First, I apologize for my absence after such a critical game.

Second, Keith Ricca is an awesome quarterback.

Third, I have never seen the Tigers so flat on both side of the ball. One or the other, yes, but never both sides on the same day.

No question Catholic game-planned HSC well and executed to perfection. Especially in the first half. I agree with the immaculate reception being the back breaker, but the pick inside the 10 on a Sedlar pass to Gillette, and the subsequent two, yes two, roughing the kicker calls also played a big part in the result. Taking nothing away from Catholic, they seemed to know what the Tigers were doing even before the Tigers did. And, they missed at least two INTs that the defender broke on and had slip out of his fingers.

Grats to CUA; now, the Tigers have to get a little help from either Bridgewater, E&H, or Guilford. All good teams that can be tough to beat. In addition, the Tigers have to knock off Macon, and a win against Huntingdon, while not critical, can still help.

The Huntington game is very critical if CUA doesn't lose. There are several scenarios that could play out here. If Catholic would go ahead and lose this weekend, it would make things a little less complicated. Assuming that comes to pass, do the Tigers rest Simpson and maybe a few players next weekend against Huntington to be 100% when they play Macon for the ODAC title? Personally, I am not a big fan of doing that, BUT winning the ODAC should be priority one.  If CUA wins this weekend, the Tigers don't have any choice but to play as if they are playing for a pool C bid. Catholic could still lose, but they won't know that ahead of time so they will have to pull out all the stops against a good Huntington team. I guess best case scenario is to win out AND have Simpson healthy. Problem is, with turf toe, that isn't likely.

Round One

It looked to me like Simpson aggravated his toe injury near the end of the Catholic game. But an extra week off ought to help that some. Ultimately, there are only two guaranteed games left. My guess is Simpson will play if he is able to play.

I agree that the Tigers can't take any chances and must win out to secure any chance at a pool c bid, which, if CUA doesn't stumble in the next three weeks, may be the only way to the post season for the Tigers. Still, CUA has three tough opponents all of whom need to knock them off to have even the most remote shot at winning the ODAC. Only time will tell.

Assuming Catholic wins out and HSC wins out; do you guys really think the ODAC has a shot at two teams going to the playoffs ? I'd be surprised if that happens. I think only one team goes almost regardless of what happens around the South Region. Of course, if Catholic & HSC win out, I'm going to hope I'm wrong.

Maybe someone with more knowledge of the region will be willing to help with this discussion.

Round One

Actually, Ryan Tipps of D3 Football suggested a 9-1 Tigers might make Pool C. In the past, the ODAC has not been very respected. Yes, I think the best bet for HSC is to win out, and hope to get some help. Anyone heard anything about Ricca having to sit out a game--maybe against E&H?

Round One

I hope Ryan is correct.

I've heard nothing about Ricca sitting.

If he does, Catholic will have a very difficult task down at E&H this weekend.

HSC85

Congratulations to Catholic for the spot in the Regional Rankings.  It is hard to get mentioned with all of the Texas schools being so strong this year.  One notable team missing is Wesley.  I bet they will be there before it's over.

Allsky,

Congratulations on your Dad's induction.  I only met him a few times but have heard many wonderful things about what he has done for the folks at HSC.  An honor well deserved.

If HS-C wins out and doesn't wind up getting the ODAC automatic qualifier, I do think they'll have a good shot at a Pool C.

A big factor is that winning out means they'll have beaten Huntingdon, which is currently ranked seventh in the region. Wins against regionally-ranked opponents are a primary factor for Pool C consideration.

2.7 seconds. An average football player may need more time to score; a great one finds a way. I've seen greatness happen.

If the Tigers beat Huntington, obviously they should pull for H to beat LaGrange. If they lose to LaGrange, how much will that affect HS?

That's a good question, and I don't specifically know the answer to that. If that happens, we'll also have to be keeping a close eye on how the larger South Region scope plays out.

By the way, I know that I told you in person before your dad's induction, but I haven't talked to you since. Let me reiterate a big congrats to your dad and your family on the honor!

RMC08

Congrats to RMC getting back in the win column...Thorton returns to his previous performances (45 carries for 256 yards)  If it aint broke, dont fix it???

Round One

No matter how things break, I expect the best thing for HSC is to win out. It's tougher when you don't control your own destiny.

What a great day for football!  Good luck to the Quakers today at Randolph-Macon!

I hope all the games are well-played and injury-free!   It'll be interesting to see how the ODAC title picture looks at the end of the day!  Peace

jacketlawyer - How about a friendly wager on the Quakers and Jackets?  Let's see, it's at your place and you beat us handily last year ... will you give me 3 1/2 points for the proverbial RC and moon pie?  lol  In a PM, we can probably work out an even more coveted prize - although some would say that's impossible!  :)

Hasa, you have your bet. 8)  Good luck to your Quakers today, but I need for my Yellow Jackets to win out.  I want something on the line when I go to Hampden-Sydney in two weeks!! ;)

Looks like I owe you!  I was working in the garage and every time I'd come inside to listen for a few minutes something bad would happen for the Quakers!  I came inside in the first half leading 17-13 and driving and then a fumble recovery and TD by RMC.  Just a few minutes later, two more RMC TDs including a punt return!  I must be bad luck!  lol

Just now a 90-yard interception return for a TD.  I rest my case.  Sigh.  :)

It was nice to be able to watch the video of the Catholic-Emory and Henry game today. Thanks ODAC!

Catholic earns another win and has 2 more to go in order to clinch a playoff berth. Keith Ricca has really been amazing this year. He had 5 TDs today and no interceptions. He has always been capable of big plays, but his ability to limit mistakes this season has been a huge progression.

Emory and Henry looked good on offense, but were extremely prone to mistakes. Caleb Jennings was fun to watch. He racked up 357 all purpose yards. EHC's radio guys stated at the end of the game that he was unarguably the best player in the conference. Well the quarterback who threw for over 300 yards against you today is pretty good, as well as Simpson and Sitterson. However, with all 3 of those guys moving on after this season, Jennings may very well be the star of the ODAC for the next few years.
