Everyone get out your conference rule books...

What are the tie breakers for a 3 or 4 way tie?  It is possible that there is a 3 or 4 way tie for 3rd place or 4th place... and possibly a three way for second too If Oneonta wins out and Oswego sweeps Saturday.

Just wondering if anyone knows the criteria.

It is my understanding that a 2 way tie is broken by head to head games, and if they are a split, then who won the 9 inning game wins the tie.

Is that correct?

Again, very interesting conference season...

Bob Maxwell

OOPs... got confused (again!)  :D

There can't be a 3 way tie for second... just two possibilities for a 2 way tie.

Sorry about that....
::)

TIE BREAKERS:

I didn't hear anything to the contrary, so I put this together based on the pemise that a 2 way tie is broken by;
1) sweep of two games between the teams
2) winner of the 9 inning game in a split

Based on that, here are the tie-breakers for any 2-way ties:
I am only listing the ties that could actually happen:

Brockport - over Plattsburgh (won game #1)
Oswego - over Brockport & Oneonta (swept both teams)
Fredonia - over Oswego (sweep) and Plattsburgh (won game #1)
Plattsburgh - over New Paltz (won game #1)
Oneonta - over Plattsburgh (won game #1)
New Paltz - over Fredonia (won game #1)

Undetermined as these games still need to be played:
Played today:
Oswego at Plattsburgh
Fredonia at Oneonta

Exciting finish to the season... and the host site was just clinched on Thursday.  This has been a really exciting season!

That is GREAT for the conference oveall... competition brings on growth.  I wonder what the SUNYAC record is against the other NY state conferences?

To be played tomorrow;
Oneonta at New Paltz

If tiebreakers anything like hoops, it's head-to-head series, then we believe it's how a team did against No. 1, then No. 2, etc. That obviously gives edge to Bports for placement purposes since Eagles swept CSt. If Bport No. 2, the 3-4 seeding would come from how those teams fared vs. Bport (since no one else stopped CSt). Run differential in series is another lower criteria, we thinketh

Damn, the mohawk valley boys tearing it up at cortland, maycock(utica proctor), vitalone(rome free), robinson(ilion), jweid(new hartford), coromato(utica notre dame). Good to see the local guys playing well and more importantly winning.
Other note, peters from ithaca is from utica proctor and raux (IC) is from ilion as well.
Coming down to the end, it will be interesting to see who won the sunyac games today, particularly Oswego @ Plattsburgh, Fredonia @ Oneonta!
The field is wide open for 3rd and 4th place!

Sure, Plattsburgh beat Cortland. While its a boost to Plattsburgh's morale, I doubt the loss worried Cortland. The Dragons had already clinched the conference title and were using a pitcher-by-committee, using some kids that normally don't get a lot of work. If Jimmy Dougher pitches the whole game, Cortland more than likely wins.

Plattsburgh's sweep today means that they just need to beat lowly SUNYIT tomorrow to set a tournament trip to Cortland. Should that happen, they'll meet old friend Brockport in the opening round.

Bob Maxwell

John,

Thanks for taking the time and effort to put together the records vs other NY conferences... interesting.

Two tough losses for Brockport today.  Both teams pitched well enought to win, but Ithaca made several very good defensive plays to prevent runs from scoring and came out on top twice.  Brockports bats just couldn't string any hits... as they hit 10 line drives at fielders... and at least 3 times Ithaca infielders dove, knocked a ball down and got an out to end an inning or scoring threat.

Frustrating from a Brockport fans perspective, but two very good games from a pure baseball perspective.  It could turn out differently tomorrow... looked like two pretty well matched teams.

Cudos to Ithaca for the wins...

Bob Maxwell

Despite all the excitement about a lot of teams having a shot at the tournament... If Plattsburgh sweeps IT, and Oneonta sweeps New Paltz... its the same four as in the last two years.

If New Paltz takes a game from Oneonta, Oswego is in... based on their sweep over Oneonta.

Still is a great thing that so many had a chance...

Let's see what happens tomorrow.
:)
