Good luck to the Cortland Red Dragons and Oswego Lakers today in the New York Regional. Like to see both SUNYAC teams do some early damage.

Cortland rallies for 6-4 win over upstart Oberlin, which leads 4-3 through six innings behind soph K. Dominy. Strands 11 RDragons on five hits through seven innings. Dominy leaves in eighth and successor walks two. V. Bomasuto single delivers tying run and A. Simon base knock puts Corts ahead. Error produces sixth run. B. Serio serves up 140 pitches for CSt before leaving for A. Brant. Oberlin Yeomen far from intimidated by No. 1 Cortland who take 3-0 lead through the second inning before under Dominy spell. Cortland on to Thursday 4:30 game vs. Amherst. Oberlin in 10 a.m. elimination game vs. Oswego

Oswego snuffed out in 11th 7-5 by Amherst in 3 1/2 hour match. Some interesting Lakers' baserunning not a help. Lord Jeffs with 17 hits and nearly out of pitchers. Little-used arm stops OSt over final two frames. Oswego with 14 hits. B. Karinchak hurls the first eight frames. P. Brown finishes. Lakers rally from 5-3 hole to tie matters in the bottom of the ninth. Could have had more and settled things then but for a wandering runner ....Oswego will return for first game Thursday. Amherst awaits Cortland/Oberlin winner for 4:30 Thursday contest

Watched much of the Cortland game and must admit  was nervous over the outcome. Glad to see the Red Dragons come back and get the win.

Oswego should have won their game in the bottom of the 9th but for the lead runner getting picked off 2nd when there was 2 men on and no outs. Runner on 2nd got caught in a pickle so the runner on first ran over to 2nd and the runner caught in the pickle made it back to 2nd, but 2 men on 1 base never works. Umps called the guy that was on first, out and the Lakers subsequently got 2 runs, to tie the game and force extra frames. That guy that was called out would have been the 3rd and winning run. Not his fault though as the blame is squarely on the runner that was on 2nd and wandered too far from the bag to begin with.

All in all a good day for the NY region.  Cortland, RPI and Old Westbury win (Old Westbury was a big surprise over Baldwin Wallace).  Oswego certainly had their chances to make it a NY sweep but with that said the Cortland game could/should have gone the other way.  3-1 isn't bad though!

Didn't realize it until I looked at the box score last night but Oswego stranded 16 runners on base. Combine that with some very aggressive base running that did not pay off and there you go. Give Amherst credit though, the Jeffs made some wise defensive plays and hit the ball all over the field with some key situational hits. Cortland-Amherst should be a pretty good this afternoon.

Meanwhile, the Lakers will have their hands full with Oberlin and if they are able to beat the Yeomen, they'll get either Keystone or Baldwin Wallace tomorrow.

Cortland back from the dead to win 7-5 verdict from Amherst in winners bracket contest. RDragons unglued and trailing 5-0 into the seventh inning get two-run home run from V. Bomasuto, then score five times in the top of the ninth as Jeffs come undone. Bomasuto single produces the third run. Amherst relief choice shaky to say the least. Hit batter fills the bases. A. Clock one-out full-count walk notches the fourth run. F. Ricci single to left ties it and M. Michalski walk makes it 6-5. Pinch-hitting A. Smith single to right drives in the seventh. Cortland's T. Brien retires three of four Amherst in the home ninth. S. Lamando starts for CSt and works seven innings (5h). Amherst takes full advantage of Cortland errors (4) to score one in the first and four in the fourth. All five Jeffs' runs unearned. Corts with 11-5 hit edge. R. Streit on the mound and in control most of the way for Amherst. Dragons strand 10 through the first eight innings
Cortland, 38-4, plays Friday at 4:30 vs. RPI whose Engineers handle Old Westbury Thursday night. Amherst eliminated Friday morning by Keystone PA

Oswego ousted by Oberlin OH  7-2 this morning. Early defensive gaffes put Lakers behind the eight ball, down 3-1 after an inning. Freshman Yeomen pitcher S. Kiley (6-3) does the rest in complete game eight-hitter. Frosh R. Donnelly goes seven innings in defeat. Yields five runs, just two earned. Oswego with four errors. Obies error-free with 12 hits
OSt winds up 27-13. Oberlin 20-26 and plays on Friday afternoon

Red Dragons are the comeback kids of this regional. Glad I have a strong heart as they have had my ticker in overdrive throughout their 3 games. One more win and 2 chances to get it. Hope they do it later tonight.

Red Dragon Ladies Lacrosse team advanced as well this morning with a shellacking of Augustana (Ill.) 21-2.
