Division makes for a good season in hoops. No division for other sports makes sense.

According to a subscriber-only story by Mike Craven in DCTF, Schreiner will announce Kenny Treschitta, DC at University of New England since 2016, as their first head coach later this morning.  Treschitta coached safeties at Catholic in 2015, from which he graduated in 2009 as a two-year starter at DB/LB.

Quote from: Ron Boerger on July 01, 2024, 04:14:14 PMWelp it's 3PM and no announcement ...

The SCAC shared a graphic on their social media from Schreiner welcoming the coach to Kerrville. Schreiner also does not currently have a full-time SID, so that could be part of the delay.

And Treschitta updated his Twitter profile.  https://x.com/CoachTreschitta

Couldn't find the SCAC mention on Twitter or Insta, but probably just me.

Yeah I found it through their stories on Facebook. Glad that things seem to be moving forward with their program after all; it feels like it's been a bit of a struggle, but it's going to obviously be extremely helpful.

Here's a YouTube vid of Schreiner's coaching announcement.  As expected, 2025 will be a JV squad, SCAC competition will start in 2026.  They'll play at Kerville Tivy's stadium for the foreseeable future.  Hopefully someone in Kerrville will update the website to reflect that they're starting a program and have a coach.

If you want to skip to the meat (e.g. past the thank you's. the historical overview of the program, the personal reminisces of the MC):
- President Dr. Charlie McCormick [7:40] (says they will add a drum and bugle corps as well as cheer)
- AD Bill Raleigh [11:15]
- Duane Hanberry [14:30] (who says he expects the SCAC to be the 'premiere football conference in the South and Southwest' which certainly the SAA would have something to say about, as well the ASC should it find a path forward)
- Former Schreiner and NFL footballer Dr. Charley Johnson (played in the last FB class, 1956) [16:15]
- McCormick again [16:45]
- New HC Kenneth (Kenny) Treschitta [20:00]
- Q&A [23:30]
--- start recruiting staff Nov-Dec "will be a one-man show until then"
--- season ticket sales will start next year

Indeed. It is a HUGE revenue generator for CNU football and basketball. CNU has ticket prices and a separate Seat Contribution requirement.

And they tie football in with basketball with amenities. Example: Football tickets are $75 for each season ticket. However, if you want reserved chairback that is an additional $400. Want to tailgate? Add $100. Want the deluxe package that includes the tickets, tailgate parking, access to VIP deck for football AND reception room at halftime for basketball? Make that $750 plus $75 per football ticket plus cost of basketball tickets.

There used to be a price for halftime access to the football suite, but I don't see that listed anywhere. Perhaps they did away with it when the Lexus VIP Deck was introduced 2 years ago.

I'm proud that Trinity has maintained free admission to all its sporting events for decades now.  I wish there was a way to charge visiting fans from teams who charge their visitors - if I have to put money into your program, it's only fair you return the favor.

Southwestern only charges for football, part of that comes from having to pay stadium rent to the GISD.  Schreiner charges for everything (soccer, volleyball, basketball, baseball, softball) though you can get a family pass for $40 that covers everything for a school year.  TLU charges for football, basketball, volleyball.  Austin and Colorado College don't charge for any athletic events.  Centenary only charges for football.  St. Thomas apparently charges a flat $5 for each athletic event.  University of Dallas charges only for "non-conference home games hosted in the Maher Center" which I guess would be basketball and volleyball.

Unfortunately, the SCAC is the latest to jump on the FloSports bandwagon.

According to the release only eight of the conferences's schools are a part of the cash grab.  Not unexpectedly, Trinity and Southwestern aren't (since they leave one year into this multi-year deal), but neither are Austin or TLU which certainly perked my ears up.  Conference championships will be held hostage, as well.

I don't give a good chunk of change to my alma mater's sports programs to have to pay a third-party in order to watch their broadcasts.

Also bizarre that this was announced by Flo Softball rather than the primary Flo sports account.

I guess I won't know since I won't be buying unless the ASC or UMHB does this but I have always wondered how this helps the school. Yes, they get money but if that money doesn't go towards improving the video production then I wouldn't be a huge fan.

UT is joining the SEC. They get an SEC welcome, and Sewanee gets a Cameo in this week's SEC Shorts.
