I am not a football expert, and this is the baseball board... and it is the start of baseball season.

But a thought on the 9 team NJAC football conference.  Perhaps they will only play 6 or 7 conference games and give each team a chance for 2-3 OOC games to continue traditional rivalries (i.e. Cortland-Ithaca).

Some other conferences do that where they don't play everyone each year and rotate it around annually to let teams play non-conference games.  And for many conferences and schools it is important to play some strong non-conference games to gain recognition...

OK, back to baseball....  a lot of rain today!   :(

Center fielder Rob Sumner of New Jersey City University and righthander
Jake Dennstedt of the State University of New York-Brockport have been
named the NCAA Division III National Hitter of the Week and Pitcher of
the Week for March 12-18, 2007, as chosen by representatives of the
National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

Dennstedt, a senior from Churchville, N.Y., went 2-0 with a 0.00 earned
run average on the week.  He started two games and pitched 13 scoreless
innings, including a complete-game shutout in a win over Kean.  He
pitched six innings in a 6-1 win over Dickinson, allowing only one
unearned run.  In his two appearances, he struck out five and walked
three.  Dennstedt was named Pitcher of the Week in the SUNY Athletic
Conference.

Huh? Flexibility in scheduling? Anyone following Cortland football over the years has to get a chuckle from that. What the NJAC has done (and why the Corts are there) is for a schedule. Red Dragons couldn't get one in NY. Played nine game chart for several seasons because teams wouldn't play them. Anyone aboard football board for any length of time knows my views on this subject. Ugh!!!! Most privates won't play the publics. NYS has been ready-made for a super conference for years. Never happened. Won't happen. Cortaca Jug remains.  Then Cortland has nine game NJAC schedule. By gosh, that's 10 games!!!!!

Now back to the diamond. Oh, wait, we're in a bit of a weather delay, methinks

Jim,

thanks for the good news on Dennstedt... I came here before looking on the Brockport page.  One correction... his complete game was against the other KEENE.

Jdex,
Interesting...  Guess I am caught up in the D-I scheduling thinking of the mid-major type.  Didnt' realize there was the difficulty with non-conference games for some schools.  Thanks... for the information.

Yes, a couple days of rain delays in the area...

Big weekend for the SUNYAC on the national scene... as mentioned by scuba and Cstate, Cortland beat Montclair 5-1!

Also, Brockport beat Marrietta, 8-3!

And while they're not a SUNYAC team, they are from NY so another big win was RPI over Monclair, 1.0...

Cortland wins again. Kind of figures that the year I'm not covering them is the year they get off to a hot start.

Brockport's DH with Mount Union today was cancelled. Scheduling mix-up I guess since Mount is playing John Carroll today in a conference game.

Bob Maxwell

John,

What happened with the Brockport - Mount Union double header is that MU's conference game with John Carrl on Saturday was rained out.  And apparently they have a conference rule that says you have to make up any rained out games on the next open (non-conferenc) weekend date available.  Which happened to be the day they had a Dh schedeuled with an out of state team.

Seems to be a little short sighted to me... As I don't think that they (or any one in their conference for that matter) will get many games scheduled in the future with teams from outside of their immediate area with that arrangement.  A team travels into the area and you pull the plug on the games?
