Did Coach Brown sneak in a D1 transfer from LSU late in the game who was not on the roster??  Or maybe it was Bryce Harper!!

ballsy

looked like brown pulled lefty batter (jackson) out of game for righty batter (Gentske) .  brockport changed to righty pitcher and brown re enters Jackson?????

So im confused how is that Joe Browns fault?  Were there no umpires there? Seems to me to be some sour grapes

I remember this tactic. Coach Brown pulled the same switcheroo in the 2006 regionals against Eastern Connecticut State. Bill Holowaty was very quick on the trigger for match-ups and would, at least in the tournament, go out to the mound before the batter reached the plate to change pitchers. I think this may have been in the title game also. Cortland I think is losing and Dan Maycock is either scheduled to bat or in the on-deck circle. Coach Holowaty doesn't want his pitcher facing Maycock so he goes for the switch. Coach Brown possibly counters and another batter comes out of the dugout and takes some swings though is never announced and never gets up to the plate.

Once everything is settled, Maycock trots up to the plate to face the relief pitcher. Obviously, Eastern is livid because it had appeared that Cortland was sending up a pinch hitter in place of Maycock. Though the sub wasn't announced and never entered the batters' box. That said, Maycock ending up getting out anyways so the switcheroo went for naught and Cortland lost.

Interesting stuff.

If we're reading this correctly, pretty cut and dried. If Brown's replacement player not yet announced into the game through the umpire, and on his official lineup card, original player still in the game. Sounds like Port jumped the gun with pitching change before Cortland replacement officially entered the game. Tis why coaches first approach ump and check out official lineup. Are we missing something? Common stuff, at least the way we approached it.

Cortland blows out Fredonia 16-1 in game 1 and Brockport's Lock throws a no-hitter vs Oswego, 3-0

Yeah, perfectly legal as long as the hitter never checks in with the umpire or is never announced.

First off,I appreciate your interpretation of the events that took place prior to the protest. But what if the alleged pinch hitter stepped into the batters box and what if he was announced into the game? I think it's worth checking into.I'm not sure this is "common stuff". With any individual or program their reputation  preceeds them. I think most people know JB would do anything within his power to win as would most coaches. Lets just make sure the rules were followed.Which is why we will let the judicial process work!

163,

Im just not clear here on how this protest is going to work. Like everyone else is saying it seems pretty cut and dry, the player was never checked into the game officially and it seems like Brockports Head Coach pullled the trigger a bit to qucik to bring in his reliever. He made a mistake and jumped the gun a bit to quick.

Kudos to Brockport for jumping back and getting two on SUnday, easily could have been a let down day for them.

In your scenario, "was announced into the game" by whom? The PA announcer (yeah, you Fran) or the PA upon order of the umpire. Umpire making the move official is critical. Or maybe they have some sort of reentry rule$%&? Does SUNYAC still allow courtesy running for catcher to speed things up?

Were you at the game, or like us getting second-hand info? And, yes, if there's someone who knows the rules and makes them work for his side it's JB

John McGraw

The umpire has to announce the player into the game as he is either apprised of the move by the pinch hitter or the head coach. If the umpire does not signal the player into the game and inform the PA announcer and official scorer, then said player is not in the game.

The PA announcer usually goes on the umpires signal for substitutions but as someone that has done PA for baseball and softball, occasionally, you announce the sub before the umpires signal. Ninety-nine times out of 100 it's not a big deal since the move is made and Player X comes into pinch hit. That's what happened here.

Brockport will get another chance at Cortland in the playoffs, they can get back at them then.

Dont sleep on brockport this year. They have played a tough half first of the season and have played very well. 14-9 Overall and 11-3 in region. Out of the 9 losses 4 have been in extra innings losses and 7 have been decided by 1 run. Cortland better look out because we all know that brockport is a end of the year team and although they did get swept by cortland the first game was the catalyst and being at cortland we all know they are going to get the calls to go thier way. Zimmerman, McCormick,  have been swinging hot bats and pitching staff has been very impressive besides cortland outing. Congrats to Steve Locke on throwing the frist no hitter in brockport history yesterday. Lots of good players have come before keep it up brockport. Were all pulling for you to dethrone the dragons.
