red04,
I was thinking the same thing yesterday about the guys who called the Cortland-IC game. They were brutal, almost had to turn it off, hardly any baseball knowledge or tid-bits to offer from either guy! Never knew how good we had it with john mcgraw! I may just drive to Cortland rather than listen to that non-sense!
In sports it's not how you start, its how you finish!

John McGraw

Thanks for the kind words guys.

Remember, I broadcast Cortland games for four years. So, by last year, I knew the team and the kids like the back of my hand.

The gentleman doing the games now is still learning the team. It's hard when you start broadcasting games for someone you don't really know. I'm not sure who is doing color.

Give them time, I'm sure they'll be fine by the end of the season.

Bob Maxwell

I have not heard the new guys... so I can't comment on how thee are... but will say that John was very good!  And as you can see from his last post, he is humble as well.

John, you were there for four years, but it takes more then just knowing the stories to be good at this.  You went out of your way to be educated on all the teams, and while you were the Cortland broadcaster... you did do a great job of keeping it on the professional level and giving both sides their just dues.

Wish you were back in New York as you are missed... and I am sure we will hear you on a larger scene in a few years.

Paul Heering

haven't been on this board in a while but just looked at the conference game scores.  basically i see that....

Brockport got swept by Oswego who got swept by Fredonia who got swept by Cortland who got swept by Brockport.

what is going on here.  who is taking charge in this league?

THE WEATHER!!!!!!!

cstate19

donny baseball my fav player. is it really you?

Bob Maxwell

At thi spoint...  one week into the conference season... Field of Dreams is absolutley correct.  At this point, the weather is in charge...

>:(

high of 28 here today.... brrrrrrrrrrr

Bob Maxwell

What a sad week for the SUNYAC... after the exciting start where EVERYONE had good and bad days, and it looks like a race all around.  The weather and no one plays for almost an entire week!

:-[

Hope the weatehr breaks and the rescheduled games can be played this week...

How did the one set of games go to 4/29?  I thought they had to be scheduled the earliest possible date.  Does any one have any information on the conference rescheduling guidelines?

John McGraw

You schedule a game whenver you have an open date on the schedule.

Cortland and Oswego, for example, are going to play their "Saturday" doubleheader today.

Both had an open date.

Other teams may have an open date, but a game tomorrow or a good number of games later in the week. So, they shoot for sometime later in the month when the weather will be much nicer and the probability of a cancellation is much smaller.

Say you reschedule for Tuesday, it snows, you have to re-schedule again. Why bother when you can push it back later?

That's how it goes every year. Someone is always scrapping at the end to get all their conference games in. If it didn't happen, I'd be surprised.

It also's snowing!!

John McGraw

Haha. Sounds like where I was this weekend. I was doing some PA work for Radford University softball. The press box, unlike Wallace Field, has no windows. The high on Saturday was in the 20s and we had sun and snow; it was in the lower 30s the day before for two games.

I guess the weather follows me where I go. But, it's 50 and sunny here in Virginia today.
