Cortland, Oneonta, Plattsburgh and Brockport. Will be the ones that will
be going at it!

Yesterday...
Brockport 15 New Paltz 2
New Paltz 10 Brockport 9

Long drive for just two games...  Weather and field were great though!

Cortland, Oneonta... winner of their games hosts.
Brockport
New Paltz or Plattsburgh (I think Plattsburgh has the tie breaker on New Paltz)

Bob,

It's not over just yet. The fat lady hasn't just sung. Cortland still needs to play Oneonta and New Paltz.

Traditionally, when Cortland's had a chance to close things out, they have. But don't count the Golden Eagles out.

Cortland-New Paltz will be broadcast on Sunday. One of two games is on the local radio and the other is on the Internet.

I remember my first Cortland-NP doubleheader, 25-1 and 16-1, or something along those lines. Party time.

my god oxybob, quite an exchange but an informative one to say the least!
good info to know, thanks for posting and kudos being able to admit your wrongness!
In sports it's not how you start, its how you finish!

I never would have thought there would be much of a market for a book on this mess. More power to him that he found a personal niche out of something a lot of people know.

Good to have confirmation of my solution. The one that gets me is when someone sacrifices after a guy gets on by error...I'm like 'well he wouldn't have sacrificed if not for the error' lol.

Both Cortland-New Paltz games on Sunday can be heard online. The first game (noon start) is being broadcast on WXHC, 101.5 FM (in the Cortland area) and can also be heard online at http://www.wxhc.com. The second game is internet only at http://www.cortland.edu/athletics/listen.asp

OxyBob,

Thanks for taking my question forward to "Andy" (Mr. Wirkmaa)... I only asked the question because I thought that all 3 runs should have been unearned.  I enjoyed the comments back and forth about it, but was not going to pursue it any further.  I really appreciate your taking it forward... and asking the expert!

Also, Don said it on the board and so did Andy... it is fun to talk about this type of thing.   I am just tickled that he got excited about the question we all discussed and think it is great that he complimented you for asking a great question!

Thanks to you on three levels for your posts and exchanges with Andy:
1) for knowing where to go on this... to get the answer.
2) for stating in your letter to Andy for calling all of who post on the board your friends!!!  That is a great compliment to all of us, and shows that you understand what this board is for.  to exchange thoughts, opinions and ideas and at the same time respecting the same of others! To quote you: "I have a question that's been bandied about between me and some of my friends".
3) for putting the information on the board to share with all of us, despite it not being in agreement with your original position.

It is a pleasure to exchange ideas with someone who is a true professional and obviously is secure with who they are.  We should all be as well versed in what we do as you obviosly are.

Thanks again, but even after the exchange, it won't change what is in the box score as we are just exchanging opinions here... nor the outcome of a great game!!!

Look forward to the balance of the season...  As John said, its not over yet.  John, I'm not tossing in  the towel and giving up yet.  The Eagles will need to be dealt with and are a real threat to win the SUNYAC... no matter where it is played!  Despite their three late inning fiasco's, they have the pitching to beat anyone, anywhere at any time!  It will be a fun end to the season...  with hotly contended  races for first and fourth place!

Elsewhere in the 'YAC

Brockport 4 SUNYIT 0 (as documented earlier)
Brockport 2 SUNYIT 0

New Paltz 5 Oswego 1
Oswego 6 New Paltz 0

Still waiting on Fredonia vs. Plattsburgh. Now, your up-to-the-minute SUNYAC standings

Cortland 8-2; Brockport 8-4; New Paltz 5-5; Oswego 5-5; Oneonta 4-4; Plattsburgh 2-2; Fredonia 3-5; SUNYIT 1-9

Oneonta's schedule gets somewhat easier the rest of the way now that they've played all three other playoff teams from last year. Plattsburgh's got a ways to go in the next few weeks.

{PS - Whoops, missed the Lakers}

Bob Maxwell

Insert Oswego with New Paltz at 5-5...

Plattsburgh at Fredonia must be in the 25th inning of one of the games...
;D

Bob Maxwell

second game went 10 innings... Plattsburgh 6 Fredonia 4

First game was Fredonia 22 Plattsburgh 5

No box scores up yet...

Standings heading into Sunday's games.

Cortland 8-2; Brockport 8-4; New Paltz 5-5; Oswego 5-5; Oneonta 4-4; Plattsburgh 3-3; Fredonia 4-6; SUNYIT 1-9

What's left after today?

Brockport N/A - no more conference games
Cortland @ Plattsburgh (4/26)
Oswego @ Plattsburgh (4/28)
Fredonia @ Oneonta (4/28)
New Paltz @ Oneonta (4/29)
Plattsburgh @ SUNYIT (4/29)

I can't remember a year that the last two spots in the conference tournament have been so hotly contested. The last couple years there's been a battle for the fourth spot into the final weekend. This year, there are four, potentially five teams that could end up in the third or fourth seed in the tournament. And I bet Cortland is happy that they will not have to play Brockport in the opening round - after the result the last two years.
