Talk about power failures ... Davie County (NC) HS was supposed to play a key football game at Thomasville (NC) HS tonight, but when the ground crew went to turn on the lights, they discoved a thief had broken into the box and stolen all the copper wires in the lighting system.  They say it'll be rewired in time for a Monday night start, but this is a sign of the economic (and moral) times.  Think of all the time, money and gasoline spent by the teams and fans to travel and prepare.

Maybe all stadium crews better check the lights, clocks and scoreboards before game time!

Lights!!

When I was at Havelock High we use to have a Thursday night practice to simulate the next night (minus the road games because JVs were at home). We would have found out the night before at least but ALL the copper?

Either way that was just wrong on so many levels

Here's to a new season.  I hope to get back for several games this year but it is my first as a post graduate.  Hopefully we can see a competative and exciting ODAC season.

Go Bridgewater!

It seemed like a sloppy day all around down in Danville.  Bridgewater turned the ball over several times on the center-quarterback exchange.  The defensive preformance was encouraging with the interception return for a touchdown.  It was a decent first win for the young Eagles.

Go BC

muchacho

Not too much action early in the afternoon, but things are looking interesting already.
BC seems to have come out firing, and the score doesn't reflect a young, inexperienced team.
EHC had a solid win against a team that is usually fairly competitive, so maybe they might not be in the cellar in the ODAC.

On the down side for the conference, W&L was shutout by F&M, and only managed 51 total yards of offense. I'm assuming the game was played in Hanna's rain, but F&M managed almost 200 yards. Thats not a good first showing at all for the Generals.

RMC also lost in a blowout...to a team that was just 1-9 last season. The score was Kings 34-RMC 13. RMC was -4 in turnovers on the day, which would explain any 21 point loss.

Right now Catholic is tied with Shenandoah in the 4th, and Guilford is up and looking convincing against Greensboro. Looks like a lot of ups and downs for the ODAC on opening day.

And I don't know if anybody else has said it yet, but the ODAC board seems like its on life support with the kid moving on. I have to give him credit for helping keep this place interesting for the last 8 or 9 years or however long he has been posting constantly.

That and other Bridgewater posters may be less active as the team may well have a down year.

The BC folks travel well and many were at the game in Danville. Llamaguy called me after the game, but my phone was off at the time - watching TV and napping during Hanna.

Not sure what to think about the RMC game. That was unexpected.

Perhaps. I want to see BC play Shenandoah and Ferrum before conceding that for sure though.

Perfect weather in Greensboro tonight and a nice crowd (3100) on hand for the 12th annual Soup(er) Bowl.  Guilford was the better team, but made too many mistakes (interceptions, penalties and weak punting), although three of the four picks were tipped balls that were tough breaks for Vogelbach.  Despite that, Josh had two TDs and two conversions on 30 of 40 passing for 340 yards and the running game (116 net yards on 31 carries ... much of the 31 yards lost were mainly on the last series when Guilford was running out the clock) was a nice balance.  The first TD pass was a flea-flicker that went for 60 yards only 19 seconds into the game!  And Guilford never attempted a PAT tonight - opting instead to line about 8 guys up all the way to the left with the center, Josh and a receiver inside the hash marks - anyway it worked two out of three times!  For Greensboro, Lowe is a true talent, but I think the Pride will have a long year at QB ... they actually had 49 attempts, but only connected on 20 and also had four intercepted.

A good defensive start for the Quakers, but the offense made some silly mistakes at times that put the Pride in great field position.  With half the turnovers and fewer untimely penalties, Guilford should have won this game by about 24-28 points.   Anyway, a good start to the season and a 7-5 overall lead in the series.  Good luck to both teams the rest of the season!

Ryan, nice to meet you tonight at Guilford.  Hope you enjoyed the game and have a safe trip back to VA!

Not to beat the proverbial dead horse...W is a W.

I always liked the those kids over at G-Boro. Their campus is more normal for the most part.

If GC-Q goes 2-8 this year as long as they beat HSC for one of the 2.

Hey, abnrgr.  Good to see you well ... wish you could have been at last night's game!

Yep, a W is a W and I'm not complaining.  The program is a long way from the 3-36 and 32-straight losses I endured the four years I was a student (and not a player)!  :)  The nice thing to me is to see the atmosphere change - better stadium, lights, better concessions, more enthusiam and an expectation to win!

If by more normal, you mean Greensboro is less liberal, then I whole-heartedly agree with that assessment.  When you walk through Guilford's campus, if you stare too long at the girl with the green-spiked hair chained to the oak tree to stop the bulldozer there to clear a space for the Gay and Lesbian Studies Center you'll get hit in the side of the head by a "tee" shot on the Frisbee golf course in the quad or trip over the all-male mime troupe performing Ensler's The Vagina Monologues in front of Founders Hall.  Not to say everyone's like that ... they certainly aren't ... but there's enough of it to know you dropped into a different place!  lol  Anyway, I liked it there and just take it all in stride.

I'm with you on beating the Tigers!  We haven't outscored them in years ... in fact, the only ODAC team Guilford has not topped in the Vogelbach era.  I'm thinking about heading up there on the 27th.  The Quakers will do better than 2-8 ... unless we have some key injuries, I think 6-8 wins this year.

Stay safe my friend and thanks for all you do!

Actually the weather in Danville was great at game time. The field was dry (it had been covered) rain stopped at arond 10:30 am and by 2 pm kickoff it was hot as sin. Congrats to the eagles they have one heck of a tight end. He looks like he is 8 foot but really he is only 6' 4". Averett gave up close to a 100 yards in penatiles today. Most of that in the first half and by the defense. Every time it looked like they were going to stop BC, they would jump offsides, or do something else stupid. Averett's offense didn't show up today until the 4th quarter.

Looks like BC is going to be right in the mix this year. Good luck
