Cortland convincingly kayoes Brockport 15-2 at home in Friday opening nine-inning game of conference double-bill before Port's T. Kretzler dons his hero's mantle to lead 3-1 extra-inning win in the afterpiece.
First Game: Outcome snaps GEagles' Division 3 leading 16 game win streak. RDragons ride A. Fusco's six inning pitching (WP 5-1, 6h, 2r, rer, 1bb, 3k, 79p) and 3B D. Coleman eight ribbies on pair of three-run home runs and two-run double. Coleman with team-best eight HRs, 36 RBI. Corts with 17 hits. After leaving bases full in the first inning, Cortland puts three spot on Wallace Field scoreboard in the third on Coleman's initial blast to right off Port starter A. Huffman (5-1, 3.1inn, 7h, 8r, 8er, 1bb, 2k, hbp, 68p). Huffman yields his first earned runs of the season in 35 innings. Dragons followup with five-run fourth and 8-0 lead sparked by S. Giordano single to right for two scores. Coleman doubles for two more, and in the sixth inning unloads his second home run. Coleman 3x5, 2r, 8bi; A. Pragana 2x2, 3r, 2bb; Giordano 3x5, 2r, 2bi; J. Hennessy finishes (3inn, 1h, 2k). Eagles deploy six hurlers and commit game's only two errors.
Second Game: Kretzler pitches and bats GEagles to victory in scheduled seven-inning contest. His two-out bases loaded double in the eighth inning disappoints RDragons who had early chances turned back by Kretzler mound work (7inn, 4h, 1r, 1er, 3bb, 2k, 2hbp, 93p). Cortland puts runners in scoring position in each of the first five innings, and strand 10 in all. Meanwhile, pitching counterpart R. Flansburg (6.1inn, 3h, 1r, 1er, 69p) retires first 12 Eagles. Scoreless match into the seventh. R. Mansell in the top of the inning opens with double to right and moves to third on Kretzler flyout. R. Voight touches reliever B. Buchan second pitch for go-ahead double to left. Dragons send it to OT on A. Michalski leadoff single and S. Giordano clutch two-out rbi single. In the eighth, Buchan retires first two Eagles but walks next three. Kretzler greets another Cortland fireman with his clutch knock down the left-field line. M. Colucci records the pitching save -- strands two. Brockport with five hits, Corts six. Errorless affair. Giordano 2x3, bi, bb; Michalski 2x2,r for Dragons ...Voight 2x3, bi for Eagles.
