Sorry about that!  He is listed as a freshman on the odac site.  Either way sounds like BC is loaded with young talent.

I like your picks Dooberman...Ricca has been sensational in league play and should be a lock. Jennings and Sitterson were the next best I saw. If CUA wins the championship the COY should be unanimous. Olivero has been one of the best all-around players in the ODAC for 4 years.

Last year was much different (my memory). I believe HSC already had the playoff spot going into The Game so with that already decided, the level was not the same as this year.... meaning both RMC & HSC have a shot at the playoffs IF Catholic stumps its toe. Both teams must win to have an opportunity at post season; last year RMC had no shot.

Good luck and hopefully the weather will not affect the game too much.

Last years game was for the ODAC  title and the automatic bid to the NCAA Tourn.  HS had losses to Hopkins and E&H so had to win to get in.  R-M had a previous L to Frostburg so had to win to get in also.  8)

With my quirky sense of humor, I'm sure there are probably a few out there that wish I would do more reading and less posting.  :D

This is my recollection as well.

What I wish I didn't recall is the two scores the Tigers put on the board within a few minutes of the first quarter.  We were never able to catch up after that, and you could hear the game being taken out of the Macon fans like air out of balloon. >:(

I just hope that game is still on the mind of the team, and that they can go after the Tigers for a little payback.  I'm sorry to hear about the injuries to a few of the H-S players, but I have a funny feeling they'll be okay by game time.

Martyball at it's finest!! When it works, it's a beautiful thing. I'm sure if you listen carefully this Saturday, you will hear Stokeley Fulton (God rest his soul) toss in his grave just up the street behind College Church.  ;D

Thanks allsky for clearing that one up for us...I agree with Jacketlawyer, the first quarter of last years game did pop the proverbial bubble of the fans and of the players (trust me on that one)  I do hope that this years installment of "The Game" has a much better outcome for the the black and lemon  (Yes thats the actual school color - Lemon)

The Forgotten Man

Good luck RMC. One of my son's HS team mates is on the RMC squad.

Martyball is high risk...high reward but I suspect that the man himself would prefer to call it calculated risk rather than high risk. The Jackets recover the onside kick in Q1 last year and it is possibly a different ball game. Even if they do though, the Jackets still had to take advantage of that opportunity. I think that is where the calculated comes in. However, that was not the only key moment in that game. First series of the second half, Jackets drive  and score. If the Tigers don't respond on the next series, mo possibly switches to the Lemon team.
A Tiger W Saturday does not guarantee them a Pool C but a Tiger L guarantees they won't get one. I'm sure that fact has not been lost at practice in Ashland this week.  ;D Not to mention what it means if the Eagles shock the world Saturday.

The Jackets still could have come back last year after those first two scores if the defense would have shut down the Tigers running game to the outside.  The Tigers were unable to get very much yardage up the middle, but the Jackets played the edges too softly so H-SC took advantage of that and were able to eat up yardage that way, get first downs and maintain possession.  That coupled with 3 or 4 key H-SC receptions doomed the Jackets.  Also R-MC just could not get anything going on offense having several dropped passes, badly thrown balls, etc.  They were keying on Zak and were able to pretty much shut down our rushing attack successfully when the other plays didn't work.  The long return should not have been allowed as the runner was down before he ever started running and the refs missed that and made a couple of other bad calls, but after several years of watching ODAC football I guess that was to be expected.  The Tigers pulled out all the stops on offense, had some "trick" plays that worked and wound up dominating the game.  It just wasn't a very good game for the Jackets.  They will have to avoid those kinds of problems this year if they are to win.  As an aside, last year's game was cold as hell also.  I really like and respect Coach Aruzza but I think he and his staff might have been slightly outcoached by Coach Favret that day, the Tigers came to play, they played well and they deserved that win.  The 2007 Jackets were a really good football team; I have a son who was a senior player on that team and I was very proud of them.  I'm proud of the 2008 team also and they have come back from unexpected losses to salvage a respectable season.  If they can beat the Tigers they will have achieved a lofty goal and I think this team is able to achieve it if they go out and play hard.  GO JACKETS!!  BEAT HAMPDEN-SYDNEY!!

Also, in response to a previous poster, the Jackets were tied for 1st place in the ODAC going into that game with the Jackets not having lost a conference game and the Tigers with only one conference loss so whomever won that head-to-head matchup went on to the playoffs.  So to be correct, it was for the ODAC title.  I would say that last year's game was the first time in several years that The Game actually meant something bigger than bragging rights.  IMHO last year's game was as big if not bigger than this year's game, but it is great that this year's game means so much also.  (However, in this year's scenario,  both teams have to count on Catholic having a down week against Bridgewater - Go Eagles! [I never thought I'd hear myself saying that])

Good Luck to the Jackets tommorow.  Bring a W back to the center of the universe.
