Cortland starts the bottom of the 8th with a leadoff walk and Point's coach has now went to his bullpen for the 1st time. Maybe the Red Dragons will fare better against this guy.

Steve Nickel hits a fly ball to right that gets by the outfielder allowing Gardner to score and Nickel ends up on third. Next batter hits a grounder that scores Nickel. Now 8-6 with no one on and 1 out.

Khyle Dimino walks with 1 down and steals 2nd. Tying run comes to plate.

Kris Gentzke walks. Now runners on 1st and 2nd with the go ahead run coming to bat.
Pinch hitter for Cortland, Kevin Jackson now up.

Jackson draws a walk and the bases are now loaded with 1 out. Pointers coach now making another pitch change. Tyler Lorenz, the pitcher Point is replacing came in with a runner on 1st and gave up a triple (that should probably have been a single) then retired a batter on a ground out followed by 3 straight walks.

New pitcher for Point Ryan Iverson comes in and walks Damon Arnold, the 1st batter he faces to make it 8-7.

Matt June hits a line drive at the shortstop, who snags it and throws to 3rd doubling up Kris Gentzke and ending the Cortland rally.

Cortland pitcher Mike Mahay retires the Pointer in the top of the ninth on a flyout, a lineout, a base hit and another flyout. Mahay who came on in the top of the 6th with 2 down did a great job holding the Pointers scoreless for three and a third innings. He gave up 4 hits with 1 strikeout and no walks.

Cortland starts the bottom of the ninth with a leadoff single by Adam Dimino. The catcher throws down to 1st trying to pick off Dimino but throws the ball into right field and Dimino goes down to 2nd. Anderson Gardner sacrifices Dimino over to 3rd and Steve Nickel is at the plate. Intentional walk issued to Nickel to try and set up the double play. Billy Ribeiro in to pinch run for Nickel. New pitcher in the game for the Pointers and Jason Simone at the plate. 3-0 count and Simone delivers a base hit up the middle to tie it up. Yeah!!! Red Dragons!!!

Khyle Dimino walks to load the bases with still 1 out. Kris Gentze at the plate to try and win it for Cortland.

Gentze trys to call time but the ump doesn't give it to him and he jumps back in the box but swings and misses and strikes out.

John Zilnicki raps a ball into right field that the Point outfielder can't catch up to and Cortland wins it 9-8. What a comeback for the Red Dragons!!!!!  Great job guys.

Thanks for the updates.  Not the outcome I'd hoped for.

Story of this game looks to be Cortland's big late inning rallies and missed opportunities early for Point.

Any stats on Point's LOB for the game?

PointSpecial,

You're not gonna like this stat. Pointers left 15 men on base.  Read my next post that's coming right up.

Cortland got behind early in this game because of all the free passes issued to the Pointers in the 1st 3 innings. 4 of those free passes ended up scoring. They also had a runner score in the 6th that led off the inning and got on base because of an error.

But it's funny how things seem to even out as Cortland scored a run in the 4th that was from a leadoff walk. They scored a run in the 5th that was from a runner that got on base due to a leadoff error. They scored 2 more runs in the 8th that were a direct result of 5 walks issued by Pointer pitchers in that inning and the eventual winning run in the 9th was scored by Billy Ribeiro who came in to pinch run for Steve Nickel who was, you guessed it,  intentionally walked!!

Who does Cortland turn to for the next game, now that Ratliff, Brown and Mahay pitched today. Ratliff didn't throw much but obviously that finger isn't going to heal up in a day or 2 so he's probably out. Either Mike Assman, Scott Hartling or Brendan Hourihan. I'm thinking Assman.

I am a big Cortland fan and I also can't understand howthose four gouys are somewhat ignored, especially outside the region

I would hope that you're a big Cortland fan since you play for the team or are the father of someone on the team :-)
Yes John - a Proud Father

My guess is Assman, Hartling would probably be game 3 and Hourihan has been a stud in long relief and would also come in early if anyone else runs into trouble like today.  Don't forget Derosa, who may have been Cortland's most reliable pitcher overall this year.

Wow, what an ugly game from a pitching standpoint.  You would think in game one with the aces on the mound you would see a much better pitched game than that.  Ugly.  Good win for the Dragons, for some reason as stated earlier i like their chances this year because they simply haven't been thought of as a national contender all year.  This is the quietest top 10 Cortland team that I can remember in regards to their chances of winning.

Nice to see Cortland is off to a good start at the World Series. Hopefully they can get another one today and be in the drivers seat after two games. I think this Cortland team is really good. Not sure where they compare with some of their previous teams, but I have been impressed.
GO FISHER!!!

ballsy

they are gettin spanked right now......tough hole to climb out of using lots of arms

Cortland 11, Linfield 25.  Ouch.
