Brockport 9 Plattsburgh 6
Plattsburgh 10 Brockport 2 [8]...scheduled for seven

Updated SUNYAC standings, pending Fredoina-SUNYIT twin bill

Cortland 10-2; Brockport 9-5; Oswego 7-5; Plattsburgh 4-4; New Paltz 5-7;  Oneonta 4-6; Fredonia 4-6; SUNYIT 1-9

*Cortland can clinch the SUNYAC regular season title with a victory over Plattsburgh on Thursday. Plattsburgh is the only team, mathematically, that can catch Cortland. The worst Cortland can finish is 10-4; everyone but Plattsburgh has more than 5.

John,
Update New Paltz is 5-7; not 6-6.

Other then Cortland winning the title, and Brockport clinching a spot in the tournament (no lower then 3rd, as they hold the tie breaker on all the teams except Oswego) and SUNY IT is out... everything else is still up in the air.

I don' t think anyone else has clinched a spot in the tournament yet.

The next 7 days will be the most interesting in the SUNYAC.... as anything can happen.  SUNYIT has 4 games left and can still be a problem for the teams that play them.  They are improved from the last few yeats...

Brandon Galutz didn't play on Sunday... does anyone know or have any informaiton on him?  I hope he wasn't injured... never want to see that happen to anyone.

Just curious...

jdex

Bob,
Galutz was sick. Probably feeling considerably more ill following `double dip' to Lakers. Is a difference-maker. Brandon is a Cortlander and was high school teammate of CSt's Sean Caughey

Bob Maxwell

Thanks Jdex... glad to hear he wasn't injured.

Lets say Cortland wins the Sunyac's, who else from the suny has a shot at getting in the regional????? Say Brockport wins the Suny, does cortland have a pool C bid locked up?  Is the only way for Oneonta to get into the regional a sunyac championship? Alot to be determined. Whats everybodies thoughts?
In sports it's not how you start, its how you finish!

Bob Maxwell

Scuba,

Interesting question...

I think if Cortland doesn't win the SUNYAC they have a bid locked up... not sure what the difference is between Pool B & C are (just haven't taken the time to figure it out)... but either way they have a spot locked up.

I think that the only ohter team that will have a shot at getting a bid if they don't win the SUNYAC is Brockport.  But as it did last year, that may hinge on how many upsets there are in other tournaments around the northeast.  The best way for Brockport to be sure is to win the SUNYAC

ALL the other teams will have to win the SUNYAC to get a bid.

Oneonta is in 7th place......they gotta make the sunyac tourney before they can win it.  Cortland is pretty much in no matter what they do.

John McGraw

The only teams in the conference with a chance to go to the tournament if they don't win SUNYACs are Cortland and Brockport.

I think Brockport's on a little on the edge though. They can't afford any bad losses and they'll need to play Cortland in the SUNYAC title game. If they do that, then, with the enlarged Pool C field, anything can happen.

The Brockport vs. Ithaca doubleheader this weekend should clear things up a little more. A sweep either way is a big boost.

John McGraw

Cortland wins the SUNYAC regular season title.

Cortland 13 Plattsburgh 6
Plattsburgh 8 Cortland 7 (9)...Cortland used a pitcher-by-committee. Dougher went five innings and held the Cardinals scoreless. Cards score the winning run on a squeeze play with a bunt single.

It's Plattsburgh's first victory over Cortland in their modern era and first win over Cortland since 1976 (before I was born).

Cortland 11-3; Brockport 9-5; Oswego 7-5; Fredonia 6-6; Plattsburgh 5-5; New Paltz 5-7; Oneonta 4-6; SUNYIT 1-11

Bob Maxwell

BIG games for four teams Saturday... Oswego at Plattsburgh & Fredonia at Oneonta.    AND depending on what happens Saturday... more big games on Sunday with New Paltz at Oneonta and Plattsburgh at SUNYIT.

Great Conference Season!!!  the race lasts until the final day...  Congrats to all the coaches and players!

Hope the tournament is the same!!!
