Coach Ferchen for SUNYAC coach of the Year....job well done this year Rick. Nobody has done less with more than him, this team should be hosting the SUNYACs yet they are not even in them. I see they will be playing Hamilton on Championship Sunday instead, really got to feel for Steve Juedes.

Game 2 - cortland 10 Plattsburgh 0 (Bottom 5)

Tough game today for the Cardinals falling to Cortland 10-6. Considering the howling winds and the rain delay I thought they showed a lot of heart staging a comeback. Their relievers (Greene and Noonan) shut them down, as they allowed only 1 hit in 4 innings. Billy Davis had a tough time, but I'm confident that he'll be able to bounce back tomorrow if needed. It's tough when you give up big runs early but I have a lot of confidence in them tomorrow as they face Fredonia. They've seen Carlson before and they have momentum leading into that game, which could prove to be an advantage. They have a great lineup that's ready to go and I have a lot of confidence in John Campbell if that's who they decide to go with. Goodluck tomorrow Cards!!!

The "in-region" folks love that Fredonia loss.

Those in region losses happen in every conference tournament.  And teams that are "favorites" who don't win their conference tournament love others to fall too!

O'Leary was hit pretty hard yesterday, and when he came out of the game as early as he did, I wondered if he would come back again today... I don't think he threw that many pitches (25-30?).  But I do think it is going to be Campbell going first... with O'Leary coming back for the second game if they can win the first one.  It is too bad that Matt Kelly got spiked last week as his bat is missed... and despite the ERA, he is a senior who has shown he can pitch in this league.

I think it is an obvious choice that Carlson goes for Fredonia... I was mildly surprised that he didn't pitch yesterday against Brockport.  But Saeva did a very good job... he was strong throughout the game.

I have to say that Jason Shannon did a great job for Brockport yesterday too.  IMO, he is one of the best pitchers in the conference... any time he is on the mound against you; you are in for a tough day with the bat.  He is much better then his 5-4 record and ERA indicate.  And I have to say good job to Joe Zaccardo for his day at the plate... He has hit the ball hard all year, and did it again yesterday.

Also, the front end of Cortland's batting order was very good yesterday... Gardner, Avery, Jackson and Nickel hit several ball right on the screws... If they continue to hit and the bull pen comes through they are going to be a tough out.  With Tone on the mound I don't think to many teams are going to beat Cortland.. espeically if they hit as they did before the rain yesterday.

I think that the pitching match up in the second game today will be Gentzke vs Ratliff.   Coach Brown seems to like to throw lefties against Brockport.

Wish we were there again today, but other obligations won't let us be there...

Dan Tracy going for Plattsburgh... Campbell is in CF.

The Plattsburgh live stats are linked from the SUNYAC baseball page.  Here is the link to the SUNYAC page:

Nice win for Plattsburgh and another late inning come from behind win.  They have no quite in them.

As an alumni, i feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders with this win and i am sure Doorey feels great about it but come 4 o'clock today, it will be a distant memory.  Congrats Cards but you still have more ball to play.  I don't want to see any of them until Sunday night!

I would also like to say nice season to Fredonia.   For the past couple years you could see their potential and they finally broke out this year and the next couple years should be interesting with 5 teams now going into the season expecting to make the SUNYAC's.

FIERY CARDINAL ATTACK ICES BLUE DEVILS!

CORTLAND, NY- The Plattsburgh State baseball team wins its first ever game in the SUNYAC tournament under the tenure of Coach Kris Doorey! After a shaky start by freshmen pitcher Dan Tracy, fellow freshmen Matt O'Leary and Senior Matt Kelley came in relief and shut the door on Fredonia's run scoring. The Cardinals proved that they had the heart to come from behind and felt the sense of urgency in the elimination game. Down 6-4 in the 8th inning, Senior Kyle Kowalowski started the inning with a single, followed by an Andrew Gooch double. Senior Joe Curcio then doubled to score them both, tying the score 6-6. Before the inning was over, Junior Andrew Baio hit a pinch-hit double to score Erik Schwind and Matt Burns, that put the Cardinals ahead for good 8-6.

The Cardinals 15-hit attack was lead by Senior Kyle Kowalowski, 3 hits, 2 runs, 1 rbi, and Senior Joe Curcio, 2 hits, 3 rbi's. Tory Bouyea, Andrew Gooch and Matt burns also chipped in with two hits apiece.

The Blue Devils were paced by J. Borst, 2 hits, 2 runs, 1 rbi and J. Basile, 1 hit, 1 run, 2 rbi's.

(WP) Matt Kelley, (LP) R. Carlson

Next up for the Cardinals is the loser of the Cortland/Brockport game, with a scheduled start time of approx. 4 P.M. Good Luck Cardinals!!!

Wow. Looks like Brockport if up 6-5 on Cortland in the middle of the sixth.

Cortland wins 11-6...
Avery clears the bases with a triple

Cortland's A. Gardner huge day .....two hr, a 3bh and single, 4 rbi, 4 runs from leadoff slot. Opens game with roundtripper. His two-run hr to center overcomes Bport lead, and his intentional bb precedes Avery clinching three bagger .... Defensively, errorless contest

Congratulations to Cortland for winning the SUNYAC Tournament today!  It was quite an exciting game to listen to.
Best of luck in the Regionals at SUNY Farmingdale!

Also, congratulations to the All-Tournament Team:
Andrew Gooch (Plattsburgh), Jason Michaels (Brockport), Mike Meola (Brockport), Jason Shannon (Brockport), J.J. Potrikus (Cortland), A.J. Carney (Cortland), Jason Simone (Cortland), Mike Avery (Cortland), Andersen Gardner (Cortland)

WAY TO GO!

As i said at the beginning of the yr, too much pitching depth for Cortland! Brockport gave it a go but the losers bracket is unforgiving on a pitching staff!

Looking at Cortland, If the top 6 guys hit at the regional like they did at the sunyac tourney, Cortland will be a tough out!
Defense seems to be coming around a bit and the bullpen did the job. add in the hot hitting and you have a good recipe for success in the post season.
Regional predictions anyone??????
In sports it's not how you start, its how you finish!
