Plattsburgh splits with Baruch, losing 10-8 and winning 8-2

Cortland beat Wheaton (Mass.) today 4-3 on a Matt June walkoff basehit.
C-State wraps up Florida trip with 7-1 record.  Overall Cortland is 7-4.
This was Wheaton's season opener.

Cortland edged Wheaton with three runs in the bottom of the ninth. RDragons led 1-0 with a score in the fourth but fell behind 2-1 in the eighth and 3-1 in the top of the ninth. CSt winning rally featured three walks and two hit batters to produce a run, then M. June's decisive two-run single over a drawn-in infield. June 2x5, Z. Graczyk 2x4. But it was pitching that drew much Cortland attention. Starter M. Hughes in 7.1 innings gave up 4h, 2bb while fanning 11. B. Hourihan followed with three Ks, T. Nagy adding a pair and being the benefactor of the win. Ranked Wheaton opening its season

Also Saturday, New Paltz twice downed SUNY Purchase, 7-2, 13-8. Plattsburgh lost to St. Joe's, NY 8-1 before taking the nightcap 12-5

Good trip for Cortland.  Tough to put a record up like they did with the competition they played.  Looks like the Dragons can pitch it.

Plattsburgh and Fredonia open SUNYAC play in Florida today with a double header.  Fredonia wins the 1st game 8-3 as they came from behind by scoring 7 runs in the last 2 innings. Sean Larson (started and went 7 innings) and Kyle Grey were on the mound for the Blue Devils with Grey getting the win in relief.

Plattsburgh won the 2nd game 8-1 behind a 4 hit, complete game effort by Tyler Green. Both teams are 4-6 overall and 1-1 in the conference. They will play again on Thursday afternoon at 3 PM.

Cortland notches fifth straight win with 6-4 win at Staten Island. A. Schuldt gets the mound decision on the victorious side with seven innings of eight-hit ball. Yields three runs, none earned, with nine strikeouts and no walks. B. Hourihan goes 1.1 scoreless innings with two whiffs. Gets first out in the ninth and gives way to T. Nagy who allows two hits and a run before fanning two to end the game. RDragons score first with two-run fourth on onetime Tulane performer B. Barry's two BI double. SI gets three in its fourth when two errors precede two doubles and a single. Corts tie it in the fifth and go ahead on T. Panetta's sac fly in the seventh. Lead extends to 5-3 in the eighth when M. June SF follows M. LaTempa triple. C. Jackson homers in the ninth. Barry 3x3 with the double plus a triple, and scores once. Jackson 2x4 and scores once. Z. Graczyk 2x4. R. Anderson goes the distance for SI, 6-6. Corts 8-4 and play two Saturday at Purchase, and meet Mt. St. Vincent Sunday at Concordia's Concordia College. Schuldt 3-0 on the season for 22nd ranked Corts.

Also Friday, Plattsburgh twice downs Lakeland College 7-6, 2-1. New Paltz sweeps Gettysburg 4-0, 6-4. Oswego tames Suffolk U, MA 11-4. Fredonia beats Skidmore 4-1, 7-0

Cortland wins are both seven inning affairs. In the opening 11-1 romp the RDragons bang out 13 safeties and build a 5-0 lead in the first at Purchase on M. June's rbi double, PJ Rinaldi's two-run single and B. Mistretta's rbi single. Rinaldi finishes 2x3, 2r, 3bi; Mistretta 2x4, 2bi; June 2x3, 2bh, bi. Transfer R. Angelucci (3-1) goes 5 innings in a 2h, 1r, 1er, 4bb, 9k performance. In the 3-1 nightcap, J. Molloy (2-0) pitches 4.1 innings and yields 1r, 3h, 1bb with 1k. Three relievers follow, Z. Badanas with the save. Z. Graczyk knocks in a first inning run and Mistretta's single adds the second score in the fourth when a groundout notches the third. Purchase scores in the bottom of the fourth. M. LaTempa 2x3, 2 2bh. CSt 10-4, Purchase 7-8
