzza has done this year, in spite of seemingly insurmounatable obstacles and "last place" predictions, really qualifies him for Coach of the Year.  My son is a senior and a member of the Yellowjacket football team and I know he and his teammates have nothing but respect for Coach Aruzza's coaching ...  for his ethics ... for his dedication to produce a winning team that the school can be proud of  ... and for his caring attitude.  R-MC's motto is "Believe in the Moment of Connection".  After an incredible amount of hard work and perseverance he has produced a team that really believes in themselves ... not only as football players ... but as individuals who will prove to be productive members of society no matter what career path they follow in life.  The Yellowjacket team this year believed in the moment of connection.  I think Coach Aruzza deserves to be ODAC Coach of the Year.

OK, in case anybody thinks I'm an idiot, I know Coach Arruza's name is misspelled in my most recent post.  I knew it was double for one letter and single for the others, but I confess I just flat out misspelled it and gave him two Z's and only one R.  Also, I know how to spell "insurmountable" but I guess my fingers just started flying too fast and I didn't bother to proofread it.  Anyway, aside from those spelling errors, my sentiments were unmistakable (spelled that right!).

Just a couple weeks ago I saw that movie for the first time when our son rented it. I know it's been out for a while but we hadn't seen it. I remember when that happened, as I was playing football in college myself at the time, and the tragedy of it struck the whole nation. Watching the movie personalized it. You know those people affected are still grieving today.

I have been saying the same thing all year ad nauseum!!  :D No doubt Smith and Simpson are the studs but keying on them does not solve your problem. There are several others that can beat you if these two are shut down. Baumgardner to name one. And don't forget the O line that has done a terrific job of blocking all year. And my other ad nauseum post for the Tigers underrated D. I know they will have to take their game to another level this weekend.
Ok folks...allsky7 is headed to the hills. To all that make the trip to DE, have one for me. Wish I could be there. Shock the world Tigers!!
Llama and skoal....ya'll ever do venison on that fancy dancy grill of yours? Let me know and I can provide with a hind Q or two. Perhaps at the Stagg Bowl?

I concur. I know this is the ODAC board but the Marshall head coach was from Ferrum as were 6-8 of the players on the plane.
Hollywood has a way of spicing things up on film but the scene where the board was meeting to discuss doing away with football was UNREAL!! If all the students chanting WE ARE MARSHALL doesn't give you chill bumps and / or move you to tears, there is something wrong with you. I get chill bumps and tears in my eyes just thinking about it.  :o :o

Let the flogging begin! ;)

Come on over and join us on the hoops board, BlkJck.  We have fun over there, too.

Good luck to the Tigers this weekend.  Represent the ODAC well. 8)
