John.....

I drive to Rochester 4-5 times a year.  5 Hours is Cleveland for me!!  Just put on some Aero Smith, Zeppelin, Nickleback, Toby Keith, and Super Tramp, and you'll be there in no time!

What players from the SUNYAC will receive All Region Honors?
When does the All region team come out?

To be honest....I believe Cortland should pitch their #2 or # 3 pitcher vs Clarkson. Save Tone for a win the next game. It looks like Cortland is gonna be 2-0 pretty easily.
Thoughts?

I think it's quite possible that Clarkson's Ace (pitkin) could throw a solid game against Cortland.  If Tone doesn't throw game one I expect this game to be a battle.  I think it was a few years ago Cortland was losing to Rhode Island College (6 seed) in the 9th inning because they seemed to take them lightly early on.  I'd start my number one and if Cortland gets a big lead they can yank him early and throw him on short rest later on.  I will not be surprised if Cortland wins this regional but I will not be surprised at all if they don't.

cortland did a good job against clarkson and pitkin early in the year.   7 earned runs in 3 innings.. Tone with the win..... lets repeat   go red dragons

Oh I've driven five hours before, that's not that bad. When I did football at Cortland, we usually had beautiful four-to-five hour drives down to New Jersey for afternoon football games.

A few weeks ago I drove seven hours out to Cape Cod and back for a family vacation and every time I go with my girlfriend to see her family, it's six hours or so down to the Jersey shore.

Longest drives in no particular order 1) 12 hours, Syracuse to Virginia Beach, Va., by way of Philadelphia for the Women's Final Four around 4-5yrs ago. 2) 8-9 hours, Syracuse to Radford, Va., several times a few years ago from when I lived down there. 3) 8-9 hours, Syracuse to Brunswick, Maine, for Women's Sectional Hoops at Bowdoin. 4) 8-9 hours, Syracuse to Alliance, Ohio for a Mount Union playoff game.

Most of those have been solo though I was lucky to have Gordon Mann with me for the second leg of the drive down to Va. beach.

The original plan for this weekend was go to down to Lakewood to cover the Mid-Atlantic regional at the beautiful A-ball park. I have family not too far from there so it would've worked out perfectly. But, mylaptop decided to melt down last week so that kind of shot that plan. I didn't have the cash or time to get it fixed, so, I'll be spending a weekend on the shore, keeping an eye on the scores.

I drove this past Thursday afternoon to Erie, Pa and then on to Troy early early Friday to catch the LL games.  I hate driving at night, especialy around sunset and right before sun-up.  To many dead deer, especially with a full moon.  I travel a lot for business, by car and plane, but mostly car.  I thought I was a Road Warrior.  It looks like you have a lot more "wheel time" than I do.

Ooof, that's a haul. Erie's a good four-to-five hours from here.

Most of my driving is done during daylight hours if possible, I don't like to drive long distances alone at night. Sometimes it's unavoidable but I don't like to do it. Dead deer and other various animals in upstate New York are a real possibility.

That being said, I'd rather drive for six hours than sit in the passenger seat.

Pitkin did a great job against Rochester, keeping them off-balance with his arm angle deliveries and how quickly he worked or varied his time between pitches.  Most of our guys were out in front on him.  They hit the ball, but at people.  He reminded me of Glushon from Emory a few years ago when UR played them at the UAA tournament in Florida.  With no disrespect to either Pitkin or Glushon, not over-powering, but could locate it fairly well.

BTW, in case anyone's interested. Both Dimino brothers are playing in the NYCBL this summer. One is listed from Cortland, another Monroe CC.

I guess that means that there's a chance they may be back at Cortland next season or at another school.

Looks like we have a Mike Avery situation all over again.  Brockport's Kris Gentzke is headed to Cortland St. to play for the Red Dragons next year.  Good move Kris, can't blame you for wanting a shot at playing for a national championship.  Best of luck!

Smithers

Starvin,

That sounds real interesting, Kris is a very solid player and will def help the Red Dragons this year...my only question is where? With both Diminos coming back, Jason Simone, Kevin Jackson, Pezzuto and John Zilnicki all there, on top of any guys Coach Brown has coming in, that OF seems awfully crowded. Seems like he might be best suited for the mound at Cortland. Doesnt look like Kris is getting much time this summer in the NYCBL, not sure which team he is on, but his stats dont look like he is playing much. Too bad the Red Dragons didn't land a consistent playing SS or do they have anyone coming in to fil the void there?

Does anyone have any other news on any players coming into the SUNYAC?

Kudos to Dave Filak, looks like he is pitching very well this summer in the NYCBL.

Any early projections for the SUNYAC's? Sounds to me like the Red Dragons might just be reloading after a "down" year for them...

Hope the summer is going well for everyone, before we know it will be SUNYAC season

Nick Blanco has apparently signed with the Can Am League's American Defenders of New Hampshire. He's not listed on their web site roster yet but the signing is noted on the league's transactions page.

I thought he had eligibility left but I forgot about the two years he did at FDU.

How in the world could Coach Beach at Brockport let Kris Gentzke just walk out the door, let alone to another school within the conference? Kris looked to be the main run producer/arm coming back on that team. What is going on at Brockport, that place looks to be crumbling to ruins.

It's not like this is anything new in terms of a player leaving one SUNYAC program and going to Cortland. Offhand, Anthony Coromato from Oswego and Mike Avery from Brockport come to mind as two players that started elsewhere and ended up at Cortland. And I'm sure over the years there have been others and there will be more.

For the most part, Cortland is competing for a national championship every season. I'm sure that allure has a lot to do with it.

BaseB13

Do these guys just transfer on a whim without talking to anyone at Cortland?  That would seem pretty bold to leave a program where you're playing all the time without some type of discussion with the coach at the school you're transferring to.  Then again, I don't think you're technically allowed to talk to players at other schools until they've withdrawn from the school or been released...?

banalyst

Has anyone heard about Cortland this year or Brockport and how they will be with players. Speaking of transfers from both schools, Kris Gentske and Mike Avery both went to Brockport and ended up going to Cortland, but Brockport did get a Cortland guy this there as well. Palmiero ended up transferring last I heard so Brockport did end up getting a solid infielder it should be interesting when the two teams play eachother.

P.S. Matt Tone is tearing it up in Single A!
