Sounds like it was a good game played by 2 good teams. It is not always bad to lose a game here or there as long as you learn from the loss and move on. The real goal is winning in the end. Keystone must have a pretty good team. Congrats to Keystone.

So, who is actually going to be playing this weekend?

cstate19

i don't see cortland being able to play in platsburgh this weekend

Bob Maxwell

Saturday doesn't look to bad... if the fields are not swamped before then, games may be played.  Of course, I am speaking from a March wether stand point... not April as it will only be in the mid to low 40's.

Sunday looks bad everywhere... COLD and wet... doubt if anyone will play then, unless a location is just missed by the storm.

Hopefully the Saturday games will be played...so everyone isn't way behind and will need to change non-league games.

i'll be surprised if any baseball is played this weekend, it is COLD and miserable. definately not baseball weather at all. got to be 1 of the worst springs in awhile!

You're correct cstate, Plattsburgh canceled the entire weekend and move the games to 4/26 & 4/28.

Brockport at New paltz on Sunday has been moved to Wednesday 4/18.

But Brockport at Oneonta will be played today... it will be in the mid 40's with 10 MPH winds.  HMMM...good weather for this spring!

It is really tough to be playing game after game after game in this cold, windy weather and on the wet fields.  Mentally draining on the players...

Hope it breaks soon....

Cortland's doubleheader Saturday at SUNYIT has been moved to Delutis Field #2 in Rome and will now start at 1 p.m. The Red Dragons' doubleheader Sunday at Plattsburgh has been postponed (tentative make-up date is April 26).

Surprise. While we wait out the weather, here's the SUNYAC standings.

Oneonta 3-1; Brockport 4-2; Cortland 4-2; New Paltz 2-2; Plattsburgh 2-2; Fredonia 2-4; Oswego 2-4; SUNYIT 1-3

Who'd have thought Oneonta would be in first place on a team that doesn't have Michael Schellinger and Chris Salamida?

Schellinger pitched for the Swing of the Quad Cities on Monday. He started and struck out six in three innings, but took the loss.

Salamida is pitching for the Salem Avalanche in the Carolina League, about 40 minutes from where I live. I'd drive up to see him, but that's too much effort.

Brockport 11 Oneonta 8
12 innings WP Casey Scott (3-0) LP Don Lawrence (3-1)

bportalum99

who were the starting pitchers in the bport oneonta gm?

John McGraw

Game 2 at Oneonta

Oneonta 3 Brockport 0
*Rob Maxwell allowed just three hits and takes the hard-luck loss; his defense made three errors and only one run was earned
*Tom Locke tossed a complete-game five hitter for O-State.

To answer an earlier question, Jake Dennstedt and Erik Weber started in game one. Both were equally lambasted.

John McGraw

Cortland 9 SUNYIT 0
Cortland 5 SUNYIT 2

Brockport 11 Oneonta 8
Oneonta 3 Brockport 0

New Paltz 8 Fredonia 3
Fredonia 9 New Paltz 4

Cortland 6-2; Oneonta 4-2; Brockport 5-3; New Paltz 3-3; Plattsburgh 2-2; Fredonia 3-5; Oswego 2-4; SUNYIT 1-5

Starting pitchers in game #1 were; Brockport - Dennstedt, Oneonta - Weber  both ended up with no decisions.

It really doesn't matter, as Brockport lost game #2... but I have a question as maybe I misunderstand something.  I don't see an earned run scored in the game... I know this will sound like sour grapes, as it was my son who was pitching...   I've been playing and involved in baseball for over 30 years, and can't figure out how one of the runs was earned.

first batter - on by a fielding error (should be out #1...)
second batter - on with a fielders choice, and the runner is safe at 2nd with a throwing error (should be out # 2...)
third batter - hits a double (scoring to unearned runs)
fourth batter - flys out to the outfield (should be out #3...)
fifth batter - flys out to the outfield (4th out?)
sixth batter - singles to right, to score the 3rd run.  since the innning should have been over, this too is an unearned run.

Did I miss something?  If any one can help me with this I would love to hear th explaination as to why one run is earned.  It doesn't matter, as the team lost the game... I am just curiuos as to how or why it was scored that way...

It looks like it is going to be a dog fight for the last playoff spot... maybe the last two.  But I think that three of them are pretty solid with Cortland, Oneonta and borckport.

Bob Maxwell

game #1 was actually a very well pitched game through 8 innings.  The ninth it blew up on both teams.   Brockport scored 6 runs after 2 outs in the top of the ninth... after 2 outs, Weber walked two batters and was taken out.  Patcick Connors came in for him and gave up a run scoring single... and on the first pitch to the next batter, something happened to his arm as he collapsed on the mound.

I have no idea what happened, and hope that it was just a pain and he is OK... but it looked like it could be more serious then that.  You hate to see anyone get hurt... especially with the violent pitching motion. If any one from Oneonta can give us an update when they know something it is appreciated.

After Connors left, Don Lawrence came in and was the one who was roughed up to finish the 9th and in the 12th too.

Dennstedt threw 8 very strong innings, and had some difficulty in the 9th... he have up three singles, all of them not hit hard, they just dropped in... but they count, don't they.  He walked one and hit a batter before being relived.

Brondon Galutz hit a 1-2 pitch out to tie the game off the reliever.  All but one run was charged to Dennstedt.  Casey Scott settled down and threw 3.2 innings of no-hit relief after the Galtuz HR.

It was a really interesting game.  12 innings total... 10 and 1/2 of them were very well pitched, the 9th just got out of control for both sides... and Brockport hit Lawrence hard in the 12th.

No wonder we keep coming back to play again... what a game, this baseball is!
