I just got back from the Cortland- Plattsburgh game and what a game it was.  It seemed like every inning Cortland went up a run or 2 and then PLattsburgh matched them but would never take the lead.   Plattsburgh played some small ball in the first half of the game then started hitting the long ball late.  Joe Curcio hit a 2-run homer in the seventh to tie the game up.  Then freshman second baseman Pat Sheanacy (sp?) hit a solo homer to dead center in the 8th to tie it up again.  That must have felt good for him after making an error at second with one out and runners on the corners in the top of the 8th.  Then Curcio hit his second homer of the day in the bottom of the 9th on a 2-2 fastball and one out for the walk off.  He hit both his home runs to right center.

Billy Davis threw 3 2/3 quality innings in relief for his second career win vs. Cortland.   Tyler Green pitched 6 1/3 innings of solid ball and just kept Plattsburgh in it.

Now they need atleast one vs. Oswego and still have their 4 top starters ready to pitch.

After losing the first game 12-3, Plattsburgh showed a lot of heart in the come from behind victory headlined by the walk-off homerun by Joe Curcio in the bottom of the 9th, his second of the day. How about seeing a combined 4 homeruns at Chip Cummings Field in a double-header (Reynolds in the first game, Shaughnessy in the second game, and 2 for Curcio in the second game)? It was a special treat for the fans and a record breaking day. A lot of credit should also be given to the game 2 starter Tyler Greene and relief pitcher Billy Davis. Davis pitched a combined 8 innnings in the doubleheader and was the winning pitcher once again in the second game (Davis won against Cortland in Game 2 at The Chipper in 2007). Good Luck to the Cardinals tomorrow vs. Oswego! They need to win atleast one game to get in the tournament, but two would put the icing on the cake. Either way they can only get the number 4 seed, so it looks like they'll match up with Cortland in the first round of the SUNYAC'S if they are able to win tomorrow! Should be exciting!

So that is how you spell Shaughnessy.  I knew i spelt it wrong but was just to lazy to look it up.  As far as the Home Runs go, i wasn't there for the first game but did hear someone on Cortland hit one to the right of the scoreboard in left center field.  Any ball hit out of Chip CUmmings field is a legit shot and would be out at any field in the confrence.  For anyone that doesn't know, it is 350 down the lines and 402 to center.  Not very often a ball gets out of their so seeing 4 in one day was close to unbelievable.   In the second game, Cortland's leadoff batter hit a ball that RF Shwind caught at the fence.  That is a ball out almost anywhere else but instead he ended up with F9.

For moe up to date news, looks like Plattsburgh won the first game vs. Oswego to clinch the final spot in the playoffs.  The winning pitcher looked like freshman pitcher Dan Tracy in relief.  Final score, according to the live link was 6-5.

According to LiveStats and the SUNYAC page, Plattsburgh gets the sweep over Oswego, 6-5 and 10-9.

Therefore, here's the set-up for this coming weekend in Cortland.

1. Cortland
2. Fredonia
3. Brockport
4. Plattsburgh

I believe (Fran please correct me if I'm wrong) that Brockport gets the higher seed because it split with Fredonia while Plattsburgh was swept by Fredonia.

The first round games will be rematches from this weekend's Saturday doubleheaders, go figure.

Just got in from the weekend.  Field is set, and Cortland are the hosts.  Nothing new. I like Brockport and Cortland to win the openers.  Of course if Plattsburgh hits enough balls to the left side of the infield they might beat Cortland.  Their infield defense resembles a bad Little League team.

Cortland swept a doubleheader from Mt. St. Vincent today, 13-8 and 15-4. Both the offense and defense were solid throughout the day with the only down spot being the pitching. Nick Blanco yielded only two hits in four innings but he walked five and allowed four runs.

The Dragons have added a Wednesday date against Utica for what I guess would be a "Senior Day" with the conference tournament taking place this weekend.

Given the national Pool C situation, the Dragons may need to win the conference tournament to move on to Farmingdale.

John,

You are correct as to why Brockport is the #3 seed and Plattsburgh is the #4 seed. Since they split head-to-head, you then look at how they did vs. #1 (both split vs. Cortland). You then look at their results vs. #2 (Brockport was 1-1 vs. Fredonia, Plattsburgh was 0-2).

Here's the tourney schedule:

Friday - May 1
Game 1: (#2) Fredonia vs. (#3) Brockport, 12 p.m.
Game 2: (#1) Cortland vs. (#4) Plattsburgh, 3:30 p.m.

Saturday - May 2
Game 3: Loser Game 1 vs. Loser Game 2, 10 a.m.
Game 4: Winner Game 1 vs. Winner Game 2, 1 p.m.
Game 5: Winner Game 3 vs. Loser Game 4, 4 p.m.

Sunday - May 3
Game 6: Winner Game 4 vs. Winner Game 5, 12 p.m.
(second game to follow, if needed, at appx. 3:30 p.m.)

Tell you what, I certainly won't miss that Friday morning game at 10:00 am.

FranElia

I agree with you John - I like it better now that we have the three games on Saturday instead of Friday. I think it's good that no one is eliminated on the first day, and I think if people want to watch the three-game day, Saturday's a better day for that.

Bob Maxwell

With no 10:00 am game,    ???    what am I going to do with the extra 2 hours in the morning?  guess I can sleep in until 7:00.. as I don't have to leave at 6:30 to get there.     ;D

I like the elimination game being moved to Saturday morning.. that was a BIG imporvement last year.  AND it gives each of the teams a chance to be there for 2 days.

See you Friday...

StagnantFLY

It should be a good weekend up in Cortland....Good luck to all teams. Any teams breathing a sigh of relief that they dont have to face Juedes and Filak?

MY PREDICTIONS
1. Cortland 12
vs
4. Platsburgh 4

2. Fredonia 6
vs
3. Brockport 7

Day 2
Fredonia beats Plattsburgh 9-6 to eliminate them
Cortland beats Brockport 7-4
Brockport beats Fredonia 11-7

Championship
Cortland vs Brockport
Cortland Wins 8-4

Any guesses as to what the pitching matchups will be the first day? I think it will be Carlson vs. Shannon and Ratliff vs. Oleary. Anyone think differently?

John McGraw

Not a good day to be a pitcher in Oneonta.

Ithaca 15 Oneonta State 14

Hits: 21-13 Ithaca

Errors: 4-4

The two will play again on Wednesday in Ithaca.

cstate19

Oneonta playing two tough non-conference games against IC.  I like that.

I think Matt Kelley throws versus Cortland. Give the senior the ball and try to beat Cortland.  Come back in game 2 with the freshman O'Leary who has been their best pitcher so far this year.  Experience in Game 1.

Bob Maxwell

cstate19, good call on the Kelly pitching, I like the idea... and that leaves O'Leary for game two no matter where you go.  Chance to get into finals OR best going to keep you alive.
