While I wasn't at the game, listening on the radio I heard nothing but cowbells all day long from the RMC fans.  It didn't matter the score or how much time was left in the game, you supported your team loudly and proudly until the end.  Congrats on your season and best of luck in the future.
They should have practiced harder.

Congratulations to Mount Union on their first test on the way to another title run. What I am about to say may seem like sour grapes, but the average D III football team can not compete with the Raiders. I had a chance to look over the game notes from the Mt Union web site prior to the game with RMC ( very well done by the way) and what struck me was the amount of Freshman on the roster. Approximately 30 on the regular roster and 104 more on the FRESHMAN roster. Most schools can not compete with these sheer numbers. I would guess the average D III program carries 80 to 90 players on the entire roster with maybe 20 to 40 being Freshman included in that number. It is my understanding that Mt Union plays a 10 game JV schedule as well. Not having any hard facts, I assume that there are only a handful of schools with these kind of numbers, St Johns, Wesley, W & J etc. It will always be tough for schools from the ODAC and other conferences to compete. Look at the parity over the past few years in D I with the 85 scholarship limit. So I guess we are not really talking Apples to Apples in the D III playoffs.

Well done Yellow Jacket fans! 8)

Good luck to the Raiders through the rest of the playoffs!  I'll be pulling for you as a good Methodist should! 8)

But most of all, I'd like to thanks the R-MC seniors who've had a heck of a four year ride.  The last two weeks have been a lot of fun, and I hoped they enjoyed every second of it.

Hard facts are available to those who purchased Kickoff 2008 -- the training camp roster size of all 239 teams is reported there.

RMC08

First I want to say congratulations to RMC who had one heck of a season.  Those guys struggled early in the season with some tough losses but got back on track.

Second, congrats to all the Seniors of the ODAC for finishing out fine careers in a great conference.  A special congratulations goes out to Josh Simpson and Josh Vogelbach who are both closing out record careers.  Thanks for all the excitement that all of you have brought to the leauge.

Congrats to Zak Thornton for his second straight rushing title.  Just wanted to let you ODAC readers to be aware of something:  Thornton only needs 58 carries and approximately 1,050 yards to break both the ODAC All-Time carries record and ODAC Career all-time yardage record.  Very do-able.

Now that the conference has wrapped up another season, lets start handing out some awards!  Any thoughts on COY and POY?

I wasn't trying to get into anyones "head."  I was simply posting my thoughts on THE GAME.   I know Simpson is banged up and he wasn't very effective last week but I think he will have a huge game, not to mention HSC has won 7 in a row and none of those games were really close (besides the mud bowl).  Not much of a rivalry when you lose 7 in a row.  The only way RMC has a chance is if they run the ball effectively with Thornton and force some turnovers, and HSC has been giving the ball away this year.

There hasn't been much talk so maybe my awards will get some reaction.  Let me know what you think.

Doobersons picks for postseason awards:

Offensive POY-
1st)-Keith Ricca (CUA) 30TD's to 9ints 163.5 Passing efficiency.  Off the charts the last few weeks.
2nd-Josh Simpson(HSC)
3rd- Stu Sitterson(W&L)
4th-Caleb Jennings(EHC)
5th-Kevin Vaughn (Guilford)..would be Vogelbach but he has 20 interceptions and is 4th in the ODAC in passing efficiency.

Defensive POY- Don't know much about the individual defensive players but did a little research.
1st-Nick Oliviera (CUA) Leads league in tackles and has been ODAC 1st team 3 years in a row.
2nd-Matt Baldwin (EHC)
3rd-Kevin Worley (EHC)
4th-Tommy Matteo (W&L) Best player on a bad defense.
5th- David Woo (CUA)

Rookie of the year.
1) Charlie Westfal (W&L)  Played very well as of late- Accounted for 13TDs.  Very smart and athletic player.  Has rushed for over 600 yards and made numerous outstanding plays all year.
2)T.J. Montague (BC)--This guy was all over the place against us.
3)Tyler Beiler (BC)
4)David Argaud (BC)
5)Kenneth Hyman (GC)

Coach of the year
1)Dave Dunn (CUA) Much improved CUA team.  Moved from the bottom to the top.  CUA was picked 6th in pre-season.
2)Don Montgomery (EHC)-Had his team playing above their talent.  Picked to finish last.

Hope CUA and HSC both wn this weekend.  Two teams would be a good showing for the ODAC.  Go Generals!

I still think Catholic will have the Offensive and Defensive POY with Ricca taking the offensive and Olievera taking the defensive.  Coach of the year is going to be the interesting one.  You can make a case for Dunn at CUA, Montgomery at EHC, and Aruza at RMC.  I think it will end up being Aruza for winning the ODAC (even though 6-4 is nothing special.)

I would also like to congratulate the seniors of the ODAC, especially Stu Sitterson, who had a great career for the Generals.

With all these records being broken this season, what do you think is the most unbreakable record in the ODAC?

As a good Methodist, what about pulling for anyone other than the Purple Raiders for the sake of showing mercy and compassion?!  :D

Anyone know when the ODAC coaches meet to pick the all-league team. Seems like it should be out by now.

My final congratulations to the Randolph-Macon College Yellow Jackets for winning the ODAC.  It certainly was an interesting season!  There's been a different AQ each of the past four years, so perhaps that speaks to league parity.  Someone posted that every ODAC team has gone to the NCAA tournament except Guilford, so hopefully the Quakers will get their chance some day as well (I think the 8-2 Quakers should have gone in 1997, but that was in the pre-AQ, 16-team format days ... so a topic for another day!  lol)  Anyway, all Macon coaches, players and fans have so much of which to be proud!   Kudos!

Congratulations to the CUA Cardinals on a terrific season and especially the seniors. These young men chose to attend a school that was 0-10 their senior year in high school and 4 years later they end their careers with a 9-2 record, a win in the ECAC bowl and 14 players receiving all-odac status (seven 1st teamers, five 2nd teamers and two HM). Special congrats to the Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year (Keith Ricca and Nick Olivero - who also is the scholar-athlete award winner). Both are 4-year starters who had outstanding careers and are very deserving of being chosen for these awards.

All-ODAC team:

Thanks.  By the way, the Guilford HM All-ODAC RB is Justin Parker, not Justin Park ... the ODAConline folks are going to make the correction.   I really enjoyed watching Justin run this season and predict he's going to be an even bigger part of the Quaker offense post-Vogelbach.
